QUEENSLAND RACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT ROCKHAMPTON JOCKEY CLUB, SATURDAY 25th JULY, 2020 WEATHER – OVERCAST TRACK RATING – SOFT 5/ Upgraded to GOOD 4 following race 4 RAIL – TRUE ENTIRE COURSE PENETROMETER – 5.6 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – Mr J. Conway SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT MACKAY 21th JULY 2020 Trainer R Shannon reported that ASTRAL ODYSSEY and JETINTOIT had both pulled up well and would look to continue with their current preparations. GENERAL DIAMOND ACCOUNT and MIGHTY MEERKAT underwent pre race veterinary examinations after competing in the past seven days and were passed fit to start. Race 1: REVENGE HAIR AND BEAUTY BOUTIQUE QTIS 2YO MDN HCP – 1200M AERIAL COMBAT – When questioned regarding tactics adopted today, apprentice M Potgieter stated his instructions were to attempt to find cover, but after showing early gate speed, elected to press forward and lead rather than be trapped wide without cover. Trainer J Wiggington stated he was surprised to see AERIAL COMBAT leading in todays event, but nonetheless was pleased with the performance. Stewards noted the explanation. Trainers representative was fined $100 for presenting the gelding without blinkers. ROCK READY – Jumped away awkwardly and was slow to begin as a result. When questioned regarding the performance of ROCK READY which performed below market expectations, jockey B Appo stated that ROCK READY never felt comfortable at any stage and failed to respond to his urgings throughout the event. Trainer J Wehlow was advised that ROCK READY, who was beaten by 44 lengths, must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial prior to its next start. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. SHEMADEMEDOIT – Slow to begin. STRUTTAROUND – Underwent a pre race veterinary examination after being fractious in the barriers and was passed fit to start. Jockey C Whiteley was examined by Queensland Ambulance Officers and was stood down to fulfil this engagement and as such, STRUTTAROUND was a late scratching at 12.17pm. Following the event, all monies invested on the horse were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable: 5 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets5 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets for the win6 cents in the dollar on the face value of 2nd place bets4 cents in the dollar on the face value of 3rd place bets ISIS MARIA – Slow to begin. Hung out throughout the event and approaching the 900m, ran off making the turn. Trainer K Miller was advised ISIS MARIA must barrier trial satisfactorily prior to its next start. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. IT’S A PEARLER – Laid in under pressure in the straight. MISS GOLD BOUNTY –. In the vicinity of the 700m, had to be restrained to avoid the heels of SHEMADEMEDOIT who shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey G Goomany, rider of SHEMADEMEDOIT, was severely reprimanded. Laid in under pressure in the straight COLOUR PERFECT – Slow to begin. Race 2: MARK BUNT MENSWEAR QTIS 3YO MDN HCP – 1400M LAW OFFICE – Rider M Potgieter reported his mount raced greenly throughout the event. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have mildly tied up. SCANDINA – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. Overraced in the early and middle stages. RUFFIN’ IT – Rider G Goomany reported his mount hung out throughout the event. WINDCHILL – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Rider B Appo plead guilty to a charge under AR131(c) in that he made a celebratory gesture prior to the winning post and was fined $200. GOLDEN TREASURE – Held up for clear running from entering the home straight to approaching the 300m. MOGALAKWENA – When questioned regarding the performance of MOGALAKWENA which performed below market expectations, jockey M Butler stated his mount travelled well in the early and middle stages, however weakened noticeably in the home straight and as a result, elected to not place his mount under pressure over the concluding stages. Trainer T Button stated the filly would now be leaving the stable. A post race veterinary examination failed to revealed any abnormalities. EVRYNOW’N’THEN – As C Whiteley was indisposed for this race, A Sewell was permitted to replace him as rider. Slow to begin. SPLENDID FUN – Slow to begin. THE GIRL IS WILD – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. After the running of this race C Whiteley was examined by Queensland Ambulance Officers and passed fit to fulfil his remaining engagements. Race 3: SPRINGTON PARK THOROUGHBRED SPELLING FARM OPEN HCP – 1050M Prior to the declaration of correct weight, stewards interviewed starter P Conway in relation to the start. It was ascertained that the barrier of V J DAY (3rd place) failed to open with the remainder of the field. Though V J DAY was disadvantaged by the barrier failing to ope n with the field, the gelding