PENETROMETER – 5.22 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – B. Cooke Stewards – S. Larkins, D. Macklyn, G. Meek, H. Gillett Clerk of Scales – G. Wust Judge – S. Brynt Veterinarian – Dr S. Olsen Swab Attendants – E. Burgess Starter – T. Williams GENERAL Following 6 millimeters of rainfall at 10am the track was downgraded to a soft (6) prior to the running of race one. Race 1: ST PATRICK'S RACEDAY SATURDAY 18TH MARCH QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Hand 1050 metres The start of this event was delayed to allow the running of an interstate event. MISHANI TWIGHLIGHT – Bumped on jumping. ALLOUTATIME – Began awkwardly. Hung out from the 600m. MISHANI VALOUR – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Tailed off from the 700m taking no further competitive part in the event. Jockey C. Whitely could offer no explanation for the seemingly disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Trainer J. Manzelmann was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding. MOUNT MARGARET – Laid In when placed under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice T. Fenlon was issued a reprimand under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for her use of the whip 7 times prior to the 100m. TORELLIANA – Steadied to avoid heels near the 750m. Race 2: BOOK YOUR TABLE FOR ST PATRICK'S RACEDAY TODAY Maiden Handicap 1500 metres DOOTHAKARMICHAEL – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. EMPIRE CLUB – Began awkwardly. TORQUE IS SAVVY – Slow to begin. No Further Racing Incidents Race 3: TAB Class 3 Plate 1600 metres BRAZEN BRECCIA – Raced wide in the early stages before obtaining a position outside the leader near the 1200m. Commenced to weaken from the 500m taking no further competitive part in the event. Jockey J. Taylor advised that his mount travelled well until the 500m where in his opinion the gelding became awkward in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Trainer J. Manzelmann reported that in his opinion the gelding is somewhat difficult to train and does not consistently perform to the best of his ability. GRANT'S PATCH – Began awkwardly. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. No further racing incidents Race 4: GREAT NORTHERN Class 6 Handicap 1200 metres GUNTANTES – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. YULONG SOVEREIGN – Began awkwardly. CHECKERS (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Jockey J. Stanley was issued a reprimand under AR132(5) for his use of the whip 15 times throughout the event. Race 5: RENEW OR JOIN 2023 RJC MEMBERSHIP RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 Handicap 1050 metres NUKE – Began awkwardly. CHALKLEY – Raced wide in the early and middle stages. BIG ROCKET – Bumped on jumping. ROCKETING TO WIN – Began awkwardly. Apprentice Y. Lewis was fined $200 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for her use of the whip 8 times prior to the 100m. CRAIGLEA ICON – Tightened for room on jumping and lost ground. SHE'S OUT THERE – Began awkwardly. CHESTO'S DREAM – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Race 6: WELL WISHES TO NICKY SEYMOUR QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1300 metres TAKERU – Declared a late scratching at the request of the trainer at 4:53pm due to the deteriorating track conditions. Stewards ordered that all monies invested in TAKERU be refunded with the following deductions to apply: 1 cents in the dollar for the win - #117 cents in the dollar for the place of winner - #112 cents in the dollar for 2nd placegetter – #18 cents in the dollar for 3rd placegetter - #6 Trainer L. Birchley was advised that due to the late scratching, the gelding would be barred from racing on tracks rated a soft(6) or worse. EYE PEE OH READY – Began awkwardly. Upon returning to scale Jockey L. Tilley advised his mount failed to handle the softer conditions of todays event. LEVALET – Slow to begin SIZZLING SAMURAI- Began awkwardly DOOM DIVA – Jockey A. Layt dropped his whip near the 300m. JUST LET IT OUT – Over raced in the early stages AZURE DE LAGO – Began awkwardly. Race 7: 2023 CAPRICORN YEARLING SALE RACE 31ST MARCH-1ST APRIL BENCHMARK 58 Ha 1300 metres The track was downgraded to a heavy (8) prior to the running of this event. ORNATE – Jockey L. Tilley was issued a reprimand under AR 132(7)(a)(ii) for his use of the whip 7 occasions prior to the 100m HIGHGROUND – Raced keen in the early stages OH SO REWARDING – Began awkwardly. Commenced to weaken from the 600m taking no further competitive part in the event. Jockey J. Murphy advised that after travelling well in the early and middle stages his mount failed to respond when placed under pressure from the 600m. He further added that in his opinion the gelding may have failed to handle the softer conditions of todays event. Post-race veterinary examination failed to show any significant abnormalities. DOLLAR DOLLAR (NZ) – Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight. FAR REACHING – Apprentice Y. Lewis was fined $200 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for her use of the whip 8 times prior to the 100m FUTURE IDEA (NZ) – Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight making heavy contact with SUNDARA over the concluding stages.
