Matthews Race 1: ULTON CLASS 6 PLATE – 1400M ATARARTZI – Began awkwardly. Race 2: BP SOUTH ROCKHAMPTON CLASS 3 PLATE – 1600M CARDA MOJO – Shifted outwards shortly after the start. EXTRA COVER – A. Butler was fined $300 for the use of his whip on 10 occasions prior to the 100m. In determining penalty, stewards took into account the distance of the race and the totality of whip use. Race 3: SMW GROUP QTIS 3YO H'CAP – 1400M The start of this race was delayed when AUSSIE TYCOON, which was fractious in the barriers, was removed, underwent a veterinary inspection and passed to take its place in the field. SICARIO – Slow to begin. GESSNER – Hampered at the start and lost some ground. AUSSIE TYCOON – Jumped out at the start and hampered GESSNER. Race 4: DUGGAN LIVESTOCK & BULK HAULAGE/CQ LIFEBROKERS MAIDEN H'CAP – 1100M REFINED EXCITEMENT, which was fractious in the barriers and reared over, was declared a late scratching at 2:28 pm on veterinary advice that the horse was lame in the off hind leg. Trainer R. West was advised that the horse would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate before being permitted to race again. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on REFINED EXCITEMENT be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:1 cents in the dollar for the Win #81 cents in the dollar for place of winner #81 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #21 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #5 NATURAL TREASURE – Shifted ground at the start and made heavy contact with CZARIST. OUR BOY PENDLES – Bumped at the start. DIAGORAS – Steadied from the heels of CRAIGLEA COPPER near the 700m. CZARIST – Shifted ground at the start and made heavy contact with NATURAL TREASURE. MISS RICH – Raced ungenerously from the 800, and hung out near the 600m, taking STORM UP wider on the track. Jockey D. Hayse reported that the mare had resented the tongue tie, which was an addition today. Trainer A. Jones undertook to remove the tongue tie from the horse’s gear. On that basis, a warning was placed on the horse. STORM UP – Slow to begin. Taken wider on the track by another runner near the 600m. WICKATAQ – Slow to begin. CROSS QUESTION – Apprentice Z. White reported that her mount had begun well and while it had not been her intention to obtain a forward position, the horse was first up today and obtained it of its own accord. CRAIGLEA COPPER – A little slow to begin and made contact with OUR BOY PENDLES. Eased near the 700m when awkwardly placed on the heels of EIRE’S LEGACY EIRE’S LEGACY – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages and near the 900m was eased when CROSS QUESTION went forward. Following the event S. Sheargold (REFINED EXCITEMENT) was examined by the ambulance officers and passed to fulfil his remaining engagements. Race 5: SCOTTISH PACIFIC DEBTOR FINANCE CLASS 4 H'CAP – 1200M HELLUVA HOFFA – Began awkwardly. MACHO TYCOON Jumped away awkwardly and lost some ground. Race 6: RON FINEMORE TRANSPORT BENCHMARK 55 H'CAP – 1050M Prior to the declaration of correct weight A. Coome, the rider of 2nd placegetter MYSTYKO, viewed the photo finish image for 1st and was satisfied as to the Judge’s placings. WHITEHOUSE AFFAIR – Raced wide without cover throughout. MYSTYKO – Jumped awkwardly out and made contact with the barrier partition. Following the race jockey A. Coome reported that he had contacted the barrier with his left knee. Held up and had difficulty obtaining clear running from the 400m until near the 200m. Shifted in leaving the 200m and caused ISIS AMBER to be taken in and WORTH THE TIME to be eased. Jockey Coome was reprimanded and advised to use greater effort to prevent his mounts from shifting ground. ISIS AMBER – Taken in by another runner near the 200m. GIFT OF CHOICE – Jumped away awkwardly. BONINO – Raced three wide without cover. WORTH THE TIME – Eased near the 200m. Race 7: DLV FINANCE TATTERSALLS GOLD CUP OPEN H'CAP – 1600M MOTORISED – Bumped on the hind quarters near the 500m and became unbalanced. DECONSTRUCTED – Began awkwardly. Shifted out near the 500m and bumped the hind quarters of MOTORISED, which became unbalanced. Held up in the early stages of the straight. LEGAL PROCEDURE – Bumped with CHIVADAHLII on a number of occasions approaching the 400m and persevered for a run until near the 200m, where it obtained clear running, however was not fully tested. CHIVADAHLII – Began awkwardly. MAMSELLE CORDAY – Began awkwardly. Overraced in the early and middle stages. Jockey D. Evans was fined the sum of $400 for the use of his whip on 11 occasions prior to the 100m. In determining penalty, stewards considered the distance of the race, that the horse had advanced with runner that subsequently dead-heated for 2nd place, and the totality of whip use. FRENCH HUSSLER – Raced wide without cover throughout. CLEANSING ALE – Overraced for a short distance near the 1000m and had to be steadied from the heels of another runner. Raced wide with cover.
