MACKAY 18 AUGUST 2020 – RACE 6
 
Rider G Watson (DON’T DOUBT MAEVE) was reprimand under AR132(5) for excessive use of the whip, in that he used it on 16 occasions throughout the event.
 
GENERAL
 
As Z White was indisposed due to a fall at Yeppoon trials on the 24th August, changes were permitted as per the raceday summary. Jockey White was advised she would be required to produce a medical and also undergo a cognitive test prior to riding again.
 
The start of the races was delayed to allow for a suitable four wheel drive ambulance to arrive on course with the following race time amendments;
 
R1 – 2.20pm
R2 – 2.50pm
R3 – 3.20pm
R4 – 3.52pm
R5 – 4.27pm
R6 – 4.52pm
R7 – 5.20pm
 
Race 1: RED LION HOTEL QTIS 3YO HCP 1300M
 
Aerial Combat – Apprentice Bell reported her mount raced keenly throughout the event and as it resented her efforts when restraining, she elected to allow her mount to stride forward.
 
Bold Pedro – Overraced in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
Colour Perfect – Slow to begin. Overraced in the early stages.
 
Ripova – Held up for clear running entering the home straight and shortly after was disappointed for a narrow run between BOLD PEDRO and SHEZHOME. Approaching the 500m, was obliged to shift out to improve into clear running and in doing so contacted SHEZHOME. Rider N Day was reprimanded for using his whip 6 times prior to the 100m, being one more than permissible under the rule.
 
Shezome – Momentarily inconvenienced approaching the 500m.
 
Race 2: TAB Class 6 Plate 1200M
 
I Did It Again – Approaching the 900m, had to be restrained to avoid the heels of WHOSYOURHOUSEMATE, which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Apprentice D Graham, rider of WHOSYOURHOUSEMATE, was reprimanded and reminded of her obligations to be clear when shifting ground in the future. Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
Whosyourhousemate - Apprentice D Graham was reprimanded for using her whip 6 times prior to the 100m, being one more than permissible under the rule.
 
Bantu Bay – A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have lost its near hind plate in running.
 
Race 3: WADE HUNT IT OPEN Handicap 1400M
 
Balboa Rocks – Was momentarily held up approaching the 500m and was obliged to shift wider to improve into clear running. Rider P Hamblin was reprimanded for using his whip 6 times prior to the 100m, being one more than permissible under the rule.
 
Last Chance – Knuckled on jumping.
 
The Baker – Overraced in the early and middle stages.
 
Victory Dance – Had to be restrained when the pace of the race slackened approaching the 1000m and as a result, overraced for a number of strides. Momentarily inconvenienced approaching the 500m.
 
Race 4: TROPICAL POOL MAINTENANCE Maiden Handicap 1100M
 
Dip Dye – Apprentice D Graham was fined the sum of $300 for using her whip 8 times prior to the 100m, 3 more than permissible under the rule.
 
Law Office – Laid out under pressure in the straight.
 
Famus Fella – Hung in under pressure in the home straight. Trainer C Smith was advised a warning would be placed on the record of the gelding in relation to hanging.
 
Foxter – Jumped awkwardly.
 
Deck Of Aces – A post race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to the near fore pastern.
 
Investible – Laid out under pressure in the straight.
 
Lady Cecilia – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
Lady Sheilack – A post race veterinary examination revealed lacerations to the head and also that LADY SHEILACK had bled from both nostrils. Trainer D Rideout was advised of the provisions of AR79(4). An inquiry into a report tabled by the veterinary surgeon into the condition of LADY SHEILACK was adjourned to a time and date to be fixed.
 
Miss Daisy – Declared a late scratching at 7.50am after no suitable rider who could make the weight was available.
 
Tydiva - Declared a late scratching at 3.54pm after refusing to load. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and the placegetters prior to 3.54 pm as following;
 
16c to the dollar for the win #6 (LAW OFFICE)
24c to the dollar for the place #6 (LAW OFFICE)
6c to the dollar for the place #3 (DIP DYE)
18c to the dollar for the place # (INVESTIBLE)
 
Trainer C Taylor was advised that TYDIVA would require a further barrier certificate prior to the filly starting again.
 
Race 5: VICTORIA TAVERN RATINGS BAND 0 - 60 Handicap 1100M
 
The start of this race was delayed approximately 2 minutes owing to a delay interstate at Scone.
 
