GENERAL
The following weight alteration was authorised by Stewards.
Race 1: R Wiggins – SHEZAPEARLER - + 0.5kg

Due to the postponement of the Ipswich meeting to the same day as Rockhampton jockey Taylor Marshall was unable to attend and was replaced on his mounts as per the summary.

The following horses were all inspected by the veterinarian and cleared to race after starting within the previous seven days.

LEVALET,MARSHY, DAUNTING LADY, MISHANI PLATINUM, MISTER LARRABEE, MISHANI TULIP, HUNUA HANK, MILKY ROCKET, WHISKEY ROW, QUEENSLANDER and TEST OF WAR.

Race 1: TAB QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1100 metres

SHORT NAP – Laid inwards under pressure in the home straight.

CHUCKA DUMMY – Slow to begin and bumped with SEA MUD “N” SUN. Hung out rounding the turn near the 800m. Checked when racing keenly and improving onto heels near the 700m. Raced greenly in the early part of the home straight.

CRYPTESS – Fractious in the barriers. Slow to begin. Raced wide over the early stages. Leaving the 200m had to be restrained when CHUCKA DUMMY laid inwards when improving to its outside and shifted wider to obtain clear running over the concluding stages.

SEA MUD 'N' SUN – Slow to begin and bumped with CHUKA DUMMY at the start. Hung out rounding the turn near the 800m.

SEND THE MONEY – Shifted inwards at the jump impeding I’M FAMOUS. Jockey J Murphy was fined $200 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip to his mount on seven occasions prior to the 100m two more than permitted.

SHE'SGOTACCESS – Raced wide through the early stages. Raced keenly during the early stages. Bumped with SHEZAPEARLER near the 400m.

SHEZAPEARLER – Fractious prior to the start. Slow to begin. Bumped with SHE’SGOTACCESS near the 400m. Hung in and raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.

I'M FAMOUS – Slow to begin. Impeded after the start.


Race 2: CAPRICORNIA YEARLING SALE 11AM SUNDAY OPEN Handicap 1500 metres

VINASTA – Began awkwardly. Jockey M Murphy was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip to his mount on six occasions prior to the 100m one more than permitted.

SPRING CREEK – Slow to begin. Angled off heels near the 400m to gain clear racing room.

JAY JAY – Slow to begin.

BERING SEA – Raced keenly early stages. Jockey C McIver was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip to his mount on six occasions prior to the 100m one more than permitted.

TEZOFF – Hung in under pressure in the home straight.


Race 3: CYS SALES 2YO CLASSIC CALCUTTA TONIGHT Maiden Handicap 1500 metres

FLAWLESS AMBITION – Made the turn near the 800m awkwardly when hanging out carrying CAERUS wider on the track. Hung out rounding the home turn then hung in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

CAERUS – Carried wider around the turn near the 800m. Jockey J Stanley was queried in relation to the gelding’s failure to run on over the concluding stages. Mr Stanley advised that his mount over raced early which contributed to the performance. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities other than a poor post-race recovery rate.

IKIGAI STAR – Jockey J Murphy was fined $200 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip to his mount on seven occasions prior to the 100m two more than permitted.


VANA STAR – Slow to begin. Shifted ground outwards near the 400m to obtain clear racing room and commenced to raced greenly thereafter.

LEVALET – Slow to begin.

MARSHY – Jockey G Cartwright was fined $200 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip to his mount on eight occasions prior to the 100m three more than permitted.

PRIZED BENEFIT – Improved onto heels near the 700m and had to be steadied.


Race 4: SAVE THE DATE ROCKY CUP JULY 8TH QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1300 metres

DESERT MOON – Hung in under pressure in the home straight.

RED FLASH – Difficult to load.

SIZZLING SAMURAI – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. Hung in under pressure in the home straight.

DAUNTING LADY – Over raced in the early stages.

GRAND ASCENT – Reared at the start and as a result and was slow to begin. Over raced in the early stages and shifted outwards abruptly near the 900m bumping HEROIC INSTINCT.

HEROIC INSTINCT – Impeded by GRAND ASCENT near the 900m.


Race 5: BROWN BROTHERS 2023 COUNTRY CUP BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1600 metres

The start was delayed by two minutes due to WHISKEY ROW requiring remedial farrier work upon arrival at the start.

ART BY CONCORDE – Laid out under pressure over the final 200m.

MISTER LARRABEE – Stood flat footed and was very slow to begin losing considerable ground. Trainer J Manzelmann was advised the gelding is required to complete a satisfactorily barrier trial on one occasion before resuming racing.

