Race 2 Artistic Fame replaced by S Quick
Race 5 Kaptiza replaced by B Appo
Race 8 Mustang Ruler replaced by M Bennett
C Schumacher indisposed and replaced by A Lane on Alanor King Race 5. C Schumacher was ordered to present a medical certificate of fitness prior to riding again.
Trainer K Smyth was fined $50 for leading horses on to the racecourse without a bit in their mouth.
After an inquiry, M Bennett was charged with failing to obey a direction of the Stewards in that he failed to produce a medical certificate prior to riding at Ipswich on the 1st August 2003. He had sustained an injury at a meeting conducted at Rockhampton on the 31st July 2003 and had to forego two rides. M Bennett was fined $250.

RACE 1: CLASS 5 H'CAP – 1400M
ARCHER’S HOPE (W Schmidt) slowly away.
CAREFUL LOVE (M Bennett) and SPLIT THE WIND (J Stanley) both rolled in and struck the running rail of their own accord at about the 1150 metre mark. Stewards found that the incident occurred when horses attempted to take on the false rail and follow the old track.

RACE 2: CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1500M
TURF BLAZER (E Hooper) dipped at about the 1100 metre mark.
MY DANCING BOY (J Stanley) stepped inwards at about the 1125 metre mark causing CANNY FELLA (M Bennett) to shift in and strike the rail. This caused TEDDY’S LUCK (B Appo), which was travelling behind that horse, to be checked. TEDDY’S LUCK threw its head in the air and refused to settle for some distance.
CANNY FELLA (M Bennett) struck the rail of its own accord at about the 700-metre mark.

RACE 3: MAIDEN H'CAP – 1000M
At about the 500-metre mark CONSPIRACY (M Goodwin), which was hanging in, caused ARCHER BOY (M Evans) to steady and strike the fence.
HOW’M I DOIN (T Mathieson) hung throughout.

RACE 4: SPECIAL CONDITIONS H'CAP – 1000M
An inquiry was held into an incident at about the 750-metre mark in which MONTCHANIN (NZ) (D Simmons) had to be steadied when DREAMS OF WEALTH (M Goodwin) moved in and away from DUEMILA (T Mathieson) which had shifted in slightly. Stewards reprimanded T Mathieson and Jockey D Simmons was reprimanded for the quality of his evidence.

RACE 5: CLASS 4 H'CAP – 1100M
Approaching the 750-metre mark, CHIEF HARMONY (R Barone), which was lugging out, had to be steadied off the heels of POWER LIFTER (T Mathieson) which shifted in slightly.
An inquiry was held in to the poor showing of CHIEF HARMONY. R Barone stated that the horse had failed to respond at any stage of the race and he felt that something was amiss with the horse. Stewards ordered a veterinary inspection and a routine swab sample was taken. The veterinarian reported that the horse had a very poor recovery rate and would be monitored for some time. Veterinary certificate required prior to horse starting again.

RACE 6: CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1200M
DANZIP (M Bennett) jumped outwards coming into contact with ENCOSTING (D Johnston).

RACE 7: CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1300M
IRELAND (D Simmons) jumped in sharply and both CALEDONIAN LAD (M Bennett) and REGIMENTAL (S Quick) jumped outwards causing COUNT ON KEN (R Barone) to be checked and lose ground. CALEDONIAN LAD raced poorly. Stewards ordered a vet’s inspection following a report from A Crouch that the horse was sore.
A Crouch lodged a complaint regarding his horse CALEDONIAN LAD suffering interference at the start. He was shown the head on video, which allayed his concerns.
G Booth was warned regarding his use of the whip.

RACE 8: OPEN H’CAP – 1300M
B Appo the rider of PASSER PASSION requested a viewing of the video prior to correct weight being declared. B Appo elected not to lodge an objection.
At a subsequent inquiry J Stephens the rider of CAPANNELLE was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift out over the concluding stages and hamper PASSER PASSION.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.

3 BOOKMAKERS FIELDED.
