SCRATCHINGS – RACE 5 – SIR ROCKET, REDWOOD SHADOW, VALLEY OF DREAMS.
The following runners were scratched by order of Stewards at 11:30am as no riders available.
Race 2:  Adashan, Marrew Fancy Nancy, Wagonga, Mishani Opal, Jungledeli.
Race 3:  Golden Eighty, Better Class, Lasting Promise, Hypothesize
 
GENERAL – Due toforecast elevated temperatures, the meeting was conducted under the “Additional Animal Welfare Measures Policy (1B)”.Two Veterinary Surgeons attended the meeting and all horses competing were checked pre- and post-race.No issues to report.
Trainer John Manzelmann was questioned regarding the scratching’s of three of his runners from Race 5 the Open Handicap - (Sir Rocket, Redwood Shadow, and Valley of Dreams).
Mr Manzelmann advised that Redwood Shadow had been dually accepted at today’s meeting and Innisfail (25 October 2024) and that he elected to race the gelding at Innisfail yesterday. He also advised that he had transport issues currently which reduced his floating capacity and as such Valley of Dreams was unable to be transported. In relation to Sir Rocket, he advised that this gelding, and Gossip Torque (Race 1) which he had scratched immediately post acceptances, were both suffering a viral complaint. His explanation was accepted.
Stewards also questioned Trainer S Royes in  relation to the late notification of jockey J Hoopert (Wanna Tweet) in Race 2. Ms Royes advised that she was experiencing telecommunication difficulties in her area at rider declaration time and notified her rider at the earliest opportunity. Her explanation was accepted.
Race 1 - 1:30PM McCardle Concreters BM65 Handicap (1000 METRES).
TOW THE LINE – Slow into stride.
RUBY SPARKLES – Returned to scale making a respiratory noise. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be suffering left laryngeal hemiplasia (roarer) . Ruby Sparkles was stood down from racing pending a veterinary clearance. Trainer T Parry was advised that it was her intention to send the mare for a spell.
Race 2 - 2:15PM Basalt Grazing QTIS Maiden Plate (1200 METRES).
MISHANI TYCOON – Fractious in the barriers and slow to begin.
PANDA DRUM – Made the home turn wide.
SPOT ON SOPHIA – Hung out making the home turn.
TOHUKU – Jockey A Thomson was questioned regarding the disappointing performance of TOHUKU. Ms Thomson stated that Trainer J Manzelmann had instructed her to ride the mare wider on the track as TOHUKU did not appreciate being crowded in running and as such she rode the mare accordingly. Jockey A Thomson further stated that TOHUKU travelled fairly to the home turn and then failed to run on thereafter.
Race 3 - 3:05PM AJM Pastoral BM45 Handicap (1200 METRES).
SUNYANI – Blundered a few strides after the start.
TORNADO TORQUE – Raced four wide throughout. Jockey A Thomson was questioned regarding her lack of vigour on the mare in the home straight. Ms Thomson advised that TORNADO TORQUE had been difficult to ride throughout and had hung in for much of the race in particular down the home straight. She stated that she had positioned the whip in the left hand and was unable to change it over to her right hand due to the racing manners of TORNADO TORQUE hanging in over the concluding stages and as such she was unable to straighten her mount fully. Whilst Stewards accepted that TORNADO TORQUE had been hanging in throughout the race nonetheless Ms Thomson was advised that she was to show more vigour in similar circumstances and to ride her mount out fully hands and heels. She was further advised of her obligations under AR131 (b) – A rider must not, in the opinion of the Stewards: (b) fail to ride his or her horse out to the end of the race and/or approaching the end of the race;
MISS BOUCHARD -  Raced wide after failing to muster pace from an inside draw.  

Race 4 - 3:50PM Veemont Holdings Class B Handicap (1400 METRES).
DANGEREUSE – Raced wide throughout.
MR SQUIGGLE’S MATE – Jumped out at the start and had to be straightened by its rider. Raced wide.
QUEENBEEL – Slow to begin and then the rider elected to race wide to avoid kickback.
BITTERBLUE – Slow to begin. Raced wide.
MOGGIE – Slow into stride.
 
Race 5 - 4:35PM J's Sands OPEN Handicap (1400 METRES)
THE DRILLER – Slow to begin and failed to maintain contact with the field in the preliminary stages.
MISTER LARRABEE – Slow into stride.