GRANT'S PATCH – Held for a clear run in the early part of the home straight. Jockey C McIver was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip to his mount on six occasions prior to the 100m one more than permitted.

GOLDEN ATHENA – Slow to begin.

MISHANI TULIP – Slow to begin. Briefly held up for a clear run approaching the 400m.

RUFFIN' IT (NZ) – Jockey G Cartwright was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip to her mount on six occasions prior to the 100m one more than permitted.

HUNUA HANK (NZ) – Slow to begin.

MILKY ROCKET – Slow to begin. Hung in under pressure in the home straight.

WHISKEY ROW – Over raced when leading during the early and middle stages.


Race 6: PHIL PEEL JEWELLERS QTIS RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 Handicap1200 metres

Correct weight for this race was delayed to allow Jockey Ryan Wiggins (EYE PEE OH READY) placed 2nd to view the photo finish. After viewing the photo finish Mr Wiggins was satisfied with the judges result. Correct weight was further delayed to allow stewards to view the photo finish for 3rd placing. As stewards were satisfied that the placings were correct, correct weight was declared as per the judges placings.

AIDENABET – Jockey A Sewell dropped his whip when approaching the finish.

MR DEMOLITION – Hung in under pressure in the home straight. Raced wide with cover throughout.

EYE PEE OH READY – Made contact with CRAIG AND HOFF on jumping. Improved onto heels near the 800m and shifted outwards carrying CRAIG AND HOFF wider.

YAMUMZA – Began awkwardly and the raced ungenerously in the early stages.

CRAIG AND HOFF – Made contact with EYE PEE OH READY on jumping. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

EXALTED – Fractious prior to the start and was slow to begin.

LYNRIC LASS – Raced wide throughout

ALEACO – Raced keenly approaching the 800m.


Race 7: IN MEMORY OF LEN MILNER QTIS RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 Handicap 1200 metres

BOLD ENFORCER – Fractious in the barriers. Checked leaving the 700m.

FAMUS FELLA – Slow to begin.

QUEENSLANDER – Raced wide early. Hung inwards during the running. Apprentice Jade Doolan (assisted by senior jockey T Brooker) pleaded guilty to a charge under AR131(a) for careless riding, in that leaving the 700m she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of SHE’S OUT THERE which was severely checked and in turn, TOP SPY, BOLD ENFORCER and ITSA CALAMITY were all checked to varying degrees. Ms Doolan’s race day riding license was suspended for a period of 11 days from midnight 8th April – midnight 19th April 2023.

TOP SPY – Badly checked leaving the 700m.

SWEET WAY'S – Fractious in the barriers.

SHE'S OUT THERE – Severely checked leaving the 700m.

ITSA CLAMITY – Raced wide throughout. Tightened and checked leaving the 700m.


Race 8: A DAYS GRAZE CATERING Class 6 Plate 1200 metres

WAIT A MINUTE – Slow to begin.

KASINOVA KID – Raced wide through the early stages.

KNIGHT'S SWORD – Raced keenly through the early and middle stages.

STARHATTAN – Slow to begin.

MAIN DE FOI – Slow into stride.


Race 9: GREAT NORTHERN BENCHMARK 58 Handicap 1400 metres

STUBAI – Raced keenly through the early stages. Shifted inwards shortly after the start crowding runners to its inside. Raced wide throughout.

FORSETI – Shifted inwards at the start tightening runners to the inside.

IMPACTFUL – Tightened after the start.

TUSCANY BOUND – Slow into stride.

TRI NATIONS – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.

HARVESTA – Raced wide throughout.

BRAVE MASO – Tightened after the start. Held up for clear racing room in the early stages of the run home.

LYRICAL LOVER – Jumped away awkwardly.

DEVIL KICK – Tightened at the start. Restrained and tightened after approximately 200m. Stewards conducted an inquiry into the tightening of DEVIL KICK after 200m. Stewards questioned jockeys R Wiggins (DEVIL KICK), L Tilley (TOP SPY), J Murphy (FORSETI) and J Taylor (HARVESTA) in relation to the incident. After speaking to all riders involved Stewards established the incident was due to general tightening of several runners and were unable to apportion blame on any one rider or horse with no further action taken.

JUST LET IT OUT – Raced keenly early stages.

ASSERTIN LADY – Raced keenly while leading through the early and middle stages.

THUNDER KNOB – Tightened soon after the start. Improved onto heels near the 800m and had to be steadied.

PHOENIX FLYER – Tightened for room and had to be checked in the early stages when ORNATE shifted inwards. Held up for clear racing room until the middle stages of the run home.
