Race 1: Chevron Steam Laundry C&G Maiden Plate- 1050 metres
FOOLISH THOUGHT - Proved difficult to load, delaying the start. Steadied leaving the 900m when tightened for room.
RED RADA - Proved difficult to load, also delaying the start. Raced ungenerously for the majority of the race and hung in near the 200m inconveniencing another runner when placed in restricted room. Trainer L. Jamieson who advised he would experiment with further gear changes prior to its next start was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings racing manners.
BENJI - Began awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with another runner. Shifted in when improving forward near the 200m placing inside runners in restricted room. Rider D. Evans was reprimanded.
LIGHTNING ARTIST - Bumped at start.
CHAIN THE GATE - Hampered shortly after the start.
CAUSE DIVORCE - Shifted in leaving the 900m crowding another runner. Rider T. Williams was advised too exercise more care. Raced in restricted room near 900m.
BAG OF SMILES - Shifted in leaving the 900m, placing inside runners in restricted room. Rider C. Pye was reprimanded and advised to be fully clear when shifting ground in future.
DOCTOR BURGER – Raced in restricted room near 200m and was restrained.
GHANA - Hung out approaching the 600m and again in the home straight when placed under pressure. Inquiry into disappointing performance. Rider A. Coome was unable to offer any explanation, other than he was disappointed with the performance. Trainer L. Rowe agreed with the rider's assessment, and gave an undertaking to advise stewards should anything come to his attention in the near future that may have had a bearing on to today's performance.
Race 2: Capricorn Rewind F&M Maiden Plate- 1050 metres
ELLE THE MODEL - Began awkwardly and lost ground.
DARK MATTER - Slow to begin.
DAY LILLY - Raced wide majority of race. Hung out near the 600m.
VICIOUS CHICK - Raced wide majority of race.
SILENT RESPONSE - Raced wide throughout. Subsequent to this race, trainer T. Cook advised stewards that the horse was found to be lame in the off foreleg. Mr Cook was advised he must provide a veterinary clearance for the filly prior to it racing again.
Race 3: SA & MJ Stevens Hay Supplies Class 3 Plate- 1100 metres
ICE MELODY - Began awkwardly and was crowded for room shortly after the start.
SNSITZEM - Shifted in of its own accord making contact with the running rail leaving the 600m.
FIRST RELEASE - Shifted out leaving the 100m to obtain clear running, making heavy contact with another runner. Rider R. McMahon was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
ABOVE US – Bumped heavily near the 100m.
HAYYLER'S DRAGON - Raced wide for the majority of the race.
KAPUTSK - Raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 4: Breast Cancer Fundraising @ Callaghan Park BM 65 Handicap - 1500 metres
MURTLE MISS - Began awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with the hind quarters of another runner.
WAY UP THERE- Began awkwardly and raced wide for the majority of the event.
CROCKETT'S MISTAKE - Bumped and became unbalanced at the start. Threw its head in the air and over-raced when being steadied near the 800m to avoid heels.
BONNAY FLYER - Steadied near the 800m.
VICOMTE - Shifted in near the 800m, causing tightening to other runners. Jockey B. Stewart was severely reprimanded and advised to be fully clear of runners when shifting ground.
Race 5: DC Motors Rockhampton Class 6 Plate- 1300 metres
DESERT PLAYBOY - Slow to begin.
NEDIYM'S QUEST - Steadied from heels near the 700m when over-racing. Checked to avoid heels shortly after passing the winning post.
IMBOSTERIA - Steadied when tightened for room approaching the winning post.
VANCOUVER GOLD - Shifted out causing another runner to check to avoid its heels shortly after passing the winning post. Rider M. McGillivray was reprimanded and advised to show greater care in similar circumstances.
BROWN DOUBT - Raced disappointingly. A veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 6: Ray White Rockhampton City BM 60 Handicap - 1050 metres
SWEET TABOO - Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide throughout.
STRATEGIC GLORY - Raced wide throughout.
ANGELS CROWN - Steadied near the 900m. Held up leaving the 500m until approaching the 200m. Crowded and steadied near the 200m.
PRIVATE CHAT - Steadied near the 800m when racing in restricted room. Finished at the tail of the field. Vetted and found to be sore in the near fore shoulder. Trainer M. Hassam advised stewards it would now be her intention to retire the gelding from racing, however was advised that should circumstances change, a veterinary clearance would need to be provided prior to racing again.
ROSELLA EAGLE - Stewards questioned K. Aho, in the presence of senior rider D. Simmons regarding her riding of the horse over the concluding stages. Miss Aho explained that her mount initially hung out near the 200m when placed under pressure and then when corrected commenced to hang in, crowding the running of ANGELS CROWN leaving the 100m and when hearing a call from her inside again corrected her mount approaching the winning post, she further explained that due to the racing manners of ROSELLA EAGLE she was unable to fully test her mount as she would have liked. Whilst stewards accepted the explanation tendered, they were also of the view that further riding tuition would be of benefit and would bring this matter to the attention of Racing Queensland Jockey advocate Mr Scriven.
Jockey Simmons advised stewards he would also assist apprentice K. Aho in going forward.
Race 7: Mark Bunt Menswear Open Handicap- 1100 metres
Correct weight was delayed when C. Pye, rider of the 2nd placegetter, SCHOORWIN, in the presence of trainer T. Button, requested to view the stewards patrol footage over the final 50m to ascertain if there was grounds to lodge a protest against CARMINE KING being declared the winner. Subsequently both parties declined to lodge a protest and correct weight was semaphored on the Judge's placing’s.
HATZIS - Slow to begin.
DUMUZI - Jumped in the air as the start was effected.
BESEECH - Raced wide.
CANNY SWIM - Raced wide.
M. Barnham, the rider of CANNY SWIM, was fined the sum of $100.00 in that he used the whip on more than five occasions in a forehand manner prior to the 100m.
VELONSKI - Inquiry into the disappointing performance. Jockey B. El-Issa stated that the gelding after beginning fairly and racing in its customary position back in the field, never travelled comfortably throughout the race and failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure leaving the 600m and proved disappointing. Trainer P. Pengelly informed stewards he was happy with the horse's lead up to today's race and was at a loss to explain the performance. He further undertook to advise stewards should anything come to his attention which may have had a bearing on today's performance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.
Race 8: Advanced Exhausts Class 1 Handicap – 1300 metres
SPOOKY MOO - Jumped outwards at the start, making contact with REDWIN, which lost ground.
STAMPEDE STRAP - C. McIver, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a), in that near the 1000m he permitted his mount to shift in, tightening the running of SLEEP ON IT, which in turn shifted in, tightening the running of EPICOZ, which had to be checked. WAFFLE, which was following, was also inconvenienced in this incident. C. McIver's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period covered by 2 meetings, to commence at midnight, 11 October 2014 and to expire at midnight, 19 October 2014.
STAMPEDE STRAP had to be restrained near the 900m when tightened for room by MYSTIC LAD, which when over-racing shifted in. Whilst stewards noted the racing manners of MYSTIC LAD, rider T. O'Hara was nevertheless advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
MUM SAID NO - Had to be restrained and alter course to avoid heels near the 500m.
STRONG TIL DAWN - Forced wider near the 500m.
MIGHTY SAVANNAH - Shifted out around heels near the 500m, causing interference. Apprentice S. Fawke was severely reprimanded.
