Long Course – out 4m from 700m to the winning post.
General Report:
Rockhampton Jockey Club meeting Sunday 27th April 2003.
An inquiry into the reasons why EVIL SNIP (M Unwin) had to be checked in Race 7 Lightning Hcp near the 600m, which was adjourned on the day, was concluded. In this incidence EVIL SNIP was buffeted for a short distance when tightened for room between SPIRIT OF NORWAY (S Galloway) on the fence and BUTCH WESTERN (App D Gay), which was inclined to shift in and away from ESPIRE (D Whitmore). As no one particular rider was deemed to be at fault no further action was taken.
RACE 1: 2YO H’CAP -1100 METRES (8 STARTERS)
PUNTERS REWARD (M Bennett) was a late scratching at the barrier by order of the Stewards when the horse became fractious in the barriers and dislodged Jockey Matthew Bennett. Before declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered that deductions be made at a rate of 19 cents in the dollar for the win portion of the bet and 16 cents in the dollar for the place portion of the bet.
Trainer Mr Victor Ferris was advised that PUNTERS REWARD is now barred until such time as that horses can successfully pass a barrier jump out. Jockey M Bennett sustained an injury to his left leg and was relieved of his riding engagements for the remainder of the day.
As the start was affected BLUE JAM (M Barnham) was slow into stride and jumped away awkwardly.
At approximately the 700 metre mark BACKSTAGE GIRL (J Stephens) was steadied after that horse laid outwards. At the same point SOMERSET ROAD (M Unwin) laid inwards. BACKSTAGE GIRL (J Stephens) was also steadied when hanging out on the home turn.
RACE 2: CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1000 METRES (11 STARTERS)
RAW FACTOR (M Unwin) jumped away awkwardly as the start was affected.
MRS DENVER (S Quick) brushed the running rail at approximately the 500-metre mark.
Jockey M Barnham the rider of C’ON DARBY was severely admonished by the Stewards for shifting ground at the 400 metre mark, which inconvenienced the running of RAW FACTOR (M Unwin).
RACE 3: MAIDEN H'CAP - 1200 METRES (9 STARTERS)
As the start was affected both TARA BRIGHT (J Stephens) and KING OF KOS ( G Evans) was slow into stride.
Jockey G Booth was admonished for allowing his mount IRGUN COWBOY to shift inwards soon after the start and inconvenience the running of SHIPWAY (M Evans).
BELLABANDITO (A Lane) raced extremely greenly in the early to middle to stages and was inclined to lay outwards at approximately the 1000 metre mark, this inconvenienced the running of both AVANTE GARDE (R Mules) and THE ROAN RANGER (App D Gay).
Stewards advised trainer J Sherwood that BELLA BANDITO is now barred until such time as the horse can successfully pass an official barrier trial.
RACE 4: CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1200 METRES (7 STARTERS)
Stewards permitted Jockey M Unwin be the replacement rider for SNAALEE replacing M Bennett.
Both SNAALEE (M Unwin) and POWER OF JUDE (R Mules) laid in over the concluding stages of the event. Both horses made contact at approximately the 50 metre mark.
RACE 5: CLASS 6 H'CAP – 1200 METRES (7 STARTERS)
Stewards permitted Jockey C Beets to the replacement rider of LADY LONG LEGS replacing Jockey M Bennett.
As the start was affected AWESOME LAD (M Unwin) jumped inwards onto LADY LONG LEGS (C Beets), which caused that horse to be inconvenienced.
RACE 6: CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1400 METRES (12 STARTERS)
Stewards permitted M Unwin to be the replacement rider of JAYDEE replacing M Bennett.
Soon after the start PACK OF GOLD (C Beets) shifted outwards which in turn took RAAMI RHYTHM (M Evans) out which inconvenienced FINANCIAL HEIGHTS (G Booth).
At approximately the 500 metre mark RAAMI RHYTHM (M Evans) shifted inwards and made contact with CLOUDY ROW (D Rewald), which was racing ungenerously at the time.
RACE 7: OPEN H'CAP – 1400 METRES (11 STARTERS)
Stewards permitted D Rewald to be the replacement rider for BARSAC replacing M Bennett.
Stable representative Drew Crouch advised the Stewards that RIVA REBEL would be ridden off the pace in this event. The necessary announcements where made.
RIVA REBEL (C.Schumacher) was disappointed for clear running for the majority of the final 400mtrs of the event.
Apprentice T.Mathieson was reprimanded for allowing her mount LAURINEL IMPULSE to shift inwards at approximately the 400mtr mark and hamper the running of BARSAC.
Apprentice D.Gay was admonished by the Stewards for failing to weigh in as required to do so, as the rider of the fifth placegetter.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
BOOKMAKERS: Two (2) bookmakers fielded at the race meeting.
