QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT ROCKHAMPTON JOCKEY CLUB Inc ROCKHAMPTON – TUESDAY 22 MARCH 2022 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Soft 5 (Good 4 following race 2) RAIL – +7.5m PENETROMETER – 5.35 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – B. Cousins GENERAL Jockey Ryan Wiggins was fined $400 under AR 190(3) for accepting engagements for which he was unable to make the weight in race 1 on BUDDHA and race 5 on RAIDEN. Apprentice Sheridan Tomlinson was fined $200 under AR 143(14)(a) for failing to claim his full allowance on AUVERGNE in race 7 and was subsequently replaced by Apprentice Jockey Montana Philpot. Apprentice Sheridan Tomlinson was fined $300 under AR143(14)(a) for failing to claim his full allowance in race 6 on AUSSIE TYCOON. Race 1: ROCKHAMPTON WHOLESALE BAKEHOUSE Maiden Handicap 1300 Metres LITTLE MISS PEGGY- Began awkwardly. Inclined to hang out from the 700m. Commenced to weaken from the 400m when placed under pressure. Jockey Adam Sewell advised that the filly travelled well until being placed under pressure and then failed to respond to his riding thereafter. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. A warning was issued for the filly’s performance. EXALTED – Held up near the 600m before shifting out to obtain clear running. BUDDHA – Reared over on the way to barriers. Declared late scratching at 1.33pm on vets’ advice. Declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 1:33pm. Stewards ordered that all monies invested in BUDDHA be refunded with the following deductions to apply: 32 cents in the dollar for the win - #4 SETHLANS 27 cents in the dollar for the place of winner - #4 SETHLANS 29 cents in the dollar for 2nd placegetter – #3 PLATINUM ROSE Trainer Ricky Vale was advised that a vet clearance would be required prior to the gelding’s next race start. Mr Vale was further advised that the gelding would require an official trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to returning to racing. THORBEN – Began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover before obtaining the position outside the leader with 900m. Race 2: REGIONAL INSURANCE BROKERS QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1050 Metres JUST SUPER – Began awkwardly, contacting the outside barrier partition and lost ground. CHINNY BOOM – Shifted ground outwards over the concluding stages. CRAIGLEA IZZY – Began awkwardly. FORTY FOUR FLYER – Began awkwardly, shifting in onto CHINNY BOOM. Raced three-wide without cover. SAMMIBALLERINA – Began awkwardly. GLORIOUS KATHY – Raced wide without cover. PINOCCHIO LASS – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 900m, was tightened for room and checked when SAMMIBALLERINA shifted inwards marginally. MARSHY – Raced greenly in the home straight. Race 3: GREEN STEEL QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap 1200 Metres Correct weight was delayed allowing connections of FIRE KING (placed 3rd) to view the replays of an incident at the 700m. After viewing the replays connections declined to lodge a protest and correct weight was declared. FIRE KING – Jockey Ashley Butler was reprimanded under AR 132(7)(a)(ii) for his use of the whip 6 times prior to the 100m. AGUSTAWYND – Fractious prior to the start. Lost ground soon after the start after making heavy contact with BOUDICA’S GIFT placing its rider momentarily unbalanced. ART BY CONCORDE – Raced keenly during the early stages. Shifted out near the 700m making contact with FIRE KING. BOUDICA'S GIFT – Fractious prior to the start. Began awkwardly making heavy contact with AUGUSTAWYND.Race 4: LJ HOOKER ROCKHAMPTON QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap 1200 Metres STREET GLORY – Began awkwardly. Near the 300m attempted a narrow run to the inside of DEVIL KICK and was tightened for room and checked. Jockey Montana Philpot was spoken to advisedly regarding the manner of how she rode at this point of the race. Apprentice Philpot was queried with the tactics adopted during the initial stages, in particular her decision to restrain her mount to rearward position. Apprentice Philpot advised the instructions from connection was to restrain initially to obtain some cover. Miss Philpot then stated, that after being wide initially she was mindful of racing wide around the first turn so elected to restrain as instructed. The rider also stated that due to the tempo being fast, STREET GLORY lost momentum and therefore she elected to ride for luck over the final 600m. Miss Philpot added, that in hindsight she may have been better served to have ridden in a more positive manner during the early stages. When considering the explanation of the rider and the circumstances of the race, stewards did not feel the tactics adopted by Ms Philpot were so unreasonable that they warranted action being taken. READYENTIME – Began awkwardly and then raced three-wide without cover throughout. DEVIL KICK – Slow to begin and then shifted in under pressure in the home straight. DOUBLE PROOF – Began awkwardly. MY DAD'S BETTER – Jockey Sairyn Fawke reported that he was of the view his mount had been galloped on during the run. Post-race veterinary examination revealed lacerations to both hind legs. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to its next start. Race 5: GARRARD’S HORSE AND HOUND OPEN Handicap 1100 Metres BARACHIEL – Raced keenly during the initial stages when being restrained. REVENIRE – Raced wide without cover throughout. KRAVITZ – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. FINUCANE MISSILE – Fractious before the start and began awkwardly. MOCIAL CHIEF – When racing keenly near the 650m, improved onto the heels of EMILEE’S EMPIRE and was forced to steady. Race 6: HYGAIN MITAVITE CYS CARNIVAL BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1500 Metres GEOFFROY – Steadied off heels near the 650m. FUTURE IDEA (NZ) – Began awkwardly. STAR OF LEON – Race three-wide throughout with cover.DUBLE GAZE – Shifted wider to obtain a clear run approaching the 300m. Apprentice J. Molloy was suspended under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for his use of the whip nine times prior to the 100m to commence midnight March 32st and to conclude midnight April 7th. ANGOLA MISS – Stood flat footed losing significant ground. WHAT A THOUGHT – Raced three-wide without cover throughout. AUSSIE TYCOON – Held up for clear running rounding home turn. Jockey Sheridan Tomlinson was fined $300 under AR 143(14)(a) for failing to claim his full allowance. In adopting this approach, stewards were mindful of the riders most recent poor record and that he maintained the ride on this occasion. Race 7: HYGAIN MITAVITE CYS – SUNDAY 10 APRIL BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1300 Metres BRIGALOW BOY – Raced wide early before obtaining the position outside the leader with 900m to run. DARK ARCHER – Began awkwardly bumping with MERIDA’S BOW. BLONDES DAY OUT – Upon arriving on course, Trainer Darryl Gardiner advised stewards that while travelling to the meeting, BLONDES DAY OUT had injured itself on the float. A veterinary examination revealed the mare to have multiple lacerations, especially on both hind legs and was subsequently scratched on vets’ advice at 2:33pm. Trainer Gardiner was advised that BLONES DAY OUT would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start. POETIC FINAL SAY – Held up for majority of the home straight. Hung out while attempting a run to the inside of BRIGALOW BOY near the 300m and as a result was forced to steady from heels. THE SILVER LADY – Very slow to begin and trailed the field before being retired from the event. Jockey Marnu Potgieter reported that he felt something was amiss with the mare. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Connections were advised that the mare would be stood down from racing until the completion of a satisfactory trial.
