SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
 
Rockhampton 27/11/18 Race 4 – LIKE ‘EM SASSY
 
Trainer L Applewaite advised stewards that she would experiment with the use of a tongue control bit.
 
 
GENERAL
 
The following runners were declared late scratchings due to no rider being available.
 
Race 4.         Uinsain, Mystery Element, Annmarie
Race 5.         Van Winkel, Free Drop
Race 6.         Tambo’s Heart, Intimate Kingdom
 
 
Race 1: Patlaw Securities Pty Ltd BenchMark 65 Handicap 1600m
 
SOUTHERN ALBATROSS – Slow to begin. Rider lost the use of her near-side rein near the 200m for a short distance.
 
MISHNAH – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
NO EFFORT NEEDED – Passing the 400m bumped by EXTRA COVER, which shifted in when bumped by MISHNAH, which shifted in under pressure.
 
EXTRA COVER – Bumped passing the 400m.
 
 
Race 2: Capricorn Rewind Electrical Pty Ltd QTIS three-Years-old Maiden Handicap 1050m
 
SUJANI – Bounded at the start and lost ground. Awkwardly placed at heels near the 400m and had to be steadied.
 
TRACY’S ECHO – Steadied away from the heels of LITTLE MO over the concluding stages, Jockey N. Summers, rider of LITTLE MO, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Raced greenly when racing in the lead during the early and middle stages. Trainer K. Smyth reported that the gelding returned with minor abrasions to its mouth, and advised he would experiment with a crossover noseband in future.
 
HOT CHOCOLATE – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider L. Tilley stated that after having a favourable run during the early and middle stages, the gelding commenced to overrace near the 700m and had to be restrained from heels.  He added from that point the gelding failed to respond to his riding as expected and proved disappointing. Trainer L. Rowe stated that he was not overly disappointed in the performance as the gelding was first up today and would take a fitness benefit from today’s race. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
 
MISSGOODYTWOSHOES – Raced 3 wide with cover for the majority of the event.
 
STORMINA – Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority of the event.
 
 
Race 3: JP & DA Jenkins Pty Ltd Class 1 Handicap 1400m
 
JAZZANCO – Change of tactics. Connections advised the horse would be ridden further forward today. The mare was ridden accordingly. When entering the home straight had to be steadied away from the heels of MAGIC’S BIG SECRET, which shifted out to obtain clear running when not fully clear, Jockey C. McIver, rider of  MAGIC’S BIG SECRET, was issued with a reprimand.
 
GLADISHING - Began awkwardly. Jockey M. Stephens was fined $100 for excessive use of his whip.
 
CAUSE HAVOC – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout the event.
 
MAGIC’S BIG SECRET – Commenced to overrace near the 1100m and continued to do so for some distance.  When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance, trainer Corey McIver explained that the gelding was having its second start for the stable after running first up over an unsuitable distance. He added that the step up in distance as well as a drop in class, were all contributing factors in the improved performance. Stewards noted his comments.
 
ROYAL RECEIVER – When the pace slackened near the 900m improved onto heels and had to be restrained.
 
SHADEA LADY – Steadied near the 700m when placed in restricted room and lost ground.
 
WHOOSH – Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority of the event.
 
SCOTTISH LAD – Jockey J. Stanley reported to stewards that after beginning only fairly the gelding failed to muster speed in the early stages and as a result settled further back than he had anticipated. He added that when he placed his mount under pressure in the home straight it failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing.
 
 
Race 4: Storage One Maiden Plate 1300m
 
MYSTERY ELEMENT – Declared a late scratching at 11am due to no rider being available.
 
UINSAIN - Declared a late scratching at 11:10am due to no rider being available.
 
ANNMARIE – Declared a late scratching at 12:30pm due to no rider being available.
 
 
MISS DE MIRAGE – Hampered at the start. Held up from the 500m until the 300m.
 
NO SHENANIGANS – Began awkwardly.
 
NATIVE BEE – Had to be steadied approaching the 900m when tightened for room.
 
CRIAGLEA MAGNUM – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout the event.
 
TINARAU MAUBOY – Raced wide throughout the event.
 
THE GROGFATHER – Raced wide throughout the event.
 
Stewards opened an inquiry into the reasons for SAY PLEASE and RECONIS falling shortly after passing the winning post. Evidence was taken from the riders in the vicinity, and the matter was adjourned to allow jockey M. Milford to be present after he was transported to hospital. 
 
 
Race 5: Happy 80th Peter Hoffman/Nick Daley Plumbing Class 1 Handicap 1100m
 
FREE DROP – Declared a late scratching at 4.09 pm due to M. Milford being injured in Race 4 and transported to hospital and no other rider being available. As on course betting on this event had not commenced, no deductions were applicable.
 
VAN WINKEL – Declared a late scratching 4.23 pm after jockey M. Summers was examined by QAS officers and subsequently stood down by stewards and no other rider being available.
 
Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on the horses were ordered to be refunded, with the following deductions applicable:
 
No. 12 - Equal 1st Brandy Balloon:          8 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets
17 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets
 
 
No. 4 - Equal 1st Maeve In Manhattan:   10 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets
13 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets
 
No. 1 - 3rd placegetter Sirius Black:       5 cents in the dollar on the face value of third place bets
 
HIMALAYAN SALT – Blundered at the start.
 
MR ATTITUDE – Raced wide in the early stages before improving forward.
 
MAUVE IN MANHATTAN – Raced wide throughout the event.
 
DUANSKILL – Held up from the 400m until leaving the 150m.
 
JABROOK – Trainer T. Cook reported that the mare was found to have bled from both nostrils.  He advised that JABROOK would now be retired from his stable. Stewards advised Mr Cook that a 3 month bar would now be imposed on the mare.
 
 
Race 6: Dooley and Bryant BenchMark 75 Handicap 1200m  
 
 
The start of this race was delayed approximately 3 minutes.
 
 
TAMBO’S HEART – Declared a late scratching at 4.26 pm due to no rider being available.
 
INTIMATE KINGDOM – Declared a late scratching at 4.26 pm as rider M. Milford had be transported to hospital and no replacement rider was available.
 
UTHRED – Stood flatfooted losing considerable ground and took no competitive part in the event. Trainer T. Button was advised that the gelding would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate and would also be required to pass an official trial prior to being permitted to race again.
 
BARACHIEL – Steadied from the heels of MYSTIC FORCES near the 900m after that runner commenced to overrace and shifted out. Jockey R. Payne, rider of MYSTIC FORCES was advised to exercise more care.
 
ALL EEZ – Had difficulty obtaining clear running from the 400m until passing the 200m.
 
JAY JAY – Had to be eased when approaching the winning post when placed in restricted room.
