Matthews Race 1: On Site Fleet Maintenance BM 75 Handicap- 1823 metres FIRST STIMULUS – Stewards questioned Apprentice S. Lacy and trainer A. Clark in relation to the tactics and performance of her mount. Apprentice Lacy stated that her instructions were to go forward if the horse began well, however it stood flat-footed and missed the start. She then attempted to stay one off the fence, but was unable to do so and the horse over-raced in the early and middle stages. Apprentice Lacy added that towards the home turn she managed to get to the outside and her mount sprinted only fairly. Mr Clark stated the instructions were to lead or to be outside the lead if possible. He did note that the horse had over-raced and was up in class and backing up from its win last week. Mr Clark added that he may engage a stronger rider in future. Stewards were aware that Apprentice Lacy was unable to improve her position from near the 1600m when racing to the inside of SPECIFIC CHOICE and had HALFBLOOD PRINCE positioned to her outside. Stewards noted the explanations of both parties. Trainer J. Manzelmann pleaded guilty to a charge under AR175(k) in that he had been negligent in saddling ARTIBAI and KNOWING ME when presented with the incorrect saddles. Mr Manzelmann was fined $500.
