STEWARDS REPORT – TUESDAY 5TH DECEMBER, 2000

WEATHER: FINE TRACK: GOOD
GENERAL
W. Tomsett contacted stewards prior to the commencement of the meeting and stated that he was unable to fulfil his commitments due to illness. Stewards advised Wayne Tomsett that a doctors certificate stating his illness would be required. Furthermore he would be required to furnish the stewards with a medical clearance prior to resuming riding.
The following rider changes were approved:

Race 5 PEGUNNY JET J. Piper
Race 6 EUROPA STAR D. Lloyd
Race 7 ROYAL TURNON D. Whitmore
RACING:
RACE 1 2YO MAIDEN HCP. 1000 METRES - (8 STARTERS) Shortly after the start MISTER PO knuckled.
Approaching the 800 metres LINE MY POCKET (L. Timson) was placed in restricted running momentarily as a result of WESTERN PLEASURE (N. Evans) laying in.
In the straight WESTERN PLEASURE was inclined to lay in.
RACE 2 MAIDEN HCP. 1000 METRES - (10 STARTERS) At the start SCARUM HARUM (M. Unwin) jumped awkwardly and was further hampered by ALL JAKE (M Atkinson) which jumped outwards which forced SCARUM HARUM out onto CENTRAL SISTER (D. Simmons) which was further crowded by MORSTON ARCH (NZ) (S. Quick) which jumped inwards.
Approaching the 500 metres COLONEL TED (S. Shield) was restrained off the heels of SARANEE (J. Piper) which resulted in MORSTON ARCH (NZ) being placed in restricted room. Subsequently MORSTON ARCH (NZ) raced awkwardly and shifted in slightly crowding SCARUM HARUM which resulted in MIDNIGHT JASS (G. Colless) racing to the inside being hampered.
Subsequent to the event SCARUM HARUM was inspected by the veterinary surgeon revealing that the gelding had sustained grazing over both eyes.
RACE 3 CLASS 6 HCP. 1000 METRES - (11 STARTERS) The start was delayed for a short period due to EL CARGO (G. Evans) breaking through the barrier stalls and completing a lap of the course. Subsequently EL CARGO was withdrawn by stewards at 1.40pm. Stewards advised that deductions of 7c a win and 8c a place off the face value of all winning tickets should be applied with all monies invested on EL CARGO to be refunded.
Prior to the gates opening RYDER (W. Welburn) threw its head down.
CHARIOT’S RHYTHM (S.Quick) dwelt at the start.
OUR PROFITEER (J. Piper) jumped awkwardly.
David Lloyd the rider of GANCIA SOVEREIGN was obliged to alter course to obtain clear running.
G. Colless rider of SUMO reported that his mount failed to stretch out down the running.
A veterinary inspection of SUMO revealed a slight laceration to the geldings head.
RACE 4 CLASS 4 HCP 1400 METRES - (10 STARTERS) Approaching the 1100 metre JAAZEIRO (C Eaton) had to be steadied when crowded by LOADED GUN (N. Evans) which was hampered by NO SLOUCH (D. Evans) which shifted in when not clear. D. Evans rider of NO SLOUCH was issued with a reprimand for permitting his mount to shift ground when not clear. He was further advised to exercise care when placed in similar situations. Shortly after this LOADED GUN (N. Evans) was checked when crowded by ROWLEY (D. Crossland) which received pressure from MIGHTY SPLENDENT (D. Griffin) who in turn was being crowded by REGENT GOLD (M. Allen) which was inclined to lay in.
Upon return to scale it was reported that ROWLEY sustained a laceration to its hind leg.
RACE 5 SUPER QRIS CLASS 3 HCP. 1100 METRES - (12 STARTERS) At the start HUZZA (M. Unwin) knuckled over.
HULA SHARP (W. Welburn) was slow to begin.
Approaching the 750 metres HUZZA raced fiercely and made the first turn awkwardly.
Approaching the 500 metres SATELLITE GIRL (P. Moodie) was slightly hampered as a result of JUST SENSATIONAL (D. Craven) shifting in slightly.
K. Smyth trainer of SATELLITE GIRL was fined the sum of $50 for failing to notify by the prescribed time.
RACE 6 CLASS 3 HCP 1200 METRES - (12 STARTERS) SING TO THEE (D. Whitmore) jumped awkwardly.
At the start KORUPSII (G. Evans) reared.
D. Lloyd rider of EUROPA STAR lost his whip at the 50 metres.
RACE 7 CLASS 1 HCP 1300 METRES – (13 STARTERS): The start was delayed due to YEATS’ MATE breaking through the barriers and concluding a circuit of the course. Subsequently stewards ordered the withdrawal of YEATS’ MATE at 4.06pm and advised that all monies invested on that horse should be refunded with deductions of 3c a win and 4c a place on the face value of all winning tickets.
Mr. G. Pierce trainer of PLENTIFUL GOLD was fined the sum of $25 for failing to bring his runner into the mounting yard without the required gear.
RACE 8 OPEN HCP 1300 METRES – (11 STARTERS): Over the concluding stages MEGA JET (J. Piper) shifted out under pressure making contact with BILBO (G. Colless).
BOOKMAKERS: 4 Bookmakers fielded at the race meeting.
SWABBING: All winners sent to be swabbed and the samples collected were forwarded to the Racing Science Centre for routine analysis.
