STEWARDS REPORT - THURSDAY, 28 SEPTEMBER 2000

STEWARDS: D Hensler (Chairman), D Aurisch, G Meek, D Macklyn, S Walsh, J Westcott (Betting), N Vagg (Cadet).
WEATHER: Fine. TRACK: Good - upgraded to fast after race 2.

GENERAL:
The Club Ambulance Official stood down Nathan Evans, due to dehydration after his engagement in Race 4. The following replacements were approved: -
Race 5 Al Sharlee - Dale Evans
Race 7 Murgatroyd - Jason Babarovich
Race 8 Bay Poet - Michael Stephens

RACING
RACE 1 CLASS 6 HCP. 1000 METRES (4 STARTERS)
FLYING DEAL jumped away awkwardly and threw its head in the air at the start.
Rounding the hometurn BLUE MARLOO was momentarily held up for clear running behind TURKUL.

RACE 2 3YO MAIDEN HCP. 1000 METRES (11 STARTERS)
LUSTY TYCOON was slow to begin.
ON HIS OWN jumped outwards at the start and crowded CHERYL'S PRINCESS onto LONE WARRIOR.
GLORY ROAD and COLONEL TED came together at the start.
KEN REIGN commenced to race ungenerously in the early stages.
LONE WARRIOR raced greenly throughout the event.
CHERYL'S PRINCESS commenced to race ungenerously when placed under pressure inside the 300 metres.
In what appeared to be due to a malfunction, the photo finish computer timer for this race indicated a record of 56.3 seconds. After hand timing the race off the lateral video the judge after consultation with the stewards amended the time to read 58.3 seconds (hand timed).

RACE 3 CLASS 1 HCP. 1000 METRES (11 STARTERS)
MAGIC LANCER blundered at the start.
HULA HAVEN and GO ROCKY came together as the gates opened.
Apprentice N Evans the rider of HULA HAVEN was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that initially leaving the 700 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear forcing BRACE SLOT (D Whitmore) onto IN THE KICK (D Lloyd) which in turn resulted in INEVITIABLE (M Lehmann) having to be checked by its rider. HULA HAVEN continued to shift in when not clear further resulting in BRACE SLOT being taken in onto IN THE KICK which had to be severely checked by its rider inside the 630 metres. N Evans licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 4 CRA meetings to commence after the 30th September 2000 and to expire after 21st October 2000.
Following this event trainer K Mylne reported that BRACE SLOT had returned to the enclosure with lacerations to both hind legs.

RACE 4 CLASS 3 HCP. 1800 METRES (8 STARTERS)
KINDRED SOULS jumped in at the start and crowded SPRING FOUNTAIN.
Leaving the 1700 metres RUNAWAY SPLINTER and BENELITE came together.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion RUNAWAY SPLINTER commenced to race fiercely when being restrained.
SPRING FOUNTAIN raced wide around the first turn.
Passing the 700 metres WARRANULLA (G Booth) shifted in and momentarily hampered SPRING FOUNTAIN.

RACE 5 MAIDEN HCP. 1200 METRES (9 STARTERS)
BULLRING BABE jumped away awkwardly.
Approaching the 1000 metres TARJAY (J Babarovich) commenced to over-race when being restrained off the heels of AL SHARLEE (D Evans). A short distance later SEMBABA (M Barnham) shifted in and momentarily crowded BULLRING BABE (A Williams) onto CAVALLO VAPORE (D Johnston). CAVALLO VAPORE which was racing greenly shifted in and away after this crowding and as a result KELLINA'S ICON (D Simmons) was hampered. M Barnham was reprimanded and advised to be fully clear when shifting ground in future.
Approaching the 250 metres SEMBABA shifted out to obtain clear running and as a result crowded TAHJAY onto LAIRY AZ (M Stephens). M Barnham was again advised to exercise care when shifting ground in future.
A post race veterinary examination revealed BULLRING BABE to have sustained lacerations to both offside legs, which required veterinary treatment.

RACE 6 CLASS 2 HCP. 1200 METRES (7 STARTERS)
TILBA ROSE & MISS LAUREN jumped away awkwardly.

RACE 7 CLASS 4 HCP. 1100 METRES (9 STARTERS)
SEATTLE TOWN, which dislodged its rider prior to the start, was examined by the club veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
BUGDEN'S FANTASY jumped out at the start and tightened WISE BY NATURE onto DANCE LORD, which had jumped away awkwardly. Apprentice D Bird, the rider of PALACE GRANT pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that approaching the 800 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear taking MURGATROYD (J Babarovich) in onto BUGDEN'S FANTASY (J Piper) which resulted in ROY'S FOLLY (M Unwin) having to be checked by its rider. WISE BY NATURE (D Evans) which was following was also hampered as a result of this interference. D Bird's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 2 CRA meetings to commence after the 30th September 2000 and to expire after 7th October 2000. In arriving at this penalty Stewards took into account D Bird's good race riding record.
WISE BY NATURE was unable to obtain clear running in the straight until inside the 200 metres.

RACE 8 OPEN HCP. 1100 METRES (11 STARTERS)
FOR YALLAH'S SAKE was slow to begin.
LOKIE'S COURAGE was held up for clear running from the 350 metres until inside the final 50 metres.

BOOKMAKERS: Two (2) bookmakers fielded at the race meeting.

SWABBING: All winners were sent to be swabbed and the samples obtained were forwarded to the Racing Science Centre for routing analysis.
