Race 2: TAB QTIS Two-Years-Old Maiden Handicap 1050m

The start of this race was delayed when several runners proved difficult to load.

Correct weight was delayed to allow stewards to view footage of the start to ascertain whether SIR SKYWALKER was denied a fair start. After viewing the stewards’ footage it was established that apprentice E. Smith did not have both feet in the irons or full control of her reins, and as such stewards were satisfied that the gelding was denied a fair start and therefore  declared SIR SKYWAKER a non-runner under the provisions of AR204(1)(c) at 1.45 pm. Subsequently stewards ordered all monies invested on the horse to be refunded with the following deductions applicable.

2 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets
3 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets for the place
3 cents in the dollar on the face value of 2nd place bets

Stewards in noting her explanation advised apprentice Savva that in similar circumstances it may have been a better option for her to have pressed forward and obtain the position outside the leader to give the gelding a more favourable run throughout the event.
