Race 3: Cranstons Pies Open H’cap – 1100m Prior to the running of this race event stewards interviewed a delegation of riders after concerns were raised as to the relative temperature and humidity. The riders that were interviewed were all satisfied that conditions were satisfactory to continue with the race meeting. MISTA BUSY – Jumped very awkwardly and lost significant ground. MISHANI WRANGLER – Stewards inquired into apprentice A. Thomson’s handling of the horse. Of particular concern were his actions in shifting wider on the track and settling in a 3-wide position outside the lead when passing the 800m when it appeared he had opportunity to settle in a position one off the fence following BOLD ENDEAVOUR. Evidence was taken from trainer B. Currie and apprentice Thomson. Apprentice Thompson explained that after being somewhat slow to being he rode aggressively out of the barriers and when nearing the heels of BOLD ENDEAVOUR shifted out and improved in a 3-wide position. When asked to explain why he had taken this action he felt that after he had been instructed to be in a forward position this was his best option to be closer to the lead. Stewards advised apprentice Thomson he had erred in the early stages and that he should have made greater effort to steady his mount and take up this trailing position behind BOLD ENDEAVOUR when that was a reasonable option open to him at that point of the event. However stewards took no further action due to apprentice Thompson’s inexperience as an apprentice, having held a provincial licence for approximately 3 months. Apprentice Thompson was advised that the Queensland Training Department would be made aware of this ride. Race 4: South Geldard Lawyers QTIS 3yo Maiden H’cap – 1100m BEYONCNEIGH – Declared a late scratching at 11.56 pm due to no suitable rider being available. FALVERA – Began awkwardly. KINGS COUNTRY – Began awkwardly, coming into contact with another runner. SINEH LABORAE – Bumped by another runner on jumping. Raced wide without cover. A post race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the nearside hock. SERIOUS CRIME – Slow to begin. Tightened for room and steadied near the 700m. Held up from the 250m until the 50m. MISS FLAWLESS – Slow to begin. Steadied when placed in restricted room near the 800m. Blundered badly after clipping heels near the 500m. After stewards inquired into this incident it was found that apprentice T. Doyle, rider of MISS FLAWLESS, had demonstrated a lack of care in that he had placed pressure on his mount when no clear running was afforded to him and this caused the horse to clip heels and blunder. Stewards, being mindful of apprentice Doyle’s relative inexperience having only been recently granted a provincial licence, reprimanded apprentice Doyle for his actions. This ride was brought to the attention of the Racing Queensland Training Department. BOLD ENCHANTMENT – Jockey R. Wiggins was questioned regarding his tactics after passing the 600m where it appeared he had opportunity to shift wider on the track around the heels of LADY BEC, which would have afforded him clear running in the home straight. He explained he had given consideration to this manoeuvre, however at this point forward of him in the event apprentice T. Doyle, rider of MISS FLAWLESS, had suffered significant interference and he therefore elected to shift back to the inside in an attempt to avoid being interfered with also. Stewards reviewed the patrol video with jockey Wiggins and accepted the explanation tendered. It was noted that in shifting back to the inside this resulted in jockey Wiggins having some difficulty securing clear running in the final 100m. Race 5: Swarv Menswear Benchmark 55 H’cap – 1050m OVERGROWN – Tightened for room at the start and was eased. BAUHINIA DRUM – Jumped awkwardly and made contact with another runner. MUSTARRID – Significantly slow to begin. Raced wide until the 700m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey A. Butler reported that it had been his intention to ride his mount in a more forward position, however when the horse was slow to begin he elected to settle at the tail of the field. MISHNAH – Significantly slow to begin. DARTS AWAY – Slow to begin. RUFFY ROAD – Overraced in the early stages. DAMN FINE – Raced wide without cover.
