Race 1: RUM CITY FOODS MAIDEN H'CAP – 1200M
 
SO PROUD – B. Richardson pleaded guilty to a charge of excessive use of the whip (14 times prior to the 100m, 17 times in total) and was fined $200. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account that this was B. Richardson’s first whip breach in the past 12 months.
 
PRINCE DUPORTH – Jumped away awkwardly. Momentarily held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Hung in under pressure in the home straight. Trainer K. Smyth advised stewards that he would look to instruct the rider in future to settle more forward and would experiment with a gear change at its next race start to try to stop PRINCE DUPORTH from hanging in.
 
NONSTOP – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
VOK’S THE ONE – Raced wide throughout. Trainer L. Clem was advised that a warning would be placed on the record of VOK’S THE ONE in relation to its competitiveness.
 
APOLOGY ACCEPTED – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
DIP DYE – Trainer S. O’Shea was advised that a warning would be placed on the record of DIP DYE in relation to being difficult to load.
 
BRAHMINY – Had to be restrained in the vicinity of the 1000m after improving on to the heels of OYASHIO after being crossed.
 
STEADY STAR – Had to be steadied in the vicinity of the 100m to avoid the heels of ENCUMBRANCE, which was taken out by BROOKVILLE, which laid out under pressure. Dakota Graham, ride of BROOKVILLE, was reminded of her obligations to stop and straighten her mounts when they shift ground in future.
 
JOMERA – When questioned regarding performance, jockey M.Haley stated that his mount travelled well throughout the event but when asked for an effort, the filly failed to respond and was disappointing in its finishing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
PAIBLE – Slow to begin.
 
BROOKVILLE – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
TALA RIKISA – Momentarily held up for clear running on entering the home straight and had to be shifted in to improve. When questioned regarding the improved performance, trainer D Johnston stated that TALA RIKISA wasn’t beaten that far in its last few performances at Mackay and Townsville and with the extra distance today, expected a good showing. He added that TALA RIKISA had pleased in its work leading up to today’s event and wasn’t overly surprised by the performance.
 
Race 2: BELROMA PARK BENCHMARK 65 H'CAP – 1200M
 
SNIPONET – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
SHENRON – Reared on jumping away. Had to be steadied in the vicinity of the 800m after improving on to heels. Trainer Mr C. Attard was advised that a warning would be placed on SHENRON in relation to its barrier manners.
 
L’AMOUR MALADE – In the vicinity of the 1000m was hampered by TARAKI, which shifted in abruptly.
 
STATIC LIFT – Overraced in the early and middle stages.
 
MISS DE MIRAGE – Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
DON’T DOUBT MAEVE – Overraced in the early and middle stages.
 
EMBATTLED – Ran off rounding the home turn and ran to the outside fence in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr A. Coome was advised that EMBATTLED would be required to trial satisfactorily on two consecutive occasions prior to a future race start.
 
TARTUFO BIANCO – Had to be steadied in the vicinity of the 400m after being disappointed for a tight run to the inside of SWINGAHINCH.
 
Race 3: MAYOR’S CUP OPEN H'CAP – 1400M
 
FRIENDLY DRAGON – Jumped away awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
BLUE JEST – Had to be steadied in the vicinity of the 1000m after improving on to the heels of I CAN I WILL I AM.
 
POETIC HEART – Had to be steadied after improving onto to heels in the vicinity of the 700m.
 
SENSATION ALLY – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
SHIRANDA – Raced wide throughout. Rider T. Bannon stated that her saddle shifted back on jumping away, placing her at a disadvantage.
 
CAVELTON – Slow to begin. Had to be steadied in the vicinity of the 300m to avoid the heels of BLUE JEST, which shifted out when insufficiently clear. Apprentice D. Graham, the rider of BLUE JEST, was severely reprimanded and advised show greater care in similar circumstances. Obliged to shift in to improve into clear running over the concluding stages.
 
DON’T WE LOVE IT – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
Race 4: HYGAIN / MITAVITE CAPRICORNIA YEARLING SALE CHAMPIONSHIP QTIS 3&4YO H'CAP – 1300M
 
MARWAY – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight and was obliged to shift out to improve into clear running. When questioned regarding MARWAY racing further back in today’s event, jockey B. Pengelly stated that he was instructed to ride MARWAY where comfortable and after the gelding anticipated the start and began only fairly, he was inclined to settle midfield. He added that he was able to obtain clear running in the home straight and the horse finished off the race positively. Trainer J. O’Sing confirmed the instructions and was surprised to see MARWAY racing that far back but was pleased with the result nonetheless. Stewards accepted the explanation.
 
HEZHOME – Permission was granted for T.Chambers to ride the gelding 1kg over its allotted weight.
 
TYCOON FLYER – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
KINGS COUNTY – Slow to begin.
 
POUND FOR POUND – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Momentarily inconvenienced on entering the home straight.
 
GOLDIE’S ARCHER – Jumped away awkwardly. Overraced in the early and middle stages.
 
ALL FOR HARRY – Slow to begin. Became awkwardly placed on heels in the vicinity of the 800m.
 
Race 5: SPRINGTON PARK BENCHMARK 58 H'CAP – 1400M
 
HEYGERONIMO – When questioned regarding HEYGERONIMO not taking a run which appeared to present in the vicinity of the 400m, jockey N. Seymour stated that his mount had a tendency to lay in under pressure in the straight and he was concerned that a run which appeared between FLYING KASS and WHAT A THOUGHT was going to close and as such he elected to shift out around the heels of FLYING KASS, and after doing so his mount continued to lay in for the remainder of the straight. Stewards noted his explanation.
 
VAN WINKEL – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Raced in restricted room for a number of strides passing the 1000m.
 
