QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT QUILPIE DIGGERS’ RACE CLUB QUILPIE – SATURDAY, 11TH MAY 2024 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – DIRT RAIL – TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – E. Tickner Stewards – T. Preston SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT Trainer L. Baker was fined $100 under AR104 for failing to maintain treatment records following a stable inspection conducted at his licensed stable location at Charleville on Friday, 10 May 2024. In assessing penalty, Stewards noted Mr Baker’s record in relation to the rule. Trainer L. Baker was advised of his rights to an appeal. GENERAL When no suitable riders were available, Stewards permitted the following runners to be declared late scratching’s at 11am:Race 3, No. 1 LEGISLATERace 3, No. 7 CLUB ROLLERRace 4, No. 1 PARKO Race 1: THE BRICK QUILPIE & NEWSTATE BUILDERS BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP (1200m) KAZZA’S JET – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. When questioned regarding the performance, Jockey B. Richardson stated the mare was not suited by the track conditions, and the heavy weight impost allocated. Trainer L. Baker concurred with the views of Jockey Richardson. TOURMASTER – Held-up for clear running rounding the home-turn before being shifted wider leaving the 300m. IN PEACE – Raced wide and cover throughout the early stages. Commenced to hang out severely approaching the 600m before proving difficult to ride out in the home straight. A post- race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer J. Hatch was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s record for its racing manners. VIRGO VISION – Blundered on jumping and lost ground. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Jockey M. Gray stated in his opinion, the gelding failed to travel comfortably throughout the event. ZEITAKUNA – Slow to begin. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. BEST SIDE – Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages when awkwardly placed to the outside of TOURMASTER’S heels. Race 2: THE QUILPIE SHIRE QTIS MAIDEN PLATE (1100m) GUTHO – Stewards accepted the explanation for the late declaration of Apprentice M. Campbell as the rider of the gelding. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice M. Campbell was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(b) in that she did fail to ride her mount out to the finish of the event. In considering the matter, Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that Apprentice Campbell’s lack of vigour over the final stages definitively prejudiced the gelding’s chances of finishing third, as well as considering that GUTHO was inclined to lay in over the concluding stages, becoming marginally awkwardly placed on the heels of MR MEDIA. Nonetheless, Stewards were of the view that Apprentice Campbell’s vigour was below what was expected when considering the matter. HIMSELF – Began very awkwardly and lost ground, before proving difficult to ride-out in the back straight. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Laid out rounding the home-turn before laying in under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer L. Baker was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s record for its racing manners. JULIMAR – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Jockey M. Gray advised in his opinion, the gelding had reached the end of its preparation. MR MEDIA – Laid out for some distance passing the 900m. Rudd stated the gelding had derived significant fitness benefit from its previous starts, noting the gelding had previously had an extended spell prior to this preparation. Stewards noted the explanation. EDWARDS – Began awkwardly. Race 3: SANTOS & ELDERS CLASS B HANDICAP (1100m) REBEL REBELLION – Began awkwardly. When questioned regarding the gelding leading in the event, Jockey J. Rudd stated after the gelding began well, he elected to take advantaged of the good start and permit his mount to obtain a leading position on a track that was proving advantageous to settle on-pace. Stewards noted the explanation. SEMPER INVICTUS – Slow to begin. ROCKMYDOLLER – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination having not started for an extended period and passed fit to start. Raced wide and without cover until the 600m. Laid-out rounding the home-turn. SEEBURG – Late scratching at 2:25pm on Stewards’ orders when refusing to load. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on SEEBURG prior to 2:25pm be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply: 1st place – 35c Win, 30c Place 2nd place – 30c Place Trainer M. Race 4: G & K LAWSON CONSTRUCTION QUILPIE NEWMARKET OPEN HANDICAP (1100m) Correct weight was delayed allowing Stewards to view footage of the start in relation to both HIGH COST and JAKAMA. Once satisfied that no external factors had any tangible effects on both runners, correct weight was declared on the Judges’ semaphored numbers. HIGH COST – Blundered badly on jumping, resulting in Jockey P. Randall becoming badly unbalanced and being dislodged a short distance later. Jockey Randall was immediately examined by QAS officers including the Racing Queensland Concussion Policy and transported to hospital with a concussion and suspected shoulder injury. Jockey P. A post-race veterinary examination of HIGH COST revealed no abnormalities. HIDDEN EYES – Began awkwardly. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Jockey B. Richardson pleaded guilty to a charge under AR211(1), in that she did return to scale in excess of 1kg over the gelding’s allotted weight and was fined $200. In assessing penalty, Stewards noted that Jockey Richardson had won the race, that she could offer no tangible explanation for the incident, and were further of the opinion it was not a nefarious incident given a lead-bag had been fitted as part of Jockey Richardson’s gear. Jockey Richardson was advised of her rights to an appeal. JAKAMA – Slow to begin before being hampered by the riderless HIGH COST shortly afterwards and obliged to steady. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer W. Pugsley stated in his opinion, the gelding was not suited by the firm track conditions. LOST MINDFUL – Became awkwardly placed on the heels of the riderless HIGH COST over the concluding stages which shifted in abruptly. KEENZAP – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Higgins subsequently advised that the gelding was undergoing ongoing veterinary treatment. He was further advised the gelding would require a full veterinary clearance prior to racing again. RUPELTIER – Raced tight with ANANAGRAM (NZ) near the 500m, resulting in that runner making contact with the running rail. Apprentice T. THE GENERAL (NZ) – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the concluding stages, marginally contacting BALLYCASTLE. HALLSIDE HOT STUFF – Stewards accepted the explanation for the late declaration of Apprentice M. Campbell as the rider of the gelding. Began awkwardly. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Gave ground from the 600m. Apprentice M. Campbell stated in her opinion, the gelding felt uncomfortable in its action and therefore she elected to not place her mount under pressure in the home straight.