Correct weight was delayed to allow stewards to give consideration to an objection lodged by N. Summers rider of the second placegetter LINGALONGA LASS against ELEGANT ZOUS (R.Wiggins) being declared the winner alleging interference from the 300m. It was established that ELEGANT ZOUS initially shifted out under pressure in the straight and made contact with LINGALONGA LASS nearing the 300m. Shortly thereafter, LINGALONGA LASS hung in making contact with ELEGANT ZOUS approaching the 150m and continued to lay in over the concluding stages. However bearing in mind the nature of the interference and the manner in which both horses finished the race off, as Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that had the interference to LINGALONGA LASS not occurred it would have beaten ELEGANT ZOUS home, the objection was dismissed and correct weight was declared.
 
Applicant – Approaching the 900m, became awkwardly placed to the inside of UPPER DELIGHT and as a result raced fierce for a number of strides. Continued to overrace rounding the home turn until entering the home straight.
 
Gypsy Biker – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
Such A Whit – Jumped away awkwardly, shifting out abruptly contacting LINGALONGA LASS.
 
Strawberry Blonde – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
Elegant Zous – Due to the start times being amended, R Wiggins was permitted to replace L Tilley who had prior transport arrangements. Jumped away awkwardly contacting the outside barrier partition. Overraced throughout the event.
 
Lingalonga Lass – Hampered on jumping.
 
Blazing Ash – Overraced in the early stages. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
Malvagio – Contacted on jumping.
 
Marron Cheval – Slow to begin. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
Race 6: CHARLIE'S PEST CONTROL BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1500M
 
Cavalero – Approaching the 300m, had to be restrained to avoid the heels of QUIDNI, who was carried out by VAN WINKEL, who was carried out by NOT LIABLE which shifted out under riding. Rider A Sewell was reprimanded for using his whip 6 times prior to the 100m, being one more than permissible under the rule.
 
Quidni – Approaching the 300m, was momentarily inconvenienced and carried wider by VAN WINKEL, who was carried out by NOT LIABLE which shifted out under riding.
 
Verbalizer (NZ) – Approaching the 300m, had to be restrained to avoid the heels of CAVALERO, who was carried out by QUIDNI, who was carried out by VAN WINKEL, who was carried out by NOT LIABLE which shifted out under riding. B Appo rider of NOT LIABLE pleaded not guilty to a charge of careless riding. An inquiry was adjourned to allow riders who had left the course to be present to give further evidence.
 
Svindal – Slow into stride. In the vicinity of the 1100m, had to be restrained after the pace of the race slackened. Overraced in the middle stages.
 
Native Bee – Slow into stride. Approaching the 300m, was momentarily inconvenienced by ROCK ‘N’ SOL which shifted out marginally. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
Finucane Missile – Restrained at the start to take a position closer to the rail.
 
Red Satin – Approaching the 1200m, had to be restrained off the heels of NOT LIABLE when the pace of the race slackened.
 
Van Winkel – Approaching the 300m, was momentarily inconvenienced and carried wider by NOT LIABLE which shifted out under riding.
 
Rock 'n' Sol – Slow into stride. Apprentice C Bayliss was reprimanded for using his whip 6 times prior to the 100m, being one more than permissible under the rule.
 
Coach – Approaching the 1200m, raced in restricted room between QUIDNI and RED SATIN and as the pace of the race slackened, had to be restrained.
 
Not Liable – Laid out under pressure in the straight.
 
Race 7: MILNER CONSTRUCTIONS Class 1 Handicap 1300M
 
Correct weight was delayed to allow rider of 2nd placegetter ANGOLA MISS, B Appo, to view the films to ascertain whether or not there were grounds for an objection. After viewing the films, he elected not to lodge an objection and correct weight was declared.
 
Stepped In Paint – Overraced in the early stages and approaching the 1100m, became awkwardly placed on the heels of SUPER KIDS and had to be checked. Continued to race fiercely throughout the event.
 
Charles Seven – Trainer J Wehlow advised of a change of tactics to attempt to settle midfield. Settled accordingly. Jumped awkwardly contacting SCENT OF FEAR. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey R Wiggins will be interviewed in regards to his use of the whip.
 
Scent Of Fear – Contacted on jumping. Apprentice C Bayliss was reprimanded for using his whip 6 times prior to the 100m, being one more than permissible under the rule.
 
Angola Miss – Approaching the 1200m, had to be restrained to avoid the heels of STEPPED IN PAINT who was racing fiercely. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
SUPER KIDS – Underwent a prerace veterinary examination after competing at Yeppoon on the 22nd August and was passed fit to start.
 
Ramrod – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
Carpe Noctem – Declared a late scratching at 3.54pm after injuring itself in the stabling area. Deductions applicable to bets placed on the winner and placegetters prior to 3.54 pm as following
