Race 1: Summer Bright F&M Maiden Handicap - 1050 metres

HIDDEN NATURE (A. Coome) was slow to begin and was then hampered by TUNING (C-M. Pye), which shifted out.

In the middle stages HOUDINI GIRL (App. B. Appo) laid out.

BORN TO SURVIVE (S. Evans) raced wide throughout.

Race 2: Bacardi Oakheart QTIS 3YO Handicap - 1200 metres
1st FINAL CHAPTER 2nd BYNAZAR 3rd ZAHA DREAM 4th - SIMON BON ROCKET

SIMON BON ROCKET (T. Bannon) was presented in the mounting yard with a browband and winkers as the gelding's approved gear. As this was not permissible under the National Gear Register, the winkers were removed from the gelding and public announcements were made accordingly. Stewards will make further inquiries in relation to the error.

After arriving behind the barriers A DEAL OF HONOUR (D. Hayse) reared over and dislodged Jockey Hayse, who was injured. A DEAL OF HONOUR was withdrawn by order of the stewards at 1.36 p.m. Subsequently they ordered that all bets made on A DEAL OF HONOUR be refunded in full and that the following deductions apply:

2¢ in the dollar for the win for the winner, FINAL CHAPTER
3¢ in the dollar for the place for the winner, FINAL CHAPTER
3¢ in the dollar for the place for second, BYNAZAR
4¢ in the dollar for the place for third, ZAHA DREAM

Jockey Hayse was advised that he must furnish a medical clearance before being permitted to ride again.

ZAHA DREAM (T. O'Hara) and MT ZIGGARO (App. B. Appo) bumped on jumping.

SIMON BON ROCKET (T. Bannon) was slow to begin.

In the early stages MT ZIGGARO raced wide.

Leaving the 600 metres FINAL CHAPTER (App. A. Allen) and SON OF A WARRIOR brushed.

Race 3: Hahn Premuim Light Open Handicap- 1100 metres
1st NEVZLIN 2nd ASSIMILATOR 3rd EQUABLE 4th - DINERO RAPIDO

When Jockey D. Hayse was injured and unable to fulfil his engagement, Jockey T. Bannon was substituted as the rider of DENWOOD.

On jumping, JEALOUS GUY (C. Pye) was tightened for room between ASSIMILATOR (N. Callow) and NEVZLIN (D. Evans), both of which shifted ground.

At the start PEGUNNY CAT (J. P. Stanley) shifted out and lost ground.

On returning to scale Jockey N. Callow reported that ASSIMILATOR, which was racing in blinkers again, pulled hard in the early and middle stages until straightening.

Following the running of this race the track rating was upgraded to a SLOW (6) at 2.25 p.m.

Race 4: David Ronald Vale Memorial E&G Maiden Handicap- 1050 metres
1st COUNTING HOUSE 2nd CAUGHT ELOPING 3rd KOKO CLANG 4th - DREAM RIDE

The declaration of correct weight was delayed when trainer T. McMahon and Jockey L. Dillon viewed the stewards' patrol films to determine whether to lodge an objection against COUNTING HOUSE (App. A. Allen) being declared the winner. Having done so they elected not to lodge a protest and correct weight was declared on the judge's numbers.
When Jockey D. Hayse was injured and unable to fulfil his engagement, and no suitable senior rider was available, stewards permitted App. J. Orman to be substituted as the rider of DREAM RIDE.

When Jockey S. McGovern was to be overweight, Jockey C. Pye was substituted as the rider of OH GOLLY. Jockey McGovern was fined $200 under A.R. 120(b).

SHAKY DUKE (T. O'Hara) was slow to begin and laid in for a short distance after the start.

OH GOLLY began awkwardly.

At approximately the 900 metres KOKO CLANG (S. Evans) was steadied when KING PEM (T. Bannon) shifted in slightly away from CAUGHT ELOPING. (L. Dillon).

Near the 700 metres DREAM RIDE (App. J. Orman) laid in behind COUNTING HOUSE (App. A. Allen).

At the 400 metres OH GOLLY and IRONOUTLAW bumped.

Over the concluding stages COUNTING HOUSE shifted out under pressure.

IRONOUTLAW (J. Stephens) and OH GOLLY raced wide throughout.

Stewards questioned Jockey C Pye as to her instructions and riding of OH GOLLY. Jockey Pye stated that she was instructed to take up a forward position if possible and not to restrain the gelding. Jockey Pye said that in order to comply with those instructions she shifted her mount to the outside of VAST ELEMENT (A. Coome) near the 800 metres, taking IRONOUTLAW wider and obliging that colt to race wide for the remainder of the event. Jockey Pye stated further that OH GOLLY did not handle today's rain-affected track. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding did not reveal any abnormalities.

On returning to scale Jockey S. Evans reported that in the straight KOKO CLANG hung in. Trainer R. Bowen said that the gelding had a minor laceration to its near fore fetlock.

