QUEENSLAND RACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT NOORAMA PICNIC RACE CLUB INC. - SATURDAY 8 APRIL 2017 WEATHER - FINE TRACK: DIRT TRACK RATING- GOOD RAIL - TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – T. PrestonStewards – B. CookeBetting Steward – StewardsClerk of Scales – ClubJudges – ClubVeterinarian – Dr.W.BarkerStarter – Rodney JonesPhoto Finish Operator- Club General On arrival at the course at approximately 10.45 am Stewards performed an inspection of the track. During the inspection Stewards observed an area of the track surface from the 1200m to roughly 50m past the winning post had a large number of holes and cracks, varying in size from 50mm to 400 mm with a depth of over 200mm. Stewards were of the opinion that these holes made the surface unsafe for racing due to the risk of horses stumbling and falling, causing injuries to horses and/or riders. Stewards expressed their concerns to the Club officials and requested they perform work to the track in an effort to remedy the matter, with a further track inspection to occur at 12.30pm. At 12.30pm Stewards and all six (6) riders at today’s meeting performed an inspection of the entire track. Subsequently a number of riders refused to ride at the meeting as they felt the track was still unsafe for racing. After speaking with Club officials, Stewards agreed to allow them further time to attempt to improve the track surface, with another inspection to take place at 2pm. At 2pm, Stewards and riders undertook a further inspection of the track, and were of the opinion that, despite the remedial work undertaken, the surface was still unsafe for racing. Consequently, the meeting was abandoned at 2.15pm. Stewards advised Club officials they would be furnishing a report to the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission and Racing Queensland regarding the state of today’s track, and minimum standards required prior to any future race meetings.
