GENERAL
CHEEKY PILGRIM was scratched at 8.30am following an injury sustained whilst being loaded on the float. Trainer T Hess was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to the horse renominating.
RACE 1: CLASS 5 H’CAP – 1600M
TYCOON TED dismounted to load.
TYCOON TED (L Timson) jumped inwards coming into contact with LAWSOME (C Beets).
RACE 2: 3YO MAIDEN HCP – 1200M
Leaving the 800 metres JUMPIN’ JARED (S Quick) shifted in slightly causing ONYA (M Evans), which was racing greenly, to shift in slightly and inconvenience SUVLA BAY (M Goodwin).
An inquiry was conducted into the disappointing performance of PRINGLE’S GIRL (M McDonald). Apprentice M McDonald when questioned by Stewards stated that PRINGLE’S GIRL attempted to hang from the offset and he was unable to take up a favourable position in the early and middle stages of the race. When asked for an effort in the straight the horse failed to run on. Trainer K Pattillo stated that he was disappointed with the horse’s performance, as he had expected a better showing. Stewards noted the explanations. L Timson was reprimanded for weighing in 350 grams light on BUNDY ROSE.
RACE 3: CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1200M
SOPHIE’S LAD (H Watanabe) was slowly away.
DEVINE POWER (NZ) (R Barone) jumped in at the start.
Approaching the home turn DEVINE POWER had to be steadied attempting a narrow run inside FACIAL (D Simmons) when VOGT (J Stephens) moved off the fence making contact with that horse. FACIAL raced greenly throughout and shifted out sharply approaching the 100-metre mark.
RACE 4: OPEN HCP – 1300M
SAHARA COVET (L Timson) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of STOP WATCH (H Watanabe) at about the 1100 metres.
RACE 5: CLASS 3 PLATE – 1300M
STARVITE (C Beets) had to be steadied off the heels of SPLENDID DEBUT (D Evans) at about the 1100 metres when the pace slackened.
KIRLANILAD (G Booth) was disappointed for a run on the home turn.
GUNGADIN (M Unwin) ducked in on the home turn causing WITH INTENT (L Timson) to be steadied.
RACE 6: CLASS 6 H’CAP – 1100M
HEYA PAL (B Appo) reared in the barriers striking its mouth. HEYA PAL was removed from the barriers and examined by the veterinary surgeon who cleared that horse to start.
CATERER (D Johnston) jumped awkwardly striking the gates, which caused D Johnston to lose his near side iron. Johnston took some 100 metres to recover his lost iron.
Approaching the 500 metres HEYA PAL (B Appo) was crowded for room inside CATERER (D Johnston).
RACE 7: MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M
EBONY EDGE (M Goodwin) jumped in on to SHE’S DECENT (H Watanabe) as the gates opened.
An inquiry was held into an incident at about the 800 metres in which ROUGH ENCOUNTER (C Beets) was forced to check and lose ground. Stewards found that ROUGH ENCOUNTER, which was over racing badly, pulled its way into the field and in doing so came into contact with BUDGET BOOSTER (L Timson) forcing that horse out into EBONY EDGE (M Goodwin). BUDGET BOOSTER came back off EBONY EDGE and collided heavily with ROUGH ENCOUNTER causing that horse to be severely checked.
RACE 8: CLASS 3 HCP – 1000M
PICNIC POINT (M Evans) jumped awkwardly losing ground.
RIVIERA PLAYBOY (C Beets) attempted to buck in the early stages of the race and was restrained by its rider. Trainer J Manzelmann was advised that RIVIERA PLAYBOY would be required to barrier trail to the satisfaction of Stewards before renominating.
At about the 600 metres MY TRUE NORTH (G Booth) had to be checked off the heels of ERADICATOR (H Watanabe) when that horse eased.
At about the 500 metres ERADICATOR (H Watanabe) clipped the heels of NICE AND TIDY (D Simmons) almost dislodging H Watanabe. Stewards found that H Watanabe had allowed his mount to shift up on to the heels of NICE AND TIDY. He was warned to take more care in future.
FOUR (4) BOOKMAKERS FIELDED.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