Stewards afforded Jockey A. Coome the opportunity to explain the poor performance of VAST ELEMENT. Jockey Coome said the gelding did not handle today's rain-affected track and in his opinion may have lacked some fitness coming into the event.

Race 5: Raffle $10 000 Sale Voucher BM60 Handicap- 1050 metres
1st REV THE CHEV 2nd ALOTTA MOJO 3rd BAROQUE STAR 4th - ERVBEFEL

Stewards considered an application for BONNY THE VIPER to be declared a non-starter under A. R.134A. After taking evidence from Jockey Pye, the Starter Mr T. Woodham and trainer K. Miller, and viewing the stewards' patrol films of the start, giving consideration to the provisions of A.R. 134A established that prior to the start the mare had been fractious and lunged forward when being attended, which caused the barrier gate to be broken as the start was effected. In the circumstances stewards found that BONNY THE VIPER had been denied a fair start as it was unable to begin with the field due to being impeded by the broken barrier gate. In this incident, Jockey Pye was dislodged from the mare. Consequently BONNY THE VIPER was declared a non-starter. Stewards ordered that all bets made on BONNY THE VIPER be refunded in full and that the following deductions apply:

18¢ in the dollar for the win for the winner, REV THE CHEV
18¢ in the dollar for the place for the winner, REV THE CHEV
16¢ in the dollar for the place for 2nd, ALOTTA MOJO
19¢ in the dollar for the place for third, BAROQUE STAR

Bearing in mind the mitigating circumstances of this incident and no prior action taken on the mare, stewards placed a warning on the barrier manners of BONNY THE VIPER.

KISS THE GROOM (App. K. Gates) raced wide throughout.

Race 6: XXXX Gold Class 3 Plate- 1200 metres
1st EDGEROI DIXIE 2nd MORAL PERSUASION 3rd STRADA TITLE 4th - HONOUR JACKO

HONOUR JACKO (A. Coome), LOGICAL OUTCOME (App. K. Gates) and PRINCE FIREBALL (App. J. Orman) were slow to begin.

EDGEROI DIXIE (T. O'Hara) bounded in the air at the start.

Near the 700 metres SIX OF HEARTS (C. Pye) raced ungenerously on the heels of PRINCE FIREBALL and had to be steadied.

KEWAY (S. McGovern) raced wide throughout.

Following this race App. K. Gates became indisposed and was unable to fulfil her further engagement. App. Gates was advised that she must provide a medical clearance before being permitted to ride again.

Race 7: Capricornia Yearling Sales & Races 10-12 April BM 60 Handicap- 1400 metres
1st - RIVER OF DREAMS 2nd BETTER LATER 3rd THANKGODFORFRANC 4th - LICK 'EM LOLLY

When Jockey D. Hayse was injured and unable to fulfil his engagement, Jockey S. McGovern was substituted as the rider of WEATHERVANE.

As App. K. Gates became indisposed after riding in Race 6, and no other apprentice was available, Jockey C Pye was substituted as the rider of GREYWIN.

PEGUNNY SPUR (J. P. Stanley) and CHEATIN' CHARLIE (App.A. Kitson) were slow to begin.

Shortly after the start BETTER LATER (I. French) became awkwardly placed between STRONG TIL DAWN (T. O'Hara) and GREYWIN, which shifted out.

On returning to scale Jockey A. Coome reported that THANKGODFORFRANC may not have been suited by today's rain-affected track conditions.

Stewards sought an explanation from Jockey D. Evans for the seemingly poor performance of SWING AND SING. Jockey Evans stated that he had been instructed to go forward, however due to the strong pace of the race he was unable to obtain a forward position and in the circumstances settled the mare midfield, three wide with cover. Jockey Evans said that in the early part of the straight the mare commenced to yield ground. Jockey Evans was of the opinion that the rain-affected track may have contributed to the horse's disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination of SWING AND SING revealed that the mare was lame in the off fore. Trainer M. Cochrane will be advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance prior to SWING AND SING being permitted to race again.

When questioned as to the performance of PEGUNNY SPUR, Jockey J. P. Stanley stated that the pace of the event has been quicker than he had anticipated and he had attempted to obtain the lead, however when other runners to his inside improved, he was obliged to race three wide. Jockey Stanley added that he placed his mount under pressure from the 600 metres; however the gelding compounded and was eased down in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding did not reveal any abnormalities.

Stewards sought an explanation from trainer R. Bowen for the seemingly improved performance of RIVER OF DREAMS (S. Evans). Mr Bowen explained that the mare had been working well leading into today's event and was ridden to suit the race today. Mr Bowen noted that there had been some contributing circumstances to the mare's most recent performances and he was of the opinion that today's conditions were beneficial for the horse. The explanation was noted.
