Williams SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTFrom Mackay 17 June 2021 – Race 8.Stewards concluded an inquiry into the use of whip on PRINCESS RULES by apprentice Cody Collis in race 8 at the Mackay Turf Club. After hearing submissions from Trainer F Smith, master of Apprentice Collis, Apprentice Collis was issued with a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on 8 occasions prior to the 100m, 3 more than permitted. Apprentice Collis had his license to ride in races suspended for a period of 28 days to commence midnight 26 June 2021 to conclude midnight 24 July 2021. In considering penalty, stewards took into account this was Apprentice Collis’ thirteenth breach of this rule since 8 August 2020. Stewards also ordered Apprentice Collis to attend the riding skills panel for remedial training in relation to his whip use under AR144(2). Race 1: BUTLER PARTNERS QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Handicap1300 metres The start of this race was delayed approximately 3 minutes due to several runners being reluctant to load. LASCO – Slow into stride. Overraced in the early and middle stages. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. BOOTLACE – Raced wide throughout the event. MISHANI DREAMER – Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages. Rider N. Day was fined $600 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted. When determining penalty stewards took into account that this is Jockey Day’s eleventh offence under this rule since 8 August 2020. CALPURNIA – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Race 2: CAPRICORN SURVEY GROUP (CQ) Class 3 Plate 1600 metres Correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey C. Whiteley, rider of third placegetter KOTABHARU, to view the photo finish. Once satisfied of the judge’s decision, correct weight was declared. SAHAR (NZ) – A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off hind leg. Trainer Mr R.Hay was advised a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required prior to accepting for a future race or trial. TONTEIN – Overraced in the early and middle stages. ANGOLA MISS – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. DREAM THE DAY AWAY – Trainers representative Ms J. Doolan was advised that the gelding would be restricted to racing at non-TAB venues until displaying competitive form. MAIN DE FOI – Weakened over the concluding stages. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have bled from both nostrils on the first occasion. Trainer N. Mccall was advised over the provisions of AR79(4). Race 3: MICHEL'S PATISSERIE BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1200 metres DANAWI – Jumped away awkwardly. Overraced in the early and middle stages. Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 200m by CHARLES SEVEN which shifted out slightly. Jockey A. Butler, rider of CHARLES SEVEN, was reminded of his obligations to stop and straighten his mounts when they shift ground in future. Rider D. Simmons was fined $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted. When determining penalty, stewards took into account that this was Jockey Simmons fourth offence since 8 August 2020. MARMARIS – Slow to begin. CHARLES SEVEN – Laid out when placed under pressure in the straight. Following the running of this event, the track was upgraded to a Soft 5. Race 4: SOUTHSIDE HOLIDAY VILLAGE OPEN Handicap 1400 metres MR PHENOMENAL – Slow to begin. Overraced in the early and middle stages. When questioned in relation to Jockey C Caserta’s riding of MR PHENOMENAL in the home straight, in particular passing the 300m when Jockey Caserta restrained his mount resulting in SRINI being able to improve to his inside. Jockey Caserta stated that approaching the 300m he was aware that SRINI was held up behind runners and was looking to shift out to improve. He added that he was mindful that MR PHENOMENAL was not travelling at that stage of the event to maintain his position and when SRINI commenced to shift out, he restrained to avoid SRINI’s heels as he felt he was racing in an awkward position. He added that as soon as he realised that SRINI had stopped and straightened, he commenced to ride with vigour but at that stage SRINI had already improved into the run. Stewards noted Jockey Caserta’s explanation. SPRING CREEK – Jumped away awkwardly. Overraced in the early and middle stages. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. JAY JAY – Rider M Stephens was fined $600 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on nine occasions prior to the 100m, four more than permitted. When determining penalty, stewards took into account this is Jockey Stephens third offence since 8 August 2020. SRINI – Slow to begin. Race 5: SLB INVESTMENTS QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap 1100 metres OUR STORMY GIRL – Late scratching at 8.00am due to no available rider. ALOTTA ATTITUDE – Jumped away awkwardly and was hampered shortly after jumping. Overraced in the early and middle stages. Passing the 800m had to be restrained to avoid the heels of MISHANI MORTAL which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Jockey N Day, rider of MISHANI MORTAL, plead guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provision of AR131(a). Jockey Day had his licence to ride in races suspended for seven days to commence midnight 27 June 2021 and to expire midnight 4 July 2021. MISSY MILE – Jumped away awkwardly. TOY WHITTY – Overraced throughout the event. Passing the 800m had to restrained to avoid the heels of MISSY MILE which shifted in. Jockey C. Whitely, rider of MISSY MILE, was reminded of his obligations to be clear when shifting ground. Race 6: TAB RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 Handicap 1300 metre STARSONIC – Rider reported that his mount felt awkward in its action over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Rider J. Baker was fined $400 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on nine occasions prior to the 100m, four more than permitted. When considering penalty, stewards took into account that this was Jockey Bakers first offence since 8 August 2020. HAALAN – Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 300m when MORE THAN LUCK shifted out despite the efforts of its rider. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had bled from both nostrils. As this was the second occasion, Trainer N. Walsh was advised that HAALAN would be barred from racing. KOTA FLYER – A post race veterinary examination revealed a poor post race recovery MORE THAN LUCK – Jumped away awkwardly and shifted out abruptly. Shifted out abruptly over the concluding stages when weakening. A post race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had lacerations to the tongue. NO HARM DONE – Hampered on jumping away. NAVARRE – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Rider reported that in his opinion the gelding is better suited to racing over further distances.
