QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT ROCKHAMPTON JOCKEY CLUB – SATURDAY 13 APRIL 2019 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – GOOD 4 RAIL – TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – N. Hanson GENERAL After being advised by jockey C. McIver that he had been declared as the rider of GUISSOLA (Race 5) and RIO ROSIE (Race 7) and then had been replaced on those runners by L. Tilley and B. El-Issa respectively, stewards inquired into the matter. After hearing evidence from jockey McIver, his manager Ms A Wright, and the trainer of both horses, Mr G. Green, stewards established that jockey McIver had firm bookings for the two rides and accordingly, acting under the provisions of LR52(1), ordered that Mr Green pay jockey McIver the losing riding fee for both runners as well as any percentages earned from prizemoney for today’s races. ******** Stewards inquired into an incident that took place between jockeys Andrew Spinks and Bobby El-Issa in the saddling enclosure and scales area following the running of Race 6. Evidence was taken from both jockeys Spinks and El-Issa as well as the Chairman of Stewards Mr Neil Boyle, Rockhampton Jockey Club President Mr Rob Carr and jockey manager Ms Shannon Williams. Stewards subsequently charged jockey Andrew Spinks under Rule 228(b) in that following the running of Race 6 in the vicinity of the saddling enclosure he engaged in improper conduct in that he forcibly pushed jockey B. El-Issa in the shoulder region. Jockey Spinks pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined the sum of $500. In arriving at penalty, stewards took into account the degree of physical contact from A. Spinks, his remorse and his good record under this rule over a long period of time. Stewards also charged jockey B. El-Issa under Rule 228(b) in that following the running of Race 6 in the vicinity of the scales area he engaged in improper conduct in that he forcibly struck jockey Andrew Spinks in the back of the head with his race riding helmet. Jockey El-Issa pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined the sum of $1000. In arriving at penalty, stewards took into account the degree of physical force applied by jockey B. El-Issa, his remorse and his good record under this rule over a long period of time. Both A. Spinks and B. El-Issa were advised of their rights to an internal review. Race 1: RUM CITY FOODS CLASS 2 PLATE – 1200M Stewards accepted trainer R. Vale’s explanation for the late scratching of DELAGO EDITION at 7:44 am. As M. Savva was riding at another venue, stewards permitted T. Doyle to replace her as the rider of CSARDAS. ALL PICKLED – Raced three wide without cover. AUSSIE TYCOON – Slow to begin. CSARDAS – Slow to begin. Raced three wide with cover. T. Doyle accidentally dropped his whip passing the 150m. ART SHE QUICK – Raced three wide with cover. L. Tilley dropped his whip passing the 300m. Laid in under pressure over the final 200m. Race 2: ONSITE FLEET MAINTENANCE MAIDEN H’CAP – 1050M HIGHLY INFLUENTIAL – Bumped on jumping. ELITE ENCOUNTER – Slow to begin. Raced three wide without cover. Hung out after passing the 800m. Raced greenly in the home straight. Laid in when placed under pressure passing the 300m. YASHODA – After being in a prominent position for the majority of the event, commenced to weaken passing the 400m and after passing the 200m rider R. Wiggins desisted from riding his mount as he felt something may be amiss with the mare. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the off fore knee. Trainer J. Wehlow was advised that the mare would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. PAINTER’S REWARD – Slow to begin. Laid out in the early stages of the home straight. STYLE LINE – Bumped on jumping. Race 3: SCOTTISH PACIFIC BUSINESS FINANCE BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 1600M The start of this race was delayed to allow for an interstate event. Jockey B. Pengelly made application to the stewards to be released from his engagement on LIKE ’EM SASSY as he wished to have further time to ensure he made the weight for his ride in Race 4. As trainer L. Applewaite had no objection to releasing jockey Pengelly from his engagement, stewards acceded to his request and permitted B. El-Issa to replace him as the rider of LIKE ’EM SASSY. PORTSEA – Forced wider rounding the home turn by LITTLE HUNTER, which had been taken wider by GLADISHING, which shifted out to improve. MAC’S METTLE – Slow to begin. KALANGADOO CHROME – Slow to begin. SHE SALUTES – Apprentice M. Wishart was fined $300 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. GLADISHING – M. Stephens was fined $200 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. THAT’S ENOUGH – Had to be steadied passing the 1100m when the pace slackened. Race 4: ULTON CAPRICORNIA YEARLING SALE CHAMPIONSHIP QTIS 3YO & 4YO H’CAP – 1300M The start of this race was delayed when DIAMOND ACCOUNT had to be resaddled after arriving at the barriers. EMSIE IS A STAR – Bounded slightly as the start was effected and lost ground. After racing in a prominent position the mare failed to respond when placed under pressure upon straightening. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be showing signs of a respiratory infection. Trainer D. Vandyke undertook to advise stewards of the results of veterinary tests he intends to have carried out on the mare in coming days. WICKED EXPRESS – Had to be steadied passing the 900m. NORTHERN DRAGON – Slow to begin. Apprentice M. Wishart was fined $300 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. Race 5: MAYORS CUP OPEN H’CAP – 1200M Trainer P. Burke was fined the sum of $100 for failing to declare D. Evans as the rider of HELLUVA HOFFA by the prescribed time. The start of this race was delayed when GYPSY SECRET, after being loaded into the barriers, became fractions, reared, was removed, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start. GUISSOLA, which was in the adjoining barrier, was also removed, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start. MR MARKOU – Slow to begin. GYPSY SECRET – Raced three wide with cover. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be showing signs of tying up and was subsequently treated by the on-course veterinarian before travelling home. MUSIC SCENE – Blundered shortly after the start and lost ground. GUISSOLA – Raced three wide without cover. Race 6: CENTRAL QLD EQUIPMENT & SMW GROUP 2019 CAPRICORNIA YEARLING SALE CLASSIC QTIS 2YO PLATE – 1200M TYCOON FLYER – Raced three wide with cover. HEZHOME – Raced three wide without cover. D. Griffin was fined $300 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. JELVISS – Tightened for room on jumping. ROCKY POET – Began awkwardly. THE SINNER – Jumped outwards at the start. Raced three wide with cover. THE STOCKBROKER – Raced three wide with cover. FLYING CRACKERJACK – Began awkwardly and shifted out. BANTU BAY – Began awkwardly. Raced three wide with cover. CRIME BOSS – Began awkwardly and shifted in. GOOD HUMOUR – Tightened for room on jumping. PULL ANCHOR – Bumped on jumping. Had to alter course passing the 150m to obtain clear running. QUEENOFMAINSTREET – Had to be steadied off heels approaching the 600m when racing in restricted room. Race 7: BP SOUTH ROCKHAMPTON CLASS 5 H’CAP – 1050M POETIC SHOW was declared a late scratching at 4:48 p on veterinary advice when the gelding, after being loaded into the barriers, became fractious, reared and struck its head. Trainer A. Coome was advised that the mare would require a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on POETIC SHOW be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 4:48 pm: 1 cent in the dollar for the win #22 cents in the dollar for place of winner #22 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #112 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #12 MEDIA VITA – Raced 4 wide throughout.
