STEWARDS REPORT ROCKHAMPTON JOCKEY CLUB – SATURDAY 9 DECEMBER 2017 WEATHER – Overcast/Fine TRACK RATING – GOOD (4)RAIL – OUT 2.5 METRES ENTIRE. Matthews SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS Clermont 11 November 2017 BANSHEE JET- Trainer S Sigvart reported that the horse had been treated for soreness in a fetlock joint following this meeting. Rockhampton 28 November 2017 SUNRISE GLORY- Trainer K Hansen contacted Stewards and advised that the gelding had arthritic degeneration above the fetlock in the off hind leg. A bone chip was developing and bandages applied had placed pressure on it. The horse was now spelling and further x-rays would be undertaken if it returned to racing. Thangool 2 December 2017 MOUNTAIN FIRE- Trainer J O’Shea reported that no abnormalities had become apparent in the following days. He further advised that the wet track might have affected its performance, considering the significant break from racing. Race 1: Charlies Pest Control BM 70 Handicap- 1400 Metres AMADEO – Slow to begin. MAGIC SCENE – Slow to begin. SKY BROOK – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. When questioned regarding the performance of the horse, jockey W. D’Avila stated his mount may have held its breath for the majority of the race and was under pressure from the 400m and failed to respond to his riding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery. Race 2: Higgins Coatings BM 65 Handicap- 1811 Metres KHADIJA – As App Q. Krogh was not riding at the meeting, Jockey S. Sheargold was the replacement rider. Began awkwardly and was tightened between OPTION and HULK HENRY CHAIN THE GATE – As L. Dodds was to be 1 kilogram over the allotted weight (at his declared riding weight), apprentice D. Graham was substituted as the rider of the horse and permitted to ride 1/2 kilogram overweight (at her declared riding weight). OZEIN – Jockey W D’Avila requested his mount undergo a veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers and was found to be lame in the off foreleg. Subsequently, Stewards declared it a late scratching at 1.36 pm, with the following deductions applicable. 1 cent in the dollar on the face value of win bets 3 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets for the win14 cents in the dollar on the face value of 2nd place bets6 cents in the dollar on the face value of 3rd place bets Connections were advised that a veterinary certificate will be required for the horse prior to its next race start. HALFBLOOD PRINCE – Slow to begin. Rider apprentice E. Smith lost her whip inside the final 50m. OPTION – Near the 1400m over raced for a short distance. Held up momentarily near the 400m when CHAIN THE GATE rolled in. Race 3: Storage One Maiden Plate - 1100 Metres LIFE’S A WITCH- Declared a late scratching at 8.07 am when there was no available rider. LA JULIETTE – As jockey Q. Krogh was not riding at the meeting and no other rider being available, the horse was a late scratching at 8.25 am. UINSAIN – Slow to begin PLAYBOOK – Began awkwardly when the outside barrier partition sprung back. BIA TYCHE – Jumped outwards at the start. BRUTAL BABE – Jumped inwards and laid in at the start, causing HAMMERFEST and QUATRO AMIGOS to be tightened for room. When straightened, shifted out and hampered MAGNUS RULES. Raced wide without cover. MAGNUS RULES – Hampered at the start. HAMMERFEST – Tightened on jumping away. QUATRO AMIGOS – Tightened at the start. Near the 800m raced greenly and shifted ground and contacted EDGEROI GAMBLER, which had laid in, and then in the middle stages made contact on 2 further occasions. EDGEROI GAMBLER – Bumped near the 800m. Bumped again on 2 occasions in the middle stages. Raced wide without cover. Race 4: JP & DA Jenkins Pty Ltd QTIS 3YO BM 60 Handicap- 1050 Metres CIRCUIT JUDGE - L. Dodds was the replacement rider for the horse. Hung out in the middle stages. LYON’S MANE – D. Graham was the replacement rider for the horse. Slow to begin and was then hampered when DEL DIAVOLO jumped inwards. ARARRAC – Jumped in the air at the start and raced wide with no cover throughout. Leaving the 800m rolled in, placing HOURGLASS TIME in restricted room, however relieved the pressure as soon possible. HOURGLASS TIME – Placed in restricted room leaving the 800m and made contact with TUSCAN GAMBLER. ROCK’N’ROLL BOBBY – Jumped outwards at the start. Stewards will seek an explanation in regards to the performance of the horse. SECRET DRAGON – From the 900m hung out for a short distance, and then shifted in to be close to the running rail. Race 5: Capricorn Rewind Electrical Services BM 65 Handicap-1050 Metres OSSENHAGEN – Apprentice R. Payne was the replacement rider for the horse. Raced wide with no cover throughout. HUNCHA DUNCHA – Proved difficult to load. Began awkwardly and was slow to begin. CLARAGH – Jumped outwards at the start, making contact with ELJAY ATOM. ELJAY ATOM – Bumped at the start. CLOSE THE BEACHES – Slow to begin. ANNIE’S OUR HERO – Over the concluding stages shifted in under pressureRace 6: Patlaw Securities Class 1 Handicap-1200 Metres BANSHEE JET – As there was no other available rider close or at the allotted weight, the horse was declared a late scratching at 11.33 am. ROYAL TONE – Began awkwardly. Apprentice D. Graham pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137(b) in that she failed to ride her mount out to the end of the race. Apprentice Graham was fined $200. BOLD TRAVELLER – Raced wide without cover. KING RUSSELL – Jockey D. Simmons reported that his mount was inclined to hang in throughout. FREE DROP – On return to scale jockey J. Stanley reported his mount was able to be positioned well, however, when placed under pressure in the straight failed to respond and was disappointing. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Race 7: Kids Christmas At The Races- Tues 19 Dec Class 2 Handicap- 1400 metres RUSTY SCOOTER – Declared a late scratching at 12.09 pm due to no available rider. THE CATHOLIC GIRL - Declared a late scratching at 8.28 am due to no available rider. GLADISHING – Declared a late scratching at 4.02 pm due to no available rider. MISTY MONTANA – Declared a late scratching at 3.26 pm due to no available rider. LIGHT UP VEGAS– Proved difficult to load. SAN SEVERO – Began a little awkwardly. SHORTSPRESSO – Began awkwardly. Shortly after the running of this race, Trainer D. Rideout expressed concerns with regard to the riding of jockey M. Barnham. He stated that the horse was to be positioned midfield from the wide barrier and he was concerned with the lack of vigour over the concluding stages. Stewards sought an explanation from jockey Barnham with regards to the performance and confirmed his instructions were to be midfield. Jockey Barnham stated however the horse had missed the start slightly and was unable to go forward when DUANSKILL crossed in the early stages and rather than be caught wide he elected to come back, and near the 900m was able to be positioned one off the fence. From the 800m he added that the horse had made some ground, however changed stride in running. On straightening, Jockey Barnham placed the horse under some pressure and it failed to respond. He further stated that on pulling up he had concerns with the breathing of the horse. A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be lame in the near fore and had a slow post-race recovery. A veterinary certificate will be required prior to the horse’s next race start. CRIMSON GOD – Slow to begin and took up a position close to the inside running rail. DUANSKILL – Raced wide with no cover throughout. MOSS PRINCESS – Raced wide with cover.
