Race 1: XXXX Gold Maiden Plate 1050m
 
CORNFORTH – The trainer advised that the horse had undergone a tieback operation since its last start. Public announcements were made to that effect.
 
TOORAK RUBY – Jumped outwards at the start, hampering IT’S DRY.  Shifted in near the 700m, causing CALZAGHE PRINCE to be awkward on its heels for a short distance.  Apprentice R. Goldsbury, rider of TOORAK RUBY, was advised to exercise more care.
 
IT’S DRY – Hampered at the start. Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
CALZAGHE PRINCE – Became awkward on heels near the 700m.
 
FAY ELEMENT – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
MISS SCHIFFER – Slow to begin and jumped out, making contact with the barrier partition.
 
SOUTHERN SPECIAL – Stewards questioned apprentice Z. White with regard to her riding in the early stages of the straight when a run was available to the inside of CALZAGHE PRINCE.  In her opinion, prior to straightening the horse had changed stride and was unbalanced around the home turn and in the early stages of the straight and she had difficulty in getting the horse to advance into that run until near the 300m. Given the placings of the race and the way in which the horse had finished off, Stewards noted her explanation.
 
 
 
Race 2: Winter Racing Carnival 2018 Benchmark 60 Handicap 1828m
 
LET ME SAY THIS – Slow into stride.
 
OAKFIELD MIDNIGHT –Had competed at Thangool on Sunday, 26 May, finished 2nd of 7 in  a Benchmark 60 over 1600m, beaten half a length. Public announcements were made to that effect. 
 
AIRLIE REWARD – When questioned regarding the performance, jockey B. Pengelly stated that the horse had felt well, however had raced keenly in the early stages, and he commenced to place his mount under pressure near the 600m, however on straightening the horse failed to respond and proved disappointing. Jockey Pengelly stated that the horse may not have appreciated the firmer track surface.  A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
PERSISTENT SHADOW – When questioned regarding the performance of the horse, apprentice L. Dodds stated that the increase in distance from its previous start and that it had not raced for 5 weeks had contributed to its performance. He added it had been under pressure on straightening and failed to respond. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
Race 3: Girls Grammar Rockhampton Raceday QTIS Two-Years-Old Maiden Handicap 1200m
 
KATIE’S GIRL – Was presented with winkers, which was not part of its approved gear. Stewards permitted the horse to wear such gear and public announcements were made to that effect.  Trainer J. McConachy was fined $200 for failing to enact a gear change by the required time.   Raced wide without cover.
 
MYSTERY ELEMENT – Slow to begin. Shifted out and away from SAY PLEASE and made contact with SERIOUS CRIME near the 200m.
 
SAY PLEASE – Jumped in onto TYCOON PLAYER at the start. Shifted out near the 200m.
 
TYCOON PLAYER – Bumped at the start. Over raced and race ungenerously in the early and middle stages.
 
CRAIGLEA ZED – Began awkwardly.
 
AMRON – Slow to begin.
 
SERIOUS CRIME – Slow to begin and made contact with TOY MEEKA.
 
TOY MEEKA – Bumped at the start.  Raced wide without cover.
 
OUR TOP SHELF – Laid out from the 200m, proving difficult for jockey T. Chambers in riding out.
 
SUJANI - Laid in for the majority of the straight. Rider suggested to connections to add winkers or blinkers for its next start.
 
Race 4: Hahn 3.5 QTIS Three-Years-Old Maiden Handicap 1100m
 
GAP THE FIELD – Trainer advised that the horse would be ridden in a midfield or rear position if circumstances allow. Public announcements were made to that effect.   Began fairly.  Bumped with KATANDRA shortly after the start. Unable to be ridden in the midfield or rear position and was positioned handy-midfield. Raced 3 wide without cover.
 
DUAN NYMPH – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
DAUNTING QUEEN – Slow to begin.
 
KATANDRA – Bumped shortly after the start.  Raced wide with cover.
 
REPLACEMENT – Shifted in near the 900m, resulting in NOW ASK ME having to be steadied. Jockey J. Stanley, rider of REPLACEMENT, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground. Jockey J. Stanley reported his mount was inclined to lay out in the straight and continued to do so, and for that reason he did not place the horse under further pressure.
 
NOW ASK ME – Steadied near the 900m.
 
TOY BOY BLING – Hung out in the middle stages.
 
CIRCUIT JUDGE – Laid in for the majority of the straight.
 
GRAM PASO – Rider reported the gelding laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
RAINBOW SNIP – Raced wide with cover.
 
HIDDEN SPEED – Race wide without cover.
 
Race 5: Summer Bright Class 1 Handicap 1200m
 
BAUHINIA DRUM – Hung out in the middle stages.
 
PLAIN ‘N’ SIMPLE – Slow into stride.
 
CORNISH TALES – Held up momentarily near the 300m between BRUTAL BABE and ECKER ROAD.
 
CASSAVANCE – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
ECKER ROAD – Raced wide without cover throughout. Jockey Pengelly reported at scale he was disappointed with the horse’s performance, however could offer no explanation other than it had to work forward from the wide barrier. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be exhibiting a slow post-race recovery.
FREE DROP – Raced wide with cover.
 
Race 6: Hahn 3.5 Class 6 Plate 1050m
 
MISTA BUSY – Slow to begin.
 
RAGAZZO DEL CORSA – Jumped inwards at the start, contacting the near-hind quarters of SKY BROOK, which became unbalanced.
 
SKY BROOK – Bumped and became unbalanced at the start.
 
HUNCHA DUNCHA – Slow to begin. Bumped on 2 occasions in the early stages of the straight with SECURITY BELLE. 
 
MYSTIC LAD – Began awkwardly.
 
SUPREME JET – Raced wide with cover.
 
SECURTY BELLE – In the early stages of the straight bumped on 2 occasions with HUNCHA DUNCHA.   Raced wide with cover.
 
ROOI ROE – Trainer reported that following its previous start it was found to have a stone bruise, which received treatment and corrective shoeing.  Public announcements were made to that effect. Raced 3 wide without cover.
 
Race 7: Iron Jack BenchMark 55 Handicap 1400m
 
CHEEKY STAR – Made heavy contact on jumping away and became unbalanced.
 
CRAIGLEA SIMMO – Made heavy contact on jumping away and became unbalanced.
 
CHIEF ADVOCATE – Slow to begin.
 
GAMBIT – Slow to begin.
 
MURDARESS – Jockey R. Wiggins reported his mount may need further distance than today’s event.
 
THAT’S HER I THINK – Raced wide without cover.
 
ROUGISSANTE – Raced wide with cover.
