OUR PARISIAN STAR – Slow to begin.

ISIS JECTALE – Began awkwardly.

BROOKVILLE – Slow to begin.

CASINO WEEK – Passing the 200m improved onto heels and was obliged to shift out in an attempt to secure clear running. A short distance later was again disappointed for a run and had to alter course back to the inside to obtain clear running.

ANNMARIE – Passing the 200m improved onto heels and had to be shifted inwards to secure clear running.

BUSTER MOON – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

BEL SANDS – A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have sustained an injury to the near fore tendon.  Trainer D. Rideout was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to racing again. Mr Rideout advised stewards that it may now be the connections’ intention to retire the mare from racing.

Race 2:  North Tullamore Station QTIS 3yo Maiden H’cap – 1200m

DJEBEL READY – Shifted out on jumping.

CRAIGLEA GRACE – On jumping became awkwardly placed at the heels of DJEBEL READY and blundered.

CRAIGLEA TOPAZ – Began awkwardly and blundered.

LADY CECILIA – Began awkwardly and made contact with the barrier partition and then raced three wide with cover.

BANTU BAY – Reared as the start was effected and lost ground. Held up for clear running between the 400m and 200m and was disappointed for running on a number of occasions before shifting wider on the course  passing the 100m to secure clear running. When asked to explain the tactics adopted, jockey A. Butler advised it was his intention to race in a forward position, however after rearing at the start and being positioned at the rear of the field he then elected to ride the horse in a rearward position to give his mount a chance to finish the race off.  He further added that after being disappointed for a run on a number of occasions in the home straight,  and unable to improve, when eventually securing clear running the gelding did finish the race off quite well.  Stewards noted the explanation.

ZIGGI ROCKS – Passing the 900m when being restrained, laid out and became awkwardly placed at the heels of ATTARD, which shifted in.  Apprentice Z. White, rider of ATTARD, was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground.

ISA PRINCESS – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

Race 3: The Morning Bulletin Benchmark 69 H’cap – 1200m

DOOGUS – Lunged forward in the gates prior to the start being effected.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils.  The veterinary surgeon was unable to establish with certainty if this was or wasn’t due to head trauma and therefore trainer J. Rundle was directed to have the gelding scoped, the results of which to be forwarded to stewards within 24 hours for a determination.

MISS ANNA – Passing the 900m was tightened for room and had to be checked off the heels of MR PHENOMENAL, which was taken in by COUNTER MAL.  Apprentice M. Wishart, rider of  COUNTER MEAL, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) for allowing her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of MR PHENOMENAL, which was forced in on to MISS ANNA, which had to be checked and lose its position. Apprentice M. Wishart’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 8 days, to commence at midnight, 10 August, and to expire at midnight, 18 August. In determining penalty, stewards took into account apprentice Wishart’s guilty plea and recent record.

Race 6: XXXX Gold Benchmark 55 H’cap – 1600m

CRAIGLEA SIMMO – Was fractious in the float en route to the course and underwent a veterinary examination at the request of trainer K. Johnston and was cleared to start.

ATTIQUE – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Then raced keenly in the early stages.

GLADISHING – Slow to begin.

HULK HENRY – Slow to begin.

THE REAL SPIEL – Laid out under pressure over the final 200m.  When asked to explain the tactics adopted on the horse, jockey M. Wishart was instructed by trainer P. Butterworth to lead if possible and if able to obtain that position, settle in that position until passing the 700m, where if possible quicken the tempo to try and sneak a margin on the rest of the field.  Apprentice Wishart endeavoured to do that, and she was also of the opinion that the gelding travelled well rounding the home turn and still had something to offer and fought out the finish quite strongly. She further added she had ridden the gelding in previous starts, including a win at Dalby where she rode the horse in a similar manner and it was successful.  Apprentice Wishart also stated that the horse was stepping up to 1600m today on a track with a longer straight, which may have had some bearing  on its finishing effort over the final stages. Trainer P. Butterworth was questioned regarding the tactics adopted.  He confirmed the instructions given to apprentice Wishart, however did express his disappointment in apprentice Wishart’s handling of the gelding in the middle stages between the 1100m and 700m where he felt she should have steadied the speed to give the gelding a chance to settle midrace before asking it to quicken after passing the 700m.  Stewards gave consideration to the comments of trainer P. Butterworth and apprentice Wishart and determined that the tactics adopted by apprentice Wishart were not unreasonable and took no further action.

Due to continuous rain prior to, during and following race 6, stewards downgraded the track to a Soft 5 prior to the running of Race 7.

Race 7: Become A Member 2019/20 Class 1 H’cap – 1200m

The start of this race was delayed when the FOXSULT proved difficult to load.

TESTA BOOM – After receiving a phone call from trainer C. McIver to alert stewards that the gelding had suffered an injury prior to being loaded onto the float for transport to the track, the horse was declared a late scratching at 2.35 pm.  Trainer C. McIver was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required for the horse prior to racing again.

TOY MEEKA – As there was no rider available to take the ride, Stewards acceded to a request from trainer L Petersen to allow jockey T. Brooker to ride the mare 1kg above its allotted weight.

FOXSULT – Delayed the start and proved difficult to load, and then raced three wide with cover throughout. Trainer T. Cook was advised that a further barrier certificate would be required prior to racing again.

DRUMEOUS – Bumped on jumping. Passing the 200m put in an awkward stride and became unbalanced.

OUR SAY – Bumped on jumping.

TOY MEEKA – Began awkwardly and shifted in.

BOOMISTA – Passing the 900m laid out and became awkwardly placed at the heels of TOY MEEKA and had to be checked.  Then again passing the 700m when laying out became awkwardly placed at heels and had to be restrained.

GOING TO VEGAS – Raced three wide without cover.
