Stewards sought an explanation form Jockey D. Evans as to the tactics and performance of MAYOR OF CLONMEL. Jockey Evans stated that his only instruction was to be handy to the leaders prior to straightening. However, the horse began awkwardly and Jockey Evans had to pressure the gelding to take up a position at the rear of the field and close to the running rail. Jockey Evans added that to comply with the trainer's instructions he would have had to make ground four wide in the early and middle stages. Jockey Evans said that when he placed MAYOR OF CLONMEL under pressure leaving the 700 metres the gelding made reasonable ground and, given the circumstances, he was satisfied with the horse's performance.
Race 2: Namara & Coal Dust Brangus QTIS 3YO Handicap - 1400 metres

A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed that DORF RILEY was lame in the near fore knee. Trainer T. lame in near fore knee. Mr Burgoyne informed stewards that DORF RILEY will now be freshened up prior to its next race start.

As the start was effected JOPH LA HAE (M. Usher) bounded in the air and lost ground.
ENDLESS TOWER (L. Dillon) and TITANIUM ROCK (D. Simmons) were slow to begin.
Near the 1300 metres TITANIUM ROCK was steadied from the heels of ENDLESS TOWER and then raced three wide throughout.
Stewards inquired into the riding of Jockey D. Evans, the rider of ARISTON, between the 600 metres and the 400 metres, in particular the reasons why he failed to take advantage of apparent opportunities in the home straight. Jockey Evans stated that he had been instructed to hold the horse up and race with cover until the latter stages of the straight. Jockey Evans said that upon straightening he shifted out from the heels of SKALATONIC (D. Hayse) and elected to shift out further to the outside of TIGERLICIOUS (App A Kitson) when doubtful running existed to the inside of that runner. Jockey Evans said he was committed to shift out across the heels of MACEDON (C. Pye) at which time a clear run presented to its inside. Jockey Evans further stated that ARISTON was reluctant to hold its ground to the inside of PAZZESCO (A. Coome), which had sprinted quickly. Nevertheless, in his opinion ARISTON finished the race off well and found the line fairly.
In the straight PAZZESCO shifted ground under pressure.