had placed in the first four runners and acting under AR204 was declared a runner. Following the running of race 3 the barriers were re-tested. BRING IT HOME POP – Jumped awkwardly. Laid in entering the home straight and became awkwardly placed on the heels of SCORCHA. V J DAY – As the start was affected, the barriers failed to open which resulted in the gelding contacting the gates and forcibly opening them. Overraced in the early and middle stages. A post race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to the right eye. VICTORY DANCE – Slow to begin. HIDDEN GODDESS – Bounded on jumping. Overraced in the early stages. MIA HOST – Jumped away awkwardly Following the running of race 3 the barriers were tested Race 4: USG BORAL CLASS 3 HCP – 1600M QUIDNI – In the vicinity of the 1400m, had to be restrained after improving onto the heels of FORZA. FORZA – Jumped awkwardly. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. COACH – Slow to begin. Overraced in the early stages. Passing the 1400m, took charge of its rider and attempted to improve into a run to the inside of QIUDNI where there was insufficient room to do so and as a result, had to be restrained. MIGHTY MEERKAT – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, apprentice M Potgieter stated that his instructions were to attempt to settle mid field, however after MIGHTY MEERKAT showed unexpected early gate speed, he was trapped three wide in the early stages. He added that he was able to improve his position to take up a position outside the lead approaching the 900m. Trainer I Shaw confirmed the instructions and added he was surprised to see MIGHTY MEERKAT racing forward. Stewards noted the explanation. MR RESETTI – Raced wide throughout. Race 5: NORTH TULLAMORE PASTORAL COMPANY BM69 HCP – 1300M DANAWI – Approaching the 900m, had to be restrained after improving onto the heels of SMUG SATISFACTION. Momentarily held up for clear running upon entering the home straight. MAGIC WU – Blundered badly on jumping. Lost its near fore plate in running. A post race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to the off fore leg. CAVALERO – Raced wide throughout. STAR SILK – Contacted heavily on the hindquarters on jumping. Raced in restricted room to the inside of VAN WINKEL from the 800m to the 600m. Approaching the 300m, was momentarily inconvenienced by VAN WINKEL which shifted out abruptly despite the efforts of its rider. SIR VAN DYKE – Slow to begin. VAN WINKEL – Approaching the 300m, shifted out abruptly despite the efforts of its rider contacting STAR SILK. ATTIQUE – Underwent a pre race veterinary examination after breaking through the barriers and was passed fit to start. Slow to begin. Held up for clear running from entering the home straight until approaching the 400m where it raced in restricted and was obliged to shift in to improve into clear running. Race 6: XXXX GOLD 0-55 HCP – 1050M LORD LAURIE – Held up for clear running from entering the home straight until approaching the 100m. KENNEDY TERRACE – Jumped awkwardly. Laid out under pressure in the straight. APPLICANT – Raced wide throughout. Laid in over the concluding stages. WARNERS LANDING – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight and became awkwardly placed on the heels of SUPER LEON at the 600m. COMMANDERS WATCH – Declared a late scratching at 8.30am after there was no rider available. EMMY’S OUR GIRL – Raced wide throughout. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. SHE’S ON POINT – Raced wide throughout. Rider M Barnham reported that the mare raced on the wrong leg throughout the event and felt awkward in its action over the concluding stages. A post race veterinary examination revealed a poor post race recovery. SUPER LEON – Slow to begin. SEDUCTION - Declared a late scratching at 8.30am after there was no rider available. HEZAGIGOLO - Declared a late scratching at 8.30am after there was no rider available. RAINBOW SPARKLES - Declared a late scratching at 8.30am after there was no rider available. Race 7: WALKERS HOT BREAD SHOP CLASS 2 HCP – 1200M DOOM – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. ZABRING - Declared a late scratching at 8.30am after there was no rider available. CINCO STAR - Jumped awkwardly. When questioned regarding the performance of CINCO STAR which raced below market expectations, B Appo stated that the gelding failed to travel throughout the event and when placed under pressure, failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing in its finishing effort. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer A Coome undertook to report back on the condition of CINCO STAR in the days subsequent. BOLD SENSATION - Declared a late scratching at 8.30am after there was no rider available. POETIC PETE - Declared a late scratching at 8.30am after there was no rider available. SAY PLEASE – Slow to begin. Inside the 100m, became awkward in its action for no apparent reason and shifted out abruptly.
