QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT QUILPIE DIGGERS RACE CLUB QUILPIE – SATURDAY, 13 MAY 2023 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – DIRT RAIL – TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – E. Brassington General As no riders were available, the following horses were declared late scratchings at 11:40am:Race 2, No. 1 – ZUMA Race 2, No. 2 – LENROY Race 5, No. 1 – GALAPAGOS Race 5, No. 3 – PARKO Race 1: QUILPIE COMBINED AGENTS CLASS B HANDICAP (1100M) KALMIA – Began awkwardly and subsequently lost ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. DOMMANTELLA – Began awkwardly. LUNA GUIDE – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Hung-out rounding the home turn. Race 2: HASTINGS DEERING BENCHMARK 45 HANDICAP (1350M) ZUMA – Was declared a late scratching when no rider was available at 11:40am. LENROY - Was declared a late scratching when no rider was available at 11:40am. CULTURUAL ICON – Slow into stride. LASCO – Raced keenly in the early stages. Momentarily held up approaching the 200m when FORGED IN STONE rolled out and was obliged to be shifted back to inside of that runner’s heels to obtain clear running. PRIZED ARTIST – Began awkwardly. Obliged to be steadied and not fully tested over the concluding stages when awkwardly placed on the heels of FORGED IN STONE. L. Sykes, rider of FORGED IN STONE was advised to exercise more care and correct his mounts sooner when they commence to shift ground. FORGED IN STONE – Inside the 100m commenced to lay out. FUNKY FARM – Taken wider rounding the home turn. Race 3: CHANNEL COUNTRY REFIGERATION/MEADS FOODWORKS QTIS MAIDEN PLATE (1200M) Declaration of correct weight was delayed allowing connections of both 1st and 2nd placegetters BLINDSIDE and PURPLE SONG to view the photo finish. After viewing the official photo, both Jockeys T. Brummell and R. Faehr were satisfied a margin was present and Stewards declared correct weight on the Judges’ semaphored numbers. JULIMAR – Began only fairly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. LORD LOBSTER – Laid in under pressure in the early part of the straight. Inside the 200m when commencing to weaken, put in an awkward stride and momentarily became unbalanced. RUNINSCARED – Began only fairly. Performed below expectations. When questioned, Rider B. Newport reported after settling further back in the field than anticipated, the mare resented the kick-back and subsequently failed to travel at any stage. He further added, that in his opinion, the mare which was first-up from a spell would derive a fitness benefit from the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. SPIRITUAL BELIEF – Was given permission to race without the tongue-tie when it was unable to be fitted. Momentarily inconvenienced approaching the 100m when PURPLE SONG laid out. PURPLE SONG – Approaching the 100m commenced to lay out before being corrected by its rider. Race 4: QUILPIE SHIRE COUNCIL / BRANDON ASSOCIATES RATINGS BAND 0-60 HANDICAP (1200M) Prior to correct weight being declared, Judges made Stewards aware that the photo finish system had experienced technical difficulties during the event. After reviewing appropriate films, Stewards were satisfied with the numbers semaphored and correct weight was declared. GAZMAN – Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight. HEROISM – Contacted the running rail heavily on several occasions down the back straight when the gelding laid in. Jockey T. Brummell was examined by Ambulance Officers following the event and deemed fit to fulfil his remaining rides. BIGGER THAN THORN – Began only fairly. Inside the 200m, commenced to lay out under pressure. FIRST FAMILY – Slow to begin. Race 5: ELITE FENCING BY JAMES QUILPIE NEWMARKET / 2023 BATTLE OF THE BUSH QUALIFIER OPEN PLATE (1200M) GALAPAGOS – Was declared a late scratching when no rider was available at 11:40am. NICK THE SKIP – Raced wide and without cover early stages. Rounding the home turn shifted out to obtain clear running, forcing SMOOTH MOVE to be momentarily inconvenienced when crowded and obliged to be steadied. Apprentice T. Leslight was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding. PARKO - Was declared a late scratching when no rider was available at 11:40am. SMOOTH MOVE – Raced keenly in the early stages. Approaching the 600m was tightened when PASS THE CARD shifted in. Apprentice L. Sykes was advised to exercise more care. Held up rounding the home turn. Inside the 300m, obliged to be steadied when inconvenienced by NICK THE SKIP which shifted out. ZUKAZ – Raced wide and without cover early stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. VINIGRIATTE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Race 6: FRIENDLY GROCER / CLASS OF 74 / MICK PAULSEN MEMORIAL QUILPIE CUP BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP (1586M) FREDDIE EDDIE – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. STAMPEDE WARRIOR – Blundered badly on jumping, becoming unbalanced for several strides. Raced wide and without cover in the early stages before obtaining a position with cover at the rear of the field.
