GENERAL:
On Wednesday, 11th September, 2013, swab samples were taken from 15 runners engaged for this meeting.
Race 1: Coaltrain Class 6 Plate- 1400 metres
GUILIETTA (T. O'Hara) began awkwardly and lost ground at the start.
Near the 1000m when STAY THE NIGHT (A. Coome) steadied the pace, MISTABLISTA (S. McGovern) was steadied from the heels of that runner and ENDLESS TOWER (C. Pye) and GUILIETTA commenced to overrace for a short distance.
Near the 1000m MACEDON (D. Evans), which had commenced to overrace, improved three wide to take a position outside the leader, STAY THE NIGHT.
Near the 200m STAY THE NIGHT laid out under pressure.
Stewards inquired into an incident over the concluding stages. Jockey B. El-Issa (POWER PLANT) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that he used insufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting in when not clear of STAY THE NIGHT, resulting in that horse being tightened and having to be checked. Acting under the provisions of AR. 196(3), stewards ordered that jockey El-Issa's licence to ride in races be suspended from 20 October to 26 October, 2013 to be served cumulatively with a previously incurred suspension.
Race 2: Sams Fencing Maiden Handicap- 1100 metres
As apprentice S. Payne was unable to arrive on course, A. Taylor was substituted as the rider of DROPPER CRYSTAL.
RUN FOR RICHARD (L. Tilley) jumped awkwardly.
RE ECHO (K. Gates) jumped awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with RUN FOR RICHARD, which was taken out and bumped VIZZANO (A. Coome).
COLD COLLECT (D. Evans) began a little awkwardly.
MIDNIGHT STALKER (T. O’Hara) raced three wide throughout.
C. Pye (IRON MIKE) was fined $100 for using the whip when her mount was out of contention.
A post-race veterinary examination of RUN FOR RICHARD revealed minor skin lacerations to the near hind stifle.
Race 3: G&L Dunnett Plasterboard QTIS 3YO Handicap - 1100 metres
COURTMAN (B. El-Issa) was slow to begin.
MT ZIGGARO (A. Coome) jumped in the air at the start and raced wide until near the 700m, at which time it took a position outside the leader, MYTHOLOGIST.
COURTMAN raced wide around the home turn.
Race 4: Advanced Exhausts BM 65 Handicap - 1600 metres
SPEEDSKATER (A. Kitson) and RADIANT JOY (L. Tilley) began awkwardly.
FORECLOSURE (D. Simmons) jumped in the air, began awkwardly and lost ground.
LIBERTY'S MAGIC (T. O’Hara) was slow to begin.
SPEEDSKATER over-raced in the early stages.
Nearing the 550m FORECLOSURE dipped and was awkward in its stride.
Apprentice L. Tilley pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that near the 500 metres he used insufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting out when insufficiently clear of FORECLOSURE, resulting in FORECLOSURE being tightened and having to be checked. Apprentice Tilley's licence to ride in races was suspended from midnight on Saturday 14 September to Saturday 21 September 2013.
Following this race D. Simmons reported that he had struck his left elbow on the barriers. After being examined by medical officers, D. Simmons was cleared to fulfil his remaining engagements.
Race 5: D Grays Grader & Loader Hire Class 1 Handicap- 1100 metres
Stewards acceded to a request from trainer K. Hansen (SHOW US THE WAY) that due to specific circumstances relating to the gelding the absent apprentice S. Payne be replaced with a senior rider. B. El-Issa was subsequently permitted to replace S. Payne as the rider of SHOW US THE WAY.
The start of this race was delayed due to EMOTIONALLY YOURS (C. Pye) and SILENT CHARADES (J. Stephens) requiring farrier attention.
EMOTIONALLY YOURS was slow to begin.
ROMONA MISS (L. Tilley) jumped awkwardly outwards and made contact with GREEDY (T. O’Hara), which had knuckled and shifted in.
FRENCH GARRISON (A. Coome) and HAYYLER'S DRAGON (L. Dillon) made contact on jumping.
Near the 650m ROMONA MISS was steadied from the heels of GREEDY and shifted out taking FRENCH GARRISON wider on the track.
Approaching the 600m SHOW US THE WAY (B. El-Issa) laid out and raced wide on the track and near the 300m laid out and shifted ground, requiring B. El-Issa to stop riding and straighten his mount.
Stewards sought an explanation regarding the performance of GREEDY. Jockey O'Hara stated that after beginning poorly she was obliged to pressure the gelding forward to obtain the lead and the gelding exhibited its usual racing trait of laying out throughout, however was under pressure from near the 300m and had been disappointing. Jockey O'Hara stated that she assessed blinkers may assist the gelding in its future starts. A post-race veterinary examination of GREEDY revealed no abnormalities.
Race 6: Charlies Pest Control BM 75 Handicap- 1100 metres
A delay to the start of this race occurred when BAGABOB (B. El-Issa), which broke through the barriers and was quickly restrained, underwent a veterinary examination and passed to take its place in the field.
COLLECTOR (A. Kitson) was slow to begin.
PRINCELY (A. Coome) jumped out at the start.
BAGGER BONES (L. Tilley) and PEE JAY QUE (D. Simmons) raced wide throughout.
Approaching the 900m BAGABOB was steadied away from the heels of PRINCELY. COLLECTOR, which was following, was also steadied.
Jockey C. Pye, the rider of PASSIVITY, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that near the 900m she permitted her mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of BAGGER BONES, resulting in that horse clipping the heels of PASSIVITY and blundering, shifting in and tightening PEE JAY QUE, which was hampered. Jockey Pye's licence to ride in races was suspended from midnight on Saturday 14 September up to Saturday 21 September 2013. In consideration of penalty, stewards were mindful of jockey Pye's exemplary riding record.
From near the 100m BAGABOB had difficulty obtaining clear running on occasions and was not fully tested.
A post-race veterinary inspection of BAGGER BONES did not reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 7: Channel 7 Class 3 Handicap- 1300 metres
THE HYDRATOR (L. Dillon) jumped awkwardly and appeared to slip behind.
I'LL HAVE YOU KNOW (E. Heinemann) was slow into stride.
SUZANNE (A. Coome), NEDERBURG (A. Taylor) and SUPERB EFFORT (K. Gates) were slow to begin.
SUPERB EFFORT (K. Gates) and FEROCITY BLUE (T. O’Hara) raced wide throughout.
Near the 500m SUPERB EFFORT shifted out abruptly and unbalanced the rider momentarily.
Near the 500m SUZANNE attempted to shift to the inside of THE HYDRATOR which at that stage rolled in.
Jockey J. Stanley reported that he had been instructed to ride the mare in a handy position, however due to the lack of pace in the early stages, when pressured, the mare led easily and when placed under pressure had run on fairly but proved disappointing.
