Race 1: Patlaw Securities QTIS 2yo H’cap – 1100m \WOOHOO GIRL – Declared a late scratching at 2.35 pm when the horse arrived at the barriers with blood in its off-side nostril. Subsequent to the event all monies invested on the horse were ordered to be refunded, with the following deductions applicable. 20 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets17 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets for the place18 cents in the dollar on the face value of 2nd place bets Connections were advised that the horse must perform a 1000m gallop before stewards prior to starting again. CRAIGLEA HARVEY – Which jumped away awkwardly was significantly tightened for room and had to be checked. Tightened for room near the 700m and was steadied. MAD IRISH TYCOON – Jumped away awkwardly made contact with another runner and blundered. CRIAGLEA BARON – Overraced in the early stages. CRIAGLEA LUKE - Laid in for the majority of the event, hampering another runner near the 700m. A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be sore in the near foreleg. Connections were advised that a veterinary certificate must be supplied for the horse prior to its next race start. Race 2: Great Keppel Island Hideaway Maiden Plate – 1200m FIZGIG – The start of this race was delayed when the horse became fractious in the barriers, having to be removed from the gates along with GISELLE, which was in the adjoining stall. Following a veterinary examination , FIZGIG was declared a late scratching at 3.12 pm with the following deductions applicable. 9 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets10 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets for the place9 cents in the dollar on the face value of 2nd place bets12 cents in the dollar on the face value of 3rd place bets Trainer S. Rundle was advised that he must obtain a further barrier test certificate for FIZGIG prior to its next race start. A veterinary examination of GISELLE cleared the horse to take its place in the field. GISELLE – Slow to begin. Steadied from heels near the 700m. CHEAPY CHICK - Began awkwardly. Overraced in the early stages. UINSAIN – Made the home turn awkwardly and was steadied form heels as a result. ANNMARIE – Obliged to race wide. CRAIGLEA MAGNUM – Obliged to race wide. KUNGA GEORGE MUNGA – Stewards asked jockey D. Evans to comment on the performance of the horse. He indicated that after beginning awkwardly and shifting out, his mount clipped heels and blundered, losing significant ground. He added that in the middle stages the horse raced greenly and he was obliged to place pressure on it in order to remain in touch with the main body of the field. He indicated the horse would take benefit from today’s race and would appreciate a step up in distance as it was was doing its best work over the final 200m. Race 3: NAB Business QTIS 3yo H’cap – 1200m CHANAMARO – Slow to begin. CRIAGLEA GALIP – Slow to begin. RUBY GEORGIE – Slow to begin. STREAMLINER – Placed in restricted room near the 850m and was obliged to steady. ATTIQUE – Raced wide. SYNONYMS – Raced wide. TYCOON PLAYER – Raced wide. LAST CHANCE – Inconvenienced by another runner passing the 600m. CRAIGLEA ELLA – Broke down in the near foreleg near the 100m and was examined by the veterinary surgeon and euthanised on humane grounds. Urine and blood samples were taken from the filly post mortem. Race 4: Wendy Mulry Travel Ratings Band 0-60 H’cap – 1600m GLADISHING – Slow to begin. WEAR THE FOX HAT – Slow to begin. Jockey B. Pengelly was asked to comment on the performance of the horse, which was below market expectations. He indicated that his mount was slow to begin and did not travel comfortably at any stage of the event and was very disappointing in the run to the line. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer T. Cooke advised stewards that in light of today’s performance the horse would be sent for a spell. SOUTHERN ALBATROSS – Overraced in the lead. Jockey Day reported that as the horse previously had been slow to begin he rode vigorously in the early stages and indicated that this caused his mount to then overrace, which had an effect on its overall performance. HULK HENRY – Was awkward on jumping away. STYLISH LUCK – Jockey L. Tilley was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip. MAGIC’S BIG SECRET – Jockey C. McIver was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip. TANG DYNASTY – Lost its off fore plate in running. Race 5: XXXX Gold Benchmark 75 H’cap - 1400m CRAIGLEA POSTOL – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. DURIF – Slow to begin. ARTIE’S SHORE – Slow to begin. Overraced in the early and middle stages. MUSTARRID – Raced wide in the early stages. JACK LANCASTER – Overraced in the early stages. Whilst weakening was steadied when placed in restricted room near the 200m. DON’T WE LOVE IT – Was obliged to steady when placed in restricted room near the 200m. TOP RAVINE – A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be lame in the near foreleg. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to the horse’s next race start. Race 6: Rocky Racing – Saturday 29 December Open H’cap – 1100m SPORTING PAGE - The start of this race was delayed when the horse was having a stallion chain fitted behind the barriers and it became fractious and the bridle was removed. Held up rounding the home turn. CLOSE THE BEACHES – Slow to begin. Hung out near the 900m and was steadied from heels. Trainer M. Attard advised stewards that the horse would now be retired from racing. OSSENHAGEN – Raced wide throughout. MAMSELLE CORDAY – Rider L. Tilley reported to stewards that from the horse’s wide alley he had been instructed to obtain cover and not to be wide on the track. As a result he was obliged to steady further back in the field than he would have liked in order to obtain a position closer to the fence. He added that the horse, in his opinion, performed better in races over longer distances. Race 7: Merry Christmas From Everyone At The RJC Class 2 Plate – 1200m Prior to correct weight being declared, stewards inquired into the circumstances surrounding Brad Pengelly weighing in in excess of half a kilogram underweight on THE SHEEPISH LION. Stewards were satisfied that the horse had carried in excess of half a kilogram underweight, and acting under AR143(a) disqualified THE SHEEPISH LION from this event. At a subsequent inquiry jockey Pengelly pleaded guilty to a charge under AR143(b), in that he had returned to scale in excess of half a kilogram underweight and was fined the sum of $300. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account jockey Pengelly’s guilty plea, good record and circumstances in that THE SHEEPISH LION had not run a placing in the event. TIME OUT – Slow to begin. Was disappointed for a run near the 500m and had to be steadied. FREE DROP – Slow to begin. Overraced in the early stages. HIDDEN GODDESS – Jumped away awkwardly. MR PHENOMENAL – Overraced in the early stages. Had difficulty securing clear running near the 200m and was obliged to shift out around heels to obtain clear running. VAN WINKEL – Overraced and had to be steadied from heels near the 900m before shifting wider on the track and raced wide throughout. CSARDAS – Raced wide without cover.
