Race 1: JP & DA Jenkins Pty Ltd Class 6 H’cap – 1200m
 
SCORCHA – Reared on jumping away and shifted out abruptly, becoming awkward on the heels of MISS DE MIRAGE, having to be restrained and became awkward in its stride. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
 
AUTHENTIC SWING – Slow to begin.
 
HELLUVA HOFFA – In the vicinity of the 500m was obliged to shift wider on the track to improve into clear running. Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
DOOGUS – Raced wide without cover throughout the event.
 
BLAZING STEEL –  Apprentice Z. White pleaded guilty to a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that she used her whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m and was fined $200.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Race 2: Ramsay Pharmacy Rockhampton Maiden H’cap – 1100m
 
BUNDY BEAR – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after not competing in the past 12 months and was passed fit to start. Slow to begin. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Rider reported that her mount failed to respond to her riding at any stage during the event and was disappointing in its finishing effort.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be shin sore in the near foreleg, and displaying signs of heat stress.  Trainer was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to any future race..
 
UPPER DELIGHT – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after making contact with the rail en route to the barriers and was passed fit to start. Laid in under pressure in the straight. Rider reported that his mount failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure from the vicinity of the 600m and ran to the line in a disappointing manner.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
 
HUGS ‘N’ KISSES – Slow into stride.
 
MIGHTY MEERKAT – Slow to begin.
 
BELZU – Hung out under pressure in the straight, placing its rider at a disadvantage over the concluding stages.
 
PRINCE NUTCRACKER – Raced wide without cover throughout. Rider reported that his mount raced greenly throughout the event and would take benefit from today’s race being first up in its preparation.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse had lost its off hind plate in running.  
 
SUMMER LEA – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
WIDE LOAD – A post race veterinary examination revealed signs of mild heat stress.
 
 
 
Race 3: Rockhampton Engineering And Maintenance Services Benchmark 65 H’cap – 1600m
 
MISHNAH – Jumped away awkwardly and shifted in abruptly.
 
BLUE SEAL – Hampered on jumping away.  Rider accidentally dropped his whip in the vicinity of the 200m.
 
SIR HARRY – Jumped away awkwardly. Held up for clear running from the 600m to inside the 400m. When questioned regarding the options available to him in the straight, Jockey J Grobb stated that approaching the 600m he elected to shift off the fence to attempt to improve around the heels of MISHNAH, but when doing so JUSTALAD improved quickly to his outside preventing him from shifting out. He then elected to shift back and attempt to improve into a run between COMMANDER’S WATCH and LUVYA BEAK but once commencing to shift in  that run also closed.  He added that once JUSTALAD had improved to his outside was able to shift out into clear running and finished off in a positive manner. Jockey J. Grob added that in hindsight he should have persisted with the run between COMMANDER’S WATCH and LUVYA BEAK which eventually presented after he elected to shift out.  Stewards noted his explanation.

NEWSTEAD – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 4: Patlaw Securities Kids Christmas At Thje Races – Tues 17 December Benchmark – 1300m
 
LEGAL TIES – Raced wide without cover throughout the event. Rider  J. Oakford reported that in his opinion LEGAL TIES was disadvantaged being trapped wide and also carrying 60 kilograms first up this preparation.  Trainer L. Rowe advised it was now his intention to give the mare a short spell before continuing on with its preparation.
 
KNUCKLE UP – Trainer G. Bell advised stewards of a change of tactics to attempt to be ridden more forward in today’s event.  After being ridden vigorously after jumping away, failed to respond to the rider’s urgings and settled at the rear of the field.
 
REGAL REECE – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
MAGIC SCENE – Was inconvenienced passing the winning post by REGAL REECE, which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey J. Grob, rider of REGAL REECE, was reminded of his obligations to stop riding and straighten his mounts when they shift ground in future.
 
MISS SMINKER – When questioned regarding MISS SMINKER leading in today’s event, apprentice jockey Z. White advised that she was instructed to make use of its good barrier in today’s event and to be ridden in a closer position.  Trainer V Heading confirmed the instructions but was of the opinion they were similar to the instructions provided at MISS SMINKERS previous two starts. Stewards advised trainer in future if these tactics differ from its previous start to advise stewards of such potential change. Lost its off fore plate in running.
 
 
 
Race 5: Roslyn Dodson Bookkeeping Services QTIS 3yo Maiden H’cap – 1300m
 
ESPEREUS – Declared a late scratching 7.35 pm due to no available rider.
 
GIRRAH LASS  – Declared a late scratching 7.35 pm due to no available rider.
 
ZIGGI ROCKS – Jumped away awkwardly and shifted out abruptly, hampering KING KAI.  In the vicinity of the 1000m had to be restrained after improving on to the heels of NOBODY BETTER.
 
NOT LIABLE – In the vicinity of the 300m was momentarily inconvenienced by POINT THE WAGON, which shifted out when insufficiently clear.  Jockey M. Milford, rider of POINT THE WAGON, was severely reprimanded under AR131(a) and reminded to stop riding and straighten his mounts when they shift ground in future.
 
SIR SKYWALKER – Hampered on jumping away.
 
KING KAI – Hampered on jumping away. In the vicinity of the 1200m had to be steadied to avoid the heels of SIR SKYWALKER, which shifted in. 
 
GLOBAL FUGITIVE – In the vicinity of the 1000m had to be steadied  to avoid the heels of GOLDEN TREASURE, which was carried in by  NOBODY BETTER, which shifted in whilst overracing.
 
POINT THE WAGON – Rider reported his mount raced green throughout the event and laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
NOBODY BETTER – Overraced in the early and middle stages.
 
THE GIRL IS WILD – Jumped away awkwardly and shifted in abruptly, hampering SIR SKYWALKER.
 
 
 
 
Race 6: L J Hooker Dashi Dash – Tues 17 Dec From 5.30 PM Class 3 Plate – 1050m
 
ELEGANT ZOUS – Jumped away awkwardly, making contact with the outside barrier partition. Rider reported he became concerned with the action of the mare over the concluding stages and as a result elected not to place his mount under pressure.   A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
 
NO FINER JET – In the vicinity of the 1000m had to be restrained after racing in restricted room to the inside of MARCHING ORDERS. Laid out under pressure in the straight.
