Race 1: The Leather Doctor Maiden H’cap – 1500mRUN AL RUN – As jockey M. Milford failed to arrive on course in time to fulfil his engagement, he was replaced by jockey J. Grobb. Subsequently, jockey Milford pleaded guilty to a charge under AR128 and was reprimanded. OR ELSE – Was awkward to be begin and as a result was slow into stride. In the vicinity of the 500m was obliged to be steadied and shift out after PIANO MAN shifted in abruptly when insufficiently clear. Jockey M. Haley, rider of PIANO MAN, was severely reprimanded. HE'S SO VIVACIOUS – Jumped away awkwardly and as a result was slow into stride. SHAKA DIAMOND – Jumped away awkwardly. RUN AL RUN – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. STUBAI – Overraced in the early stages. PIANO MAN – Had to be steadied after improving on to the heels of COMMANDER’S WATCH in the vicinity of the 1000m after being ridden aggressively to improve into a run to the inside of SHAKA DIAMOND. In the vicinity of the 500m became awkwardly placed on the heels of GREAT LOOKER, which was weakening and as a result shifted in abruptly in an attempt to improve into clear running. Rider M. Haley pleaded guilty of a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) – excessive use of the whip – in that he used his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m and was fined $200. In determining penalty, stewards took into account this was jockey Haley’s first breach in 3 years. SHAKA DIAMOND – Jockey S. Sheargold returned to scale in excess of half a kilogram overweight. Jockey Sheargold pleaded guilty to a charge under AR211(1) and was fined the sum of $1500. In determining penalty stewards took into account Jockey Sheargolds’ poor record in relation to this rule. Stewards acting under AR283(5) suspended $500 of the fine for a period of 2 years. Race 2: Beef Australia Open H’cap – 1400mCORAL BAY – Jumped away awkwardly. In the vicinity of the 1000m had to be restrained after improving onto heels after the pace of the race was slackened, and as a result shifted wider and took up the leading position. Jockey A. Sewell pleaded guilty of a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) – excessive use of the whip – in that he used his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m and was reprimanded. POETIC HEART – Jumped away awkwardly. In the vicinity of the 1000m had to be restrained off heels after the pace of the race slackened. Apprentice jockey Z. White pleaded guilty of a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) – excessive use of the whip – in that she used her whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m and was fined $400. In assessing penalty stewards took into account apprentice White’s recent poor record in relation to whip breaches. DAUNTING QUEEN – Laid in under pressure in the straight. I CAN I WILL I AM – A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.Race 3: Phil Peel Jewellers QTIS Jewel Qualifier 2yo H’cap – 1100mTHAT’LL BE THE DAY – Jumped away awkwardly and was slow to begin. A post race veterinary examination revealed signs of mucus build up and a poor post recovery. Trainer Mr B. Ryan was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to a future race start. ALEYSA’S DREAM – Jumped away awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the straight. SING FOR VIOLET – Jockey L. Dillon was found guilty of a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) – excessive use of the whip – in that he used his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m. Jockey Dillon’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 7 days, to commence at midnight, 5 March and to expire at midnight, 12 March. In considering penalty, stewards took into account jockey Dillon’s poor record in relation to whip use and the fact that he has only just returned from a whip suspension. MISS LOT WON - When questioned regarding the performance of the horse, jockey J. Stanley stated that when asked for an effort in the vicinity of the 400m his mount failed to respond to his riding and went to the line in a disappointing manner. He added he could offer no explanation regarding the performance other than the fact that the filly was first up from a short spell and would derive benefit from today’s run. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be tied up. Race 4: Wandal Feed And Seed/ Thinkwater Benchmark 65 H’cap – 1600mWAS IT WORTH IT – Jumped away awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin. RAISE AN ARMY – Contacted on jumping away by the outside barrier gate which bounced back.GYPSY BIKER – Shortly after jumping away had to be steadied to avoid the heels of MUSTARRID, which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey S. Sheargold, rider of MUSTARRID, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR131(a) – careless riding – for shifting ground when insufficiently clear to do so and was suspended from riding in races for a period of 8 days, to commence at midnight, 3 March and to expire at midnight, 11 March. Jockey L. Tilley, rider of GYPSY BIKER, reported his mound raced greenly throughout and in the vicinity of the 600m shifted out abruptly. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. PLAIN ‘N’ SIMPLE – A post race veterinary examination revealed minor lacerations to both hind legs.MUSTARRID – In the vicinity of the 1200m had to be steadied to avoid the heels of PLAIN ‘N’ SIMPLE, which shifted in when insufficiently clear, and after doing so slowed the pace of the race excessively. Jockey S. Wiseman, rider of PLAIN ‘N’ SIMPLE, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR131(d) – excessively slowing the pace – and was reprimanded. After being crossed by PLAIN ‘N’ SIMPLE, continued to over race for the remainder of the event. Rider reported that MUSTARRID hung in throughout the event.Race 5: BNJ Equine Vets Class 6 Plate – 1100mSIR MAGIC – Slow to begin. COHESION – Slow to begin and was bumped shortly after jumping. Raced wide without cover throughout. CHANAMARO – Bumped on jumping away. LADYADA – Jumped away awkwardly. Raced green under pressure in the straight. MALKARA – In the vicinity of the 300m was momentarily inconvenienced by LADYADA, which shifted out marginally, and EMINENT, which shifted in marginally. Race 6: St Patrick’s Day Races Saturday 14 March Class 3 H’cap – 1200mONLY WANNA SING - Contacted on jumping away. PAUA – Jumped away awkwardly and was slow into stride and as a result was shifted in and behind runners. Laid in under pressure in the straight. GREAT FOX – Jumped away awkwardly. ULTIMATE GOLD – Slow to begin.SUZI BEL – Jumped away awkwardly. EARL OF FORDYCE – Jumped away awkwardly. Race 7: XXXX Gold Class 1 H’cap – 1300mFREESTYLER - Held up for clear running from entering the home straight until the vicinity of the 150m. HADRIAN – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight to the vicinity of the 200m. Hung out under pressure over the concluding stages. SEQUALO’S SPIRIT – Slow to begin. Momentarily held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. FEATHER YOUR NEST – Slow to begin. Jockey T. Chambers pleaded guilty of a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) – excessive use of the whip – in that she used her whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m and was fined $300.
