SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT: Rockhampton 27th December 2012:

Trainer M. Barnham reported that VAL'S BULL had pulled up with some lameness in the near foreleg. Mr Barnham advised that he will seek treatment for the complaint and freshen the horse up prior to its next race start.

GENERAL:

Licensed trackwork rider Ms K. Flynn pleaded guilty to a charge under A. R. 81A(1)(a) in that when present at the Callaghan Park Racecourse on Tuesday 1st January 2013 for the purpose of riding trackwork she provided a breath sample which upon analysis was found to contain a blood alcohol concentration of .100 %, which is above the permissible limit of .02% as set out in the Australian Rules of Racing. In considering penalty for the offence stewards took into account Ms Flynn's 9 year history in racing, during which period she had not incurred any disciplinary history, and also that she had been honest, embarrassed and remorseful regarding the incident from the outset. Stewards were mindful that riding trackwork is a secondary source of income for her. Taking into account all the mitigating circumstances, stewards suspended Ms Flynn's licence to ride trackwork for one calendar month, to commence at midnight on 3rd January 2013, up to and including 3rd February 2013.

LATE RIDING CHANGES:

When Jockey T. Bannon was unable to fulfil her engagements for personal reasons, substitutions were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: Cardo Roadtest 2YO Maiden Handicap - 1050 metres
1st CASINO BENJO 2nd HAYYLER'S DEVIL 3rd CRAIGLEA TORQUE 4th - IF ONLY THEY KNEW

When Jockey A. Coome was to be overweight, Jockey S.Sheargold was substituted as the rider of MASTER ROSHI. Jockey Coome was fined $200 under A. R. 120(b).

NARLA (C. McIver) was a little slow to begin, shifted inwards and lost ground.

CASINO BENJO (App. A. Kitson) was slow to begin.

BAR'S WOW (J. Stephens), which had been fractious in the barriers prior to the start being effected, began awkwardly.

RED HOT NOODLES (L. Dillon) raced wide from near the 800 metres.

In the middle stages BAR'S WOW (J. Stephens) raced greenly.

Approaching the 200 metres NARLA (C. McIver) laid out under pressure.

Near the 200 metres HAYYLER'S DEVIL (N. Patchett) rolled in and tightened IF ONLY THEY KNEW (App. D. McWhinney), which became unbalanced.

RED HAY (D. Hayse) and CRAIGLEA TORQUE (T. O'Hara) raced wide throughout.

A post-race veterinary examination of MASTER ROSHI (S. Sheargold) revealed that the gelding was showing signs of tying up.

Race 2: Bell Thomasson Builders Open Handicap - 1200 metres
1st MORE MORE MORE 2nd MARTIROS 3rd COUNTY SHERRIF 4th - CANNYCLIMB

CANNYCLIMB (App. B. Floyd) turned its head as the start was effected, and as a result was slow to begin.

Stewards inquired into an incident near the 900 metres. App. B. Floyd pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that she permitted CANNYCLIMB to shift in when insufficiently clear of COUNTY SHERRIF (App. A. Kitson), which was restrained and lost its rightful running. App. B. Floyd’s licence to ride in races was suspended from midnight on Saturday, 12th January 2013 up to and including Saturday 19th January 2013 (2 meetings)

In the middle stages COUNTY SHERRIF (App. A. Kitson) laid out and bumped MARTIROS (J. P. Stanley).

Race 3: Indoor Sports Arena F&M Maiden Handicap - 1100 metres
1st SUSPICIOUS MISS 2nd MAGIC FLAG 3rd MARDARE 4th - ISA TALA

Whilst parading behind the barriers it was noted that RUN FOR RICHARD (App. D. McWhinney) had blood in its mouth. The filly was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field.

After ISA TALA (App. C. Pye) was placed in the barriers it was noted that the filly had lost its near hind plate. To avoid a further delay the filly's off hind plate was removed and ISA TALA raced bare behind.

RUN FOR RICHARD (App. D. McWhinney) began awkwardly and lost ground.

Shortly after the start MARDARE (S. Sheargold) and HOT LIPS ROSIE (A. Coome) made contact.

SUSPICIOUS MISS (T. O'Hara) and LETHAL ROSE (N. Patchett) also made contact.
At the start ISA TALA (App. C. Pye) shifted out and was inclined to hang out in the middle stages.

In the middle stages HOT LIPS ROSIE (A. Coome) raced greenly.

LETHAL ROSE (N. Patchett) raced wide throughout.

A post-race veterinary examination of HOT LIPS ROSIE (A. Coome) did not reveal any abnormalities.

Race 4: Sleepy’s Rockhampton C&G Maiden Handicap - 1100 metres
1st SHOW US THE WAY 2nd MOON GUIDE 3rd HIP SHAKE BANG 4th - RICORDO

FIRING HIGH (D. Missen) and SHOW US THE WAY (App. D. McWhinney) proved difficult to load into the barriers.

At the start PENDULUMS (L. Dillon), ROYAL FUSILIER (A.Coome) and AL GHAZI (J. Stephens) were all tightened for room between RICORDO (App. C. Pye) and FIRING HIGH (D. Missen), both of which shifted ground.

Shortly after the start JOSIE'S WELL (App. A. Kitson) commenced to buck and then took no competitive part in the event. Trainer J. Pointon) was advised that the gelding will be required to perform satisfactorily in two jump-outs, under racing conditions and over a distance further than 800 metres, before being permitted to race again.

