STEWARDS REPORT ROCKHAMPTON JOCKEY CLUB – TUESDAY, 23 May 2017 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – SOFT (5)/ Upgraded to GOOD (4) RAIL – 6 METRES ENTIRE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – Mr L CollinsStewards –Mr G Meek, Mr B Nalder & Mr M Heath (Cadet)Clerk of Scales – Mr W WelburnJudge – Mr I Schultz (Races 1-6), Mr W Welburn (Race 6)Veterinarian- Dr A WilliamsSwab attendants – Mrs Z NewmanStarter- Mr C Matthews Race 1: USG Boral QTIS Two-Years-Old Handicap 1100m ALLROUND GLORY – Began awkwardly. JUSTALAD – Slow to begin. Retrospective to Race 1 the track rating was upgraded to GOOD 4. Race 2: Duggan Haulage Maiden Handicap 1200m LIGHT UP VEGAS – Raced ungenerously for a short distance after the start. Near the 300 metres, shifted out and ducked out further. NIGHTS ABLAZE – Ducked out after jumping away and contacted REFINED EXCITEMENT. Near 900 metres, was bumped by another runner and become unbalanced. REFINED EXCITEMENT – Jumped outwards at the start. Rider A. Coome reported his left foot made contact with the barriers. CELESTIAL SON – Began awkwardly. Near the 900m bumped twice with NIGHTS ABLAZE, which resulted in NIGHTS ABLAZE becoming unbalanced. Rider dropped and regained his whip over the concluding stages. MISS RICH – Over raced in the middle stages. Over the concluding stages raced in restricted room to the inside of CELESTIAL SON and had to be eased. Following this race, jockey A. Coome was stood down for the remainder of the day due to injury. Riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet. Race 3: HHH Partners QTIS Three-Years-Old Maiden Handicap 1050m CORNWALL COAST – The start of this race was delayed approximately 5 minutes when the horse was reluctant to proceed to the barriers with the tongue-tie applied. Jockey L. Attard reported that after being slow to begin the horse raced reluctantly with the tongue-tie today. Slow to begin, jumped outwards at the start and made contact with SUSON. SUSON – Bumped at the start. SCRIPTS – Began awkwardly and laid out for a short distance leaving the 400m. ROAD LESSTRAVELLED – Raced 3 wide without cover. Race 4: PKF Hacketts Winter Prov. Stayers Series (Heat) Benchmark 70 Handicap 1828m COLD BLOODED – As Jockey B. Grylls had missed her flight and was unable to arrive on course for this engagment, Jockey D. Evans was substituted as the rider of the horse. Slow into stride. FAST FELLA – Raced 3 wide in the early and middle stages. I CAN I WILL I AM – Trainer T. Cook reported the horse would be freshened up for a period of 6 weeks prior to its next race start. LUPO NERO – A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Race 5: Champ Resources Class 2 Handicap 1050m CELTIC SPELL – Apprentice B. Northdurft was substituted for B. Grylls as the rider of horse when no other senior rider was available. Made contact on jumping away. KING MAX – L. Attard was substituted for A. Coome as the rider of the horse. DANE CHEVAL – The explanation for the late declaration of M. Haley as the rider of the horse was accepted. Made contact on jumping away. Bumped near the 400m. ANGELS CROWN – Became fractious prior to the start and when the start was effected reared on jumping away. MIA HOST – Jumped inwards at the start and made contact with IMPERIAL ATTITUDE. Apprentice M. McGillivray reported his mount laid in in the straight under pressure. IMPERIAL ATTITUDE – Bumped at the start. Near the 900m raced ungenerously and when steadied unbalanced its rider. Raced 3 wide for the remainder of the race. CRAIGLEA PISTOL – Raced keenly in the middle stages and near the 700m was eased from the heels of KING MAX. Bumped near the 400m. MYSTIC FORCES – Near the 400m shifted out and took DANE CHEVAL out on to CRIAGLEA PISTOL. Apprentice Z. White, rider of MYSTIC FORCES, was advised to exercise more care. ARNHEM BEAUTY – Raced wide throughout. Race 6: Wendy Mulry Travel BenchMark 60 Handicap 1300m ONE GREY – L. Attard was substituted for A. Coome as the rider of the horse. Near the 900m eased when CODE ONE rolled in. STRATEGIC GLORY – M. Haley was substituted for B. Grylls as the rider of the horse. CODE ONE – The explanation for the late declaration of rider was accepted. Dwelt on jumping away. When questioned regarding the performance, apprentice B. Nothdurft stated that after being caught wide in the early stages, was restrained near the 900m in an attempt to gain cover however failed to travel for the remainder of the race and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. DUDOOMP – Slow to begin. NELAMOS – Slow to begin. RISE TO FAME – Jockey A. Butler reported that his mount hung out throughout. It was observed the horse shifted out under pressure in the straight.
