ROCKHAMPTON JOCKEY CLUB INC
STEWARDS REPORT – Tuesday, 6 May 2003

STEWARDS PANEL: P Cooper (Chairman), G Hargraves, N Fox, N Vagg, C Harris (Cadet)

WEATHER – Fine TRACK – Good
RAIL – Short Course – out 5m from 800-400 metres and 4m elsewhere. Long Course – out 4m from 700m to the winning post.

RACE 1: CLASS 3 H’CAP -1500 METRES (6 STARTERS)
As Jockey R Mules failed to arrive on course by the prescribed time Stewards permitted Jockey M Bennett to be the replacement rider for NORTHERN WATCH.
ORIANA LASS (M Unwin) jumped away awkwardly as the gates opened and raced ungenerously in the early stages of the event.

RACE 2: MAIDEN H'CAP – 1400 METRES (10 STARTERS)
As Jockey R Mules was not on course, Stewards permitted Jockey D Jones to be the replacement rider for MILES ON.
Jockey R Mules pleaded guilty to a charge under LR51(1) and was subsequently fined the sum of $100 for failing to fulfil his riding engagements in both races 1 and 2.
Jockey M Unwin, the rider of SELECTIVE CIN was admonished for allowing his mount to shift inwards at the 1100 metre mark which caused SIR HUNDRED PIPERS (App H Watanabe) to be tightened inwards which then further resulted in CINNAMON FLOSS (M Bennett) being hampered. Both BELLA BANDITO (G Booth) and LUDLOW LAD (A Lane) who were travelling behind this incident were inconvenienced.
Jockey G Evans reported that his mount KING OF COS raced ungenerously at the 1100 metre mark.
SIR HUNDRED PIPERS (App H Watanabe) laid inwards for the entire journey of the straight.

RACE 3: SPECIAL CONDITIONS H'CAP - 1800 METRES (6 STARTERS)
TRUE ENOUGH (M Bennett) raced wide on the track at the 1300 metre turn.

RACE 4: 2YO MAIDEN H'CAP – 1000 METRES (11 STARTERS)
As the start was effected BELLE D’ACCENT (T Kruger) jumped outwards and made contact with MISS KANOOT (App H Watanabe) who in turn made contact with DIGITAL PULSE (App T Mathieson). At the same time as this NADAMME (A Lane) jumped inwards and made contact with DIGITAL PULSE (T Mathieson).
HENDO (App L Timson) jumped away awkwardly as the start was effected.

RACE 5: CLASS 5 H'CAP – 1200 METRES (6 STARTERS)
Jockey J Cairns was indisposed, Stewards permitted that A Lane be the replacement rider for JUST ON DUSK.
Upon returning to scale Jockey M Unwin, the rider of the third place-getter RITUAL PRINCE lodged a protest against the second-placed getter JUST ON DUSK (A Lane) for alleged interference over the concluding stages of the event. After taking evidence Stewards dismissed the protest and declared correct weight on the judges placings.
At a subsequent inquiry Apprentice M Rice was found guilty to a charge of careless riding in that over the concluding stages of the event he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of JUST ON DUSK (A Lane) resulting in that horse being dictated outwards onto RITUAL PRINCE (M Unwin) which resulted in both horses being taken wider on the track. App Rice’s licence to ride in races was suspended from midnight 10/5/2003 up to and including 17/5/2003 being a period covered by 2 CRA race meetings.

RACE 6: CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1200 METRES (12 STARTERS)
SLASHED (D Whitmore) was slow into stride as the start was effected. LOKIE’S WARRIOR (M Unwin) was laying on the inside of the barrier stalls when the start was effected.
BOURBONNAIS (App H Watanabe) jumped away awkwardly.

RACE 7: OPEN H'CAP – 1300 METRES (7 STARTERS)
No incidents in running.

RACE 8: 3YO CLASS 4 H'CAP – 1300 METRES (11 STARTERS)
Jockey M Unwin was admonished for allowing his mount WAITER to shift inwards at approximately the 1000 metre mark and inconvenience the running of CEE JAY TEE (ML Evans).
JAYDEE (App L Timson) was unable to obtain clear running from approximately the 350 metre mark until the 100 metre mark.
Stewards questioned App John Dagan with regard to the performance of LAURISTAN. App Dagan advised the Stewards that when leaving the barriers the saddle had slipped on the horse and in the early stages of the event he was unable to settle LAURISTAN. Further App Dagan advised the Stewards that LAURISTAN compounded badly over the concluding stages of the event. Stewards accepted the explanation of Apprentice Dagan.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.

BOOKMAKERS: Four (4) bookmakers fielded at the race meeting.
