Race 1: XXXX Gold QTIS 3YO Handicap- 1100 metres
As no other apprentice was available, Taylor Williams was permitted to claim only 2.5 kilograms of her 3 kilogram claim.
RED BERETTA - Slow into stride.
OUR NEDDY - Jumped outwards and bumped at start.
JEWEL BANGLES - Bumped at start.
OUR NEDDY BOY - Lay in in the straight.
QUICK ASSAULT - Inquiry into performance. Rider A. Coome stated that the gelding had travelled well throughout however when placed under pressure from near the 500m failed to respond and proved disappointing. A veterinary examination revealed a poor post race recovery.
Race 2: Carly-Mae Pye Memorial Class 1 Handicap- 1100 metres
ZAHA EXPRESS - Stewards accepted the explanation for the late declaration of rider. Shifted out near the 600m and bumped another runner, which was taken out at that stage of the race.
IDOL FACTOR - Slow into stride. Leaving the 400m was awkwardly placed on heels until near the 300m when obtaining clear running.
MYSTIC LAD - Rider reported his mount was inclined to lay out throughout.
SHE’S GOT BEAUTY - Bumped at the 600m and forced outwards. Stewards inquired into tactics adopted by rider T. Williams. She stated that her instructions had been to begin well, balance up and attempt to occupy a forward position, and refrain from using the whip as connections were of the opinion the horse tends to resent use of the whip. Apprentice Williams added that after beginning well and applying some pressure in the early stages, she was obliged to travel wide. She added the filly failed to travel throughout in its usual manner. The explanation was noted.
Race 3: Stockland Rockhampton Spring Cup BM 65 Handicap- 1828 metres
JOHANNA’S OWN - A little slow to begin.
CROCKETT’S MISTAKE - Over raced in the early stages.
EL GALGO - Over raced in the early and middle stages.
LEO’S SPIRIT - Inquiry into the tactics adopted and the performance of the horse. Apprentice L. Attard stated he was instructed to take up a position back in the field, however from near the 600m when inclined to over race, was obliged to steady from heels when the pace of the race further slackened, following which the gelding continued to over race. He added he permitted the gelding to improve forward at the 900m to sit outside the leader; however it peaked on its run near the 300m. He believed these circumstances had been detrimental to its performance. It was also noted that the horse had not performed well over distances further than 1600m.
Race 4: Hahn 3.5 Maiden Plate- 1300 metres
PEZULA - The explanation tendered for the late declaration of rider was accepted.
HIS REDEMPTION - A little slow to begin.
DARK MATTER - A little slow to begin. Rider L. Attard was fined $200 for using his whip on more than 5 occasions in a forehand manner prior to the 100m and in consecutive strides. Following the race it was reported the horse had returned with a laceration to its off-side knee.
SINCHILLA - Broke down in the off fore fetlock near the 600m and was retired from the event. The horse was subsequently euthanased.
CRAIGLEA COOPER - Raced 3 wide throughout.
Race 5: Summer Bright BM 70 Handicap- 1100 metres
BAGGER BONES - Apprentice jockey T. Williams was fined $200 for failing to claim her allowance in this race and Race 1. Rider T. Williams reported she was concerned over concluding stages with the horse’s action. A post race veterinary examination revealed swelling to the deep superficial tendon in the off foreleg. No lameness was detected.
BRADY ‘N’ ME - A little slow to begin.
DARK ANGEL- A little slow to begin.
FIRST RELEASE - Began awkwardly.
Race 6: Bus to the Giddy Goat Class 3 Plate- 1300 metres
KAPUTSKI - A little slow to begin.
CRAIGLEA CARINA - A little slow to begin.
CRACOW - A little slow to begin.
VICOMTE - Shifted out under pressure from the 200m.
