Race 1: ROCKHAMPTON BUSINESS MACHINES QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1300M
 
CRAIGLEA MAGNUM Commenced to weaken from the 600m and proved uncompetitive from that point onwards. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer K. Johnston was advised that a warning would be placed against the gelding for being uncompetitive.
 
DANTIEN Began awkwardly.
 
ANNMARIE Hampered at the start.
 
Race 2: KENNAS CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS CLASS 6 PLATE 1500M
 
BEST CASE Slow to begin.
 
MACHO TYCOON Restrained shortly after the start to obtain cover behind I CAN I WILL I AM. The veterinary surgeon reported that the gelding had sustained a laceration to the near fore fetlock.
 
DOUBOS Stewards questioned rider D. Evans regarding his riding in the early stages of the home straight when I CAN I WILL I AM was able to shift out around the leaderrs heels and obtain clear running to his inside. Jockey Evans explained that rounding the home turn his mount was under pressure and he was unable to race in a tight position outside the leader as he would have liked. He added that when MONO LAD shifted in slightly, I CAN I WILL I AM was able to shift out when travelling strongly to secure clear running. Stewards, whilst noting jockey Evanss explanation, advised him that he would be expected to ride in a more competitive manner in similar circumstances.
 
Race 3: THE PAINT BARN PTY LTD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1050M
 
SERIOUS CAPER A post-race veterinary examination revealed the presence of mouth ulcers and also that the horse was displaying a cough. Trainer J. Wehlow was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to the horsees next start.
 
CALL ME KEV Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
 
MISS RICH Held up for a short distance upon entering the home straight and was obliged to alter course, and near the 500m had to be restrained away from the heels of CALL ME KEV which shifted out when not sufficiently clear. Apprentice Z. White, the rider of CALL ME KEV, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 500m she failed to make sufficient effort to prevent her mount shifting out, resulting in MISS RICH having to be restrained from her runnerrs heels. Ms Whitees licence to ride in races was suspended for 10 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 2 September and expire at midnight on Tuesday 12 September 2017. In determining penalty, stewards were of the view that the interference was in the low range, however were also mindful of apprentice Whitees recent poor riding record and her not guilty plea.
 
THE CHILD Overraced when being restrained to obtain cover in the early stages, however continued to overrace for a short distance and was caught racing wide.
 
Race 4: JET DRY CLEANERS OPEN HANDICAP 1300M
 
HEARTBREAK HARRY The veterinary surgeon reported that the gelding had sustained a laceration to the off hind leg consistent with being galloped on.
 
MOTORISED Raced wide throughout. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted and as to why he raced in a wide position throughout in a small field, jockey J. Stanley stated that he had no specific instructions and that after beginning on terms with the field he was of the view that the early tempo was only moderate and therefore attempted to improve into a forward position, however was unable to muster sufficient speed to do so. He added that he then attempted to obtain a position with cover but was unable to do so when runners to his inside had improved and as a result he was obliged to race three wide without cover.
 
EVENTIDE Slow to begin.
 
PRINCELY Began awkwardly.

Race 5:: PHIL PEEL JEWELLERS PTY LTD BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP
1300M
 
DUAN MAJOR Shifted in under pressure near the 200m and bumped MT ZIGGARO.
 
ATARARTZI Held up from leaving the 200m until approaching the 100m
 
NELAMOS Fractious in its barrier, then began awkwardly, losing ground.
 
MT ZIGGARO Began awkwardly. Commenced to overrace near the 1000m and did so until the 800m. Held up leaving the 500m until approaching the 400m. Bumped near the 200m. Rider D. Evans reported that after having a favourable run throughout despite overracing, once he was able to secure clear running near the 400m, the gelding failed to finish the race off as expected and proved disappointing.
 
Race 6: FREE VENUE HIRE AT CALLAGHAN PARK BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1500M
 
HYPER DRIVE Stewards accepted trainer T. Buttonns explanation for the late declaration of C. Whiteley as rider.
 
RESET EXPRESS Late scratching at 12:51 pm for veterinary reasons.
 
ELLE THE MODEL Slow to begin. S. Sheargold was fined the sum of $200 for failing to ride his mount out to the finish of the race. In determining penalty, stewards could not be satisfied that his actions had cost his mount 4th place.
 
LIGHTNING JACKSON Raced wide in the early stages before being allowed to improve forward to a position one off near the 1200m.
 
BANSHEE JET Slow to begin.
 
CRAIGLEA JABIRU Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
Race 7: XXXX GOLD CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1100M
 
ADARNI Raced wide throughout.
 
CHIEF ADVOCATE C. Whiteley reported that his mount hung out rounding the first turn and as a result raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
RESET OUR WORLD Due to being reinstated as the winner of the 0-55 Handicap at Rockhampton on 18 March 2016, the horse has been penalised 0.5 kg and will now carry 54.5 kg. Inconvenienced near the 800m when CHIEF ADVOCATE hung out.
 
CULPO Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide throughout. Inconvenienced near the 200m when RESET OUR WORLD shifted out whilst racing greenly.
