Stewards conducted a routine stable inspection of trainer T. Button’s on course stables on Thursday, 5 July to inspect runners over the Friday and Saturday race meetings. Mr Button advised that a number of horses were located at an alternative stable address. Subsequently, those horses were inspected at that address with no incidents reported. Trainer T. Button was made aware of the requirements of AR 80(f), and that he had immediately taken steps to comply with this rule.

Race 1: Condon Financial BM 65 Handicap- 2207 metres

ISLAND SUNSET- Over raced from the 1300m, and from the 1000m was inclined to lay in during the middle stages.

KUTTAMURRA AL – Stewards inquired into the riding and performance of the horse. Apprentice L Dodds stated his instructions were to be at the rear of the field and to balance up where the horse was comfortable. He stated that the horse had raced keenly in the early stages and settled near the 1600m. He further stated that from the 800m he placed the horse under pressure and it had failed to respond to his riding, which he attributed to the increase in its handicapped weight from its previous win, the weight impost today and the track surface. Trainer L. Hatch stated he was not overly satisfied in App. L Dodd’s ride, however was aware of his inexperience and the weight carried on this occasion. Mr Hatch explained the instructions were to be at the rear of the field, however not as far from the remainder of the field. Mr Hatch was of the opinion that apprentice Dodds had erred in not maintaining a position closer to the field.  Stewards agreed with this assessment in that App L Dodds had erred in not maintaining or attempting to maintain a position at the rear of the field, however were mindful of the circumstances of this incident and would refer this to the Racing Queensland Training Department. A post-race veterinary inspection of KUTTAMURRA AL revealed a mild case of the thumps, however the horse had recovered well post-race. Stewards will follow-up with Mr Hatch in the coming days.

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, trainer B. Currie and jockey B. After taking evidence from all parties, stewards established that MAMSELLE CORDAY had shifted out and caused CANTBUYBETTER to be impeded to a minor degree.
