Race 1: XXXX Island E&G Maiden Handicap- 1050 metres
1st DESTINO STRADA 2nd CAUGHT ELOPING 3rd IRONOUTLAW 4th - DOCTOR BURGER
BARBOUGE (C. Pye) was slow to begin, then shifted out and made heavy contact with IRONOUTLAW (J. Stephens) and lost ground.
SIR PRANG (D. Evans) and MIDNIGHT STALKER (C. McIver) raced wide throughout.
SIR PRANG bled from both nostrils in running. Trainer L. Rowe was advised that, under A.R. 53A, as this was the first time the gelding had bled, it will be barred from racing for 3 months, and then only after performing satisfactorily in a trial over at least 1000 metres in the presence of a steward.
Following the race trainer T. McMahon reported that CAUGHT ELOPING (C. Spry) had sustained a laceration to its near hind fetlock.
Race 2: XXXX F&M Maiden Handicap - 1050 metres
1st LE CHAT BOTTE 2nd ROSELLA EAGLE 3rd PRIMED FOR DESTINY 4th - WELL HELLO DOLLY
The start was delayed to allow for the broadcast of an interstate event.
LITTLE ISH (T. O'Hara) and PRIMED FOR DESTINY (D. Evans) were slow to begin.
Rounding the home turn PRIMED FOR DESTINY was inclined to lay out.
Leaving the 400 metres PRIMED FOR DESTINY was momentarily held up and unable to obtain clear running.
Near the 200 metres VIZZANO (K. Gates) shifted out slightly, which resulted in CHERRY BRANDY (S. Sheargold) being eased.
WELL HELLO DOLLY (M. Usher) raced three wide throughout.
LITTLE ISH (T. O'Hara) raced wide throughout.
Race 3: Brisbane Bloodstock Bonus QTIS 2YO Maiden Handicap- 1200 metres
1st GOLDIE'S IMAGE 2nd THAT PRETTY GIRL 3rd SERENE SAGA 4th - ONEMORENOBLEDANCEER
EXCETTE (App. S. Alam), which struck a rail in the enclosure, underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers and was cleared to take its place in the field.
GOLDIE'S IMAGE (A. Coome) had to be re-saddled behind the barriers.
The explanation tendered by trainer J. Pointon for the late declaration of Jockey J. Stephens as the rider of MURTASKILL was accepted.
MURTASKILL was slow to begin.
JORDANS JET (M. Usher) began awkwardly and lost ground.
EXCETTE (App. S. Alam) began awkwardly.
From the 700 metres until the early part of the home straight ONEMORENOBLEDANCER (C. McIver) was inclined to lay in.
Approaching the 400 metres SERENE SAGA (D. Evans) attempted to improve into a doubtful run between MONTE CERVINO (C Pye) and DO US PROUD (T. O'Hara), shifted to the inside of MONTE CERVINO, made contact with the running rail, was held up and shifted out to obtain clear running.
Near the 200 metres HOT PLATE (K. Gates) shifted out marginally, resulting in JORDANS JET having to be eased to avoid that horse's heels.
YOURS TRUTHFULLY (S. McGovern) raced wide throughout.
Race 4: The Rockhampton Grammar School QTIS 3YO Handicap- 1200 metres
1st TOUCH 'N' GO 2nd MISHANI GLADIATOR 3rd NUDE SECRETS 4th - DAM FLASH
After being placed in the barriers NUDE SECRETS got its off leg over the barrier partition. The gelding was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field.
At the start DAM FLASH (K. Gates) jumped in and made contact with CRAIGLEA CRUZ (A. Coome).
TALK TOUGH (T. O'Hara) was slow into stride.
SAGAMASTER (A. Best) raced wide until near the 700 metres.
Approaching the 900 metres NUDE SECRETS, when being restrained, raced ungenerously for a short distance.
Leaving the 500 metres JOKERMAN (S. Sheargold) shifted out to force a run to its outside and made contact with MISHANI GLADIATOR (C. Spry), which was taken wider and became unbalanced. Jockey S. Sheargold was reprimanded for careless riding.
Following the race Jockey A. Coome reported that he became concerned with the action of CRAIGLEA CRUZ over the final 200 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding was mildly lame in the near foreleg and showing a poor post-race recovery rate.
Race 5: Phil Peel Jewellers Class 3 Plate- 1400 metres
1st DAMO'S TOUCH 2nd POWER RANGER 3rd THE PANTZ 4th - DAME JUDARIUS
The declaration of correct weight was delayed when trainer K. Price and an owner of DAME JUDARIUS examined the official video films with a view to lodging an objection against POWER RANGER being declared 2nd. Having done so, they elected not to protest and correct was declared on the judge's numbers.
ZABEELZEBUB (T. O'Hara) began awkwardly.
RESTRAINING ORDER (K. Gates) dipped on jumping.
POWER RANGER (A. Coome) was a little slow to begin.
RE ECHO (C Pye), which was standing awkwardly in the barriers, began awkwardly and was buffeted between DAMO'S TOUCH (S. Sheargold) and A FINE DROP OF RED (C. Spry).
In the middle stages DAMO'S TOUCH pulled hard.
Leaving the 600 metres RESTRAINING ORDER laid in onto POWER RANGER.
From leaving the 400 metres until near the 300 metres DAME JUDARIUS was held up and unable to obtain clear running, and had to be shifted out to improve.
Near the 250 metres POWER RANGER, when unable to improve into a run forward and to the inside of A FINE DROP OF RED, which shifted in slightly, shifted out from behind that runner, and then laid out under pressure, which resulted in DAME JUDARIUS being bumped and shifted out, and CHERISHTHETHOUGHT, which was following, being eased.
THE PANTZ (S. McGovern) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 6: Hahn Premium Light Class 1 Handicap- 1050 metres
1st POPULAR BELIEF 2nd SHOW US THE WAY 3rd DORSAL FIN 4th - RIO VISTA
Trainer D. Gardiner was reprimanded under L.R. 67 for failing to declare Jockey S. McGovern as the rider of RIO VISTA by the prescribed time.
GO SAI (A. Best) began awkwardly and was slow into stride.
DORSAL FIN (Pye) jumped out at the start and hampered RIO VISTA, which was taken outwards and made contact with the hindquarters of HAYIL METRO (App. S. Alam).
On jumping LIGHTMEUP LUCKY (M. Usher) shifted out and lost ground.
For a short distance near the 900 metres HAYIL METRO over-raced.
At the 650 metres STARFIRE LADY (D. Evans) resented racing to the inside of RIO VISTA and when restrained laid out, raced ungenerously and lost ground.
RIO VISTA was held up from the 350 metres until near the 150 metres.
STARFIRE LADY had difficulty obtaining clear running for a short distance near the 200 metres.
STAMPEDE STRAP (T. O’Hara) and BEYOND THE STORM (S Sheargold) raced wide throughout.