CELOSIA – Held up for clear running from the vicinity of the 300m until approaching the 200m and had to shift out to improve into clear running. Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
CAPTAIN TOM – When questioned regarding the performance of CAPTAIN TOM, jockey B. Pengelly stated that his mount raced ungenerously in the early stages and was reluctant to stretch out. He added that his mount never felt comfortable throughout the run and ran to the line in a disappointing manner. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer T Simmons stated that she will report back to Stewards on the condition of CAPTAIN TOM in the coming days and would look to reassess the current training program if anything is amiss in the days subsequent.
 
WHAT A THOUGHT – Jumped away awkwardly. Trainer Mr A. Coome was advised that a warning would be placed on the record of WHAT A THOUGHT in relation to being difficult to load.
 
STREET ROGUE – Had to be restrained in the vicinity of the 700m after improving on to the heels of VAN WINKEL.
 
ARJAYCEE – Raced wide throughout.
 
GLADISHING – Slow to begin.
 
Race 6: ROCKHAMPTON MINI LOADS & TRUCK HIRE BENCHMARK 58 H'CAP – 1400M
 
ELLE A WALKING – Slow to begin.
 
FREESTYLER – Slow to begin. Raced ungenerously in the early stages. Had to be steadied in the vicinity of the 600m after improving on to heels.
 
HADRIAN – Slow to begin.
 
CHINCHINBILLA – Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
NATIVE BEE – Jockey S. Wiseman was reminded of her obligations to ride her mounts out to the finish.
 
PLAIN ‘N’ SIMPLE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
COMMANDER’S WATCH – Had to be steadied in the vicinity of the 1200m to avoid the heels of NATIVE BEE, which was carried in by MISS STAR, which shifted in when insufficiently clear. G. Goomany, the rider of MISS STAR, was severely reprimanded and advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
Race 7: DLV FINANCE 2020 CAPRICORNIA YEARLING SALE CLASSIC QTIS 2YO PLATE – 1200M
 
The start of this race was delayed 7mins owing to THE SILVER LADY dislodging its rider en route to the barriers and having to be recaptured.
 
THE SILVER LADY, which dislodged its rider en route to the barriers and galloped a significant distance, was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 4:06 pm when it was found to be lame in the off foreleg.
 
PRINCESS RULES, which was found to be lame in the off foreleg behind the barriers, was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 4:12 pm.
 
Prior to the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on THE SILVER LADY and PRINCESS RULES be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 4:06 pm:
 
31 cents in the dollar for the win #8
29 in the dollar for place of winner #8
33 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #3
20 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #10
 
And the following deductions to apply to wagers placed between 4:06 pm and 4:12 pm:

Both Mr T. Button, the trainer of THE SILVER LADY, and Mr L. Wright, the trainer of PRINCESS RULES, were advised that their respective horses will require a veterinary clearance prior to a future race start.
 
GOODBYE EARL – Slow to begin. Travelled wide in the middle stages.
 
POETIC FINAL SAY – Had to be steadied off heels of WAR BUGLE near the vicinity of the 300m when that runner shifted in marginally.
 
WAR BUGLE – Pulled hard near the 500m and had to be restrained off the heels of QUEEN OF STYLE.
 
BLOW THE WHISTLE – Due to no available rider, R Oakford was permitted to ride the gelding 2.5kg over its allotted weight. Slow to begin.
 
MISS LOT WON – Permission was granted for M. Barnham to ride the filly 1kg over its allotted weight. Travelled wide throughout.
 
SILVER LUCY – Laid out under pressure in the straight.
 
JAVA SPARROW – Steadied
 
I FEEL REAL – Slow to begin and failed to muster early speed.
 
Race 8: XXXX GOLD OPEN H'CAP – 1050M
 
TAMBO’S HEART – Jumped away awkwardly and shifted out abruptly. Had to be checked in the vicinity of the 900m to avoid the heels of ALLROUND GLORY, which shifted in when insufficiently clear to do so. Apprentice E. Bell, the rider of ALLROUND GLORY, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) for permitting her mount to shift ground when insufficiently clear to do so. Apprentice Bell’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 13 days, to commence midnight Tuesday 14 April and expire midnight Monday 27 April 2020.
 
CYCLONE FUGITIVE – Hampered in the vicinity of the 900m.
 
RAIDEN – Jumped away awkwardly. Became awkwardly placed on heels in the vicinity of the 600m when attempting to shift out to improve.
 
BEST GUESS – Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
SWEET SURPRISE – Hampered in the vicinity of the 900m.
 
HIDDEN GODDESS – Steadied on jumping away to avoid the heels of TAMBO’S HEART, which shifted out abruptly.

FAST SONG was declared a late scratching at 5:30 pm after refusing to load. Trainer Mr P. Burke was advised that he must obtain a further barrier certificate for the horse prior to a future race start. DRAGON PINS – Jumped away awkwardly. Had to be eased near the 800m when crossed by FALVERA. M. Barnham, the rider of FALVERA, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
 
FALVERA – Shifted out abruptly from DRAGON PINS near the 300m.
 
EXOCET ROCKET – Carried out onto CARRARA GOLD in the vicinity of the 350m and again near the 300m when FALVERA shifted ground.
 
SAY PLEASE – Slow to begin.
 
MIRACULOUS – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
CHILLI PRAWN – Hampered shortly after jumping away. Bumped and carried wider by EXOCET ROCKET in the vicinity of the 300m, when that runner was carried out by FALVERA.
 
CARRARA GOLD – Had to be checked in the vicinity of the 350m when tightened for room between CHILLI PRAWN who shifted in marginally and EXOCET ROCKET who was carried out by FALVERA. M Barnham, rider of FALVERA, was reprimanded and advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