Near the 700 metres BATTLER'S GOLD (App. B. Floyd) shifted ground, resulting in CAN DRAGONS FLY (S. Sheargold) having to be eased. Shortly after, MOON GUIDE (J. Stanley) improved and was steadied from the heels of CAN DRAGONS FLY.

Stewards sought an explanation from Jockey L. Dillon as to the performance of PENDULUMS. Jockey Dillon stated that he had been advised that the gelding missed training work prior to today's event. Jockey Dillon said that he had been instructed to take up a position towards the rear of the field, as the gelding normally gets back in its races. Jockey Dillon said further that he placed PENDULUMS under pressure from the 400 metres, however it failed to respond to his riding and he was of the opinion that the lack of recent racing had told on the gelding's condition and that on pulling up PENDULUMS was exhibiting a lack of fitness. Jockey Dillon added that the gelding would take benefit from the run and would be better suited in races over a longer distance than today's event. A post-race veterinary examination of PENDULUMS did not reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer M. Barham reported that on return to his stables PENDULUMS had bled from both nostrils. The gelding would be barred for a period of 3 months and require a 1000m gallop prior to its next race start.

Race 5: Channel Seven BM 65 Handicap - 1600 metres
1st CHINRUB 2nd POWER TO EXCEED 3rd TOYHERO 4th - SIR VAN TEES

The start was delayed when, after being placed in the barriers, WONDER WIZARD (J. Stephens) became fractious, reared and dislodged its rider. WONDER WIZARD was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field.

Prior to the declaration of correct weight stewards sought initial statements from trainer L. Rowe and App. B. Floyd as to the reason for App. Floyd, the rider of MARMILLION which finished 4th, weighing in more than 1 kg below her allotted weight. Acting under A.R. 143A MARMILLION was disqualified from the event. At a subsequent inquiry trainer L. Rowe pleaded guilty to a charge under A.R. 118A in that he had removed the gel pad from the gear of MARMILLION with which App. Floyd had weighed out. After taking into account Mr Rowe's exemplary record over 30 years of racing, stewards fined Mr Rowe $500.

SIR VAN TEES (App. C. Pye) jumped awkwardly outwards and made contact with the barrier partition.

For a short distance near the 1100 metres SIR VAN TEES (App. C. Pye) over-raced and had to be steadied from the heels of CHINRUB (A. Coome).

Near the 300 metres FEROCITY BLUE (App. D. McWhinney) was tightened for room between WILL IMPRESS (S. Egan), which shifted out under pressure, and CHINRUB (A. Coome), which was inclined to lay in.

MARMILLION (App. B. Floyd) raced 3-wide for the majority of the event.

A post-race veterinary examination of WONDER WIZARD (J. Stephens) revealed that the mare was lame in the near hind leg and was exhibiting a slow post-race recovery rate. A veterinary certificate would be required prior to the gelding's next race start.

A post-race veterinary examination of SIR NICK (J. P. Stanley) did not reveal any abnormalities.

Race 6: Robert Crow Jnr Class 1 Handicap - 970 metres
1st MEDDLESOME MISS 2nd STORMWOOD 3rd STAR GIGGLE 4th - TELLKANE

TELLKANE (D. Hayse) knuckled badly on jumping.

SISTA SISTA (D. Hayse) was slow into stride.

In the middle stages ARESVEPEE (C. McIver) raced ungenerously.

Near the 700 metres TESTYA TIME (L. Dillon), which was racing ungenerously, laid out and made contact with the hindquarters of MEDDLESOME MISS (D. Missen), which caused it to shifted in slightly, resulting in TESTYA TIME being taken inwards. At the same time STORMWOOD (T. O'Hara) over-raced and had to be checked from the heels of TESTYA TIME and lost ground.

From near the 100 metres STORMWOOD (T. O'hara) laid in under pressure and was unable to be fully ridden out.

STAR GIGGLE (App. D. McWhinney) raced wide throughout.

Correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey T. O'Hara to view the patrol films to ascertain if there were grounds to lodge an objection against the winner MEDDLESOME MISS. After doing so, Jockey O'Hara did not proceed with any objection and correct weight was declared.

Stewards sought an explanation from Jockey J. Stephens as to the performance of SISTA SISTA. Jockey Stephens stated that the filly had been placed under pressure throughout the event, however failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing. Stewards will seek a follow-up report from trainer L. Applewaite.

Race 7: XXXX Gold Class 4 Handicap - 1050 metres
1st PRIVATE CHAT 2nd ARRESTED FOR SPEED 3rd SPORTING PAGE 4th - NAN BELL

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer J. O'Sing for the late declaration of App. B. Floyd as the rider for TOY JET.

The start was delayed when QUEEN OF HAPPINESS (J. Stephens) became fractious after being placed in the barriers.

After arriving behind the barriers ALL SIGNIFICANT (D. Missen) was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon. Acting on her advice that the mare was lame in the near foreleg, stewards ordered the withdrawal of ALL SIGNIFICANT at 4.52 p.m. Subsequently they ordered that all bets made on ALL SIGNIFICANT be refunded in full and that the following deductions apply:

5¢ in the dollar for the win for PRIVATE CHAT
11¢ in the dollar for the place for the winner, PRIVATE CHAT
10¢ in the dollar for the place for 2nd, ARRESTED FOR SPEED
3¢ in the dollar for the place for 3rd, SPORTING PAGE

MARICOPA (App. A. Kitson) stood flat-footed when the start was effected, was slow to begin and lost ground.

MASTER GREIG (A. Coome) was slow to begin.

BAGABOB (App. D. McWhinney) raced wide throughout.
