Race 1: ONSITE FLEET MAINTENANCE MAIDEN PLATE – 1300M

COMMANDER’S WATCH – Jockey T. Chambers stated that she was under no instructions today, but after jumping well was able to take up a more forward position and in her opinion the horse was better suited than racing further back in the field as it has in its previous starts. Trainer Mr J. Lewis confirmed that even though he offered no instructions, he was surprised to see the gelding race in a forward position, but given the results, would look to having the horse race in a similar pattern for the remainder of its preparation.

MOUNT DUMARESQ – Hung out rounding the home turn and in the vicinity of the 700m became awkwardly placed on the heels of OUR GIRL FIFI.

RUN AL RUN – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after not having competed in the past 12 months and was passed fit to start. Slow to begin.

HE’S SO VIVACIOUS – Jumped away awkwardly.

NOT LIABLE – Raced wide throughout.

POETIC PETE – Jumped away awkwardly. When questioned regarding the improved performance today, trainer A. Coome stated that the gelding is still quite green but had improved in its work leading up to today’s event and he was not surprised with today’s result. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be suffering from heat stress.

GREAT LOOKER – Contacted on jumping away.

MORENITA – Slow to begin. Had to be restrained shortly after jumping away to avoid heels.

OUR GIRL FIFI – Jumped away awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.

SHAKA DIAMOND – Shifted out on jumping away. Raced wide throughout.

NEVER LOSE FAITH – Shifted out abruptly in the vicinity of the 200m, resulting in N. Day becoming unsaddled and being dislodged. When questioned, N. Day stated that his saddle slipped in the vicinity of the 200m and as a result he was dislodged. Jockey Day was examined by the ambulance officers and passed fit to fulfil his remaining engagements.

Race 2: WENDY MULRY TRAVEL OPEN H'CAP – 1050M

DAM WONDERFUL was a late scratching on veterinary advice at 2:48 pm after lunging forward in the gates and striking its head on the barrier partition, sustaining a laceration to the right nostril. Prior to the declaration of correct weight stewards advised that all monies invested on the mare would be refunded in full, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 2:48 pm:

0 cents in the dollar for the win #4
8 cents in the dollar for place of winner #4
7 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #3

PALLADIAN – Slow into stride. Had to be restrained in the vicinity of the 900m after improving on to the heels of LADYADA, which was easing to allow SHIGERU MAHOGANY to cross. When questioned regarding the performance, jockey N. Day stated that his mount failed to muster early gate speed and in the vicinity of the 900m his mount overreacted when attempting to steady off heels.

LADYADA – Jumped away awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a poor post-race recovery, to be exhibiting signs of heat stress and to have sustained a laceration to the near foreleg.

MUSTARRID – Rider A. Butler was reminded of his obligations to ride his mount out at least hands and heels over the concluding stages.

ARTHUR PORRIT – Bumped on jumping away.

ROSEXCEL – Raced wide throughout.

SECRET SITES – Eased on jumping away and shifted back to the inside of runners. Disappointed for a run in the vicinity of the 500m to the inside of EARL OF FORDYCE and as a result had to be shifted out to improve into clear running.

Race 5: BECOME A CLUB 150 MEMBER QTIS 3YO H'CAP – 1400M

THREE STRIPES – A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the colt had bled from the left nostril. Trainer Mr R. Bowen was advised that the horse must gallop satisfactorily over 1000m in the presence of stewards prior to a future start.

CRIME BOSS – When questioned regarding the performance, jockey S. Wiseman advised that she was instructed to attempt to find cover in today’s event, but after being trapped wide her mount began to race fiercely and when placed under pressure on entering the home straight failed to respond to her riding and ran to the line in a disappointing manner. Trainer J Pointon advised that in his opinion he instructed his rider not to be trapped wide at any stage, to push forward in an attempt to lead and was surprised to see CRIME BOSS racing so far back and wide. Stewards advised both parties to be more clear when receiving or interpreting instructions in future and advised jockey S. Wiseman that if instructed to find cover in future, if that tactic does not eventuate, then she should not be so single-minded in trying to ride to instructions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a poor post-race recovery and to be showing signs of heat stress.

ZIGGI ROCKS – Overraced in the middle stages.

BRASS BEAD – Rider C. Whiteley reported that his mount raced greenly throughout the event.
