SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
 
From Mackay 20th April 2021 - Race 1
Stewards concluded an adjourned inquiry into Jockey Bobby El-Issa’s ride on LUCKY FOR SOME over the concluding stages of the event. After reviewing betting records and available race footage, stewards took no further action. Jockey El’Issa was reminded of his obligations to ride his mount out with sufficient vigour to the line.
 
From Mackay 21st May 2021 – Race 1
Trainer J Wiggington advised that ANGOLA MISS had pulled up well from its disappointing performance. He added that ANGOLA MISS had mild tenderness over the wither and had received chiropractic work and it was his intention to continue on with its current preparation.
 
GENERAL
As Jockey M. McGillivray was indisposed, stewards permitted replacements as per the stewards raceday summary.
 
Following the running of race 1, Queensland Ambulance Officers were required to assist a member of the general public. As such stewards permitted the following race time changes.

Race 1: QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1100 metres
 
JUNGLE BEAT – Jumped away awkwardly. Laid out throughout the event.  
 
CAPPY ROCKET – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer representative J Doolan was advised CAPPY ROCKET would be restricted to racing at country TAB and non-tab meetings until establishing competitive provincial form.
 
KOHEETO – Jumped away awkwardly and contacted the outside barrier partition. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
MISS MECCA – Overraced in the early and middle stages.
 
TILLY'S SECRET – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
CRAIGLEA BANDIT – Jumped away awkwardly. Overraced in the early and middle stages.
 
I'M STROLLING – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
Race 2: BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1600 metres
 
BANTU BAY – Slow to begin.
 
TEZOFF – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Rider A. Sewell was fined $500 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted. In determining penalty, stewards took into account that this is Jockey Sewell’s ninth offence since 8th August 2020.
 
COACH – Trainer R. Hay advised a change of tactics to settle further forward. Lead. Overraced in the early and middle stages. Rider C. Eaton was fined $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted. In determining penalty, stewards took into account that this is Jockey Eaton’s fourth offence since 8th August 2020.
 
 
Race 3: Class 4 Handicap 1050 metres
 
AUXIN – When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding which performed below market expectations, Jockey M. Hellyer stated that his mount travelled well in the early and middle stages but when placed under pressure his mount failed to respond and ran to the line in a disappointing manner. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery and showed signs of coughing.
 
EMMA'S JET – when questioned, Jockey A. Butler could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance but stated that being first up for a new trainer, would derive benefit for the run. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery.
 
PAUA – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
LORD GREYSTOKE – Jumped away awkwardly and failed to muster early gate speed. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
ASTRAL ODYSSEY – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start.
 
Race 4: Maiden Plate 1400 metres
 
GOLD CHORUS – Slow to begin.
 
UNDER THE PUMP – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight.
 
REFUTATION – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Rider B. Pengelly was fined $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on seven occasions prior to the 100m, two more than permitted. In determining penalty, stewards took into account that this is Jockey Pengelly’s fourth offence since 8th August 2020.
 
STUMPED – When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, Jockey R. Wiggings stated his mount failed to travel throughout the event and when placed under pressure his mount weakened noticeably. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr T Button was advised the gelding would be required to trial competitively prior to accepting for a future race.
 
VENTURES BENIR – Hung in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Trainer C. Smith was advised a warning would be placed on the record of the gelding.
 
CHAMPAGNE AT DAWN – Slow to begin.  Momentarily inconvenienced on entering the home straight by VENTURES BENIR which shifted in.
 
NEWSHOUND – Raced wide throughout the event.  Post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near hind leg. Trainer Mr J McConachy was advised a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required prior to accepting for any future race or trial.
 
CRAIGLEA CLINKERS – Rider reported that his mount laid out severely in the straight placing him at a disadvantage over the concluding stages. Trainer K. Johnston was advised a warning would be placed on the record of the filly. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
 
Race 5: QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1200 metres
 
MANHATTAN MOJO – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
STORMWATER – Contacted on jumping away and as a result became awkward in its stride.
 
CRAIGLEA BLIZZARD – contacted the running rail passing the 700m.
 
SHE’S IMPERIAL – Jockey R. Wiggins was fined $200 under the provisions of AR211(1) for returning to scale overweight.
 
BEGS BELIEF – Overraced in the early and middle stages.
 
ROMANTIQUE – Slow to begin.
 
Race 6: Class 1 Handicap 1200 metres
 
ARZANI (NZ) – A post-race veterinary examination revealed ARZANI (NZ) was displaying signs of a poor post-race recovery with significant bilateral nasal discharge. Trainer J. McConachy was advised a veterinary clearance of fitness would be required prior to accepting for a future race or trial.
 
TRAQ – Trainer A. Coome was fined $100 under AR206(3) for presenting the gelding with the incorrect gear and also $100 under LR67 for the late declaration of apprentice D. Graham.
 
KARBORS – Trainer C. Attard was fined $100 under AR206(3) for presenting the gelding with the incorrect gear.
 
LASTOFTHE MOHICANS – A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.  Trainer could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance but advised it was his intention to report back on the condition of the gelding in the subsequent days.
 
MY BOY MISCHKE – Became awkwardly placed on the heels of LEGAL CHANCE which shifted in marginally. Jockey C. Eaton, rider of LEGAL CHANCE, was reminded of her obligations to be clear when shifting ground in future.
 
BOLD ADVANCE – Raced wide throughout the event. Raced in restricted room passing the 300m.
 
Race 7: Class 6 Plate 1400 metres
 
BERING SEA – Slow to begin.
 
CHINCHINBILLA – Apprentice D. Graham was fined $800 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted. In determining penalty, stewards took into account that this is Apprentice Grahams thirteenth offence since 8th August 2020.
 
CINNAMON MISSILE – Slow to begin.
 
FLY FOR YULONG (IRE) – Rider M. Haley was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted. In determining penalty, stewards took into account that this is Jockey Haley’s first offence since 8th August 2020.
 
SPIRIT ESPRIT – Jockey R. Wiggins was fined $300 under the provisions of AR211(1) for returning to scale overweight.
