GENERAL
Overweight approved as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
 
Race 1: 1 GREAT NORTHERN QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1100 metres
 
BETTER BE LUCKY – Approaching the turn near the 900m bumped with THE LAST SAGA. Over raced in the early stages. Hung in under pressure in the home straight.
 
POWDER FACTOR – Began awkwardly and bumped with ANNIE’S TOP. Over raced in the early stages. Raced wide throughout.
 
THE LAST SAGA – Began awkwardly and bumped with BETTER BE LUCKY. Approaching the 900m turn bumped with BETTER BE LUCKY. Raced wide throughout. Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.
 
LITTLE MISS BELLE – Proved difficult to load and delayed the start. Connections were advised that a warning has now been issued for the filly’s loading manners. Slow to begin.
 
ANNIE'S TOP – Began awkwardly and slipped behind. Bumped with POWDER FACTOR at the start. Raced wide throughout. Hung in under pressure in the home straight.
 
AZURE DE LAGO – Bumped soon after the start and settled well back. Held up for clear racing room in the early part of the home straight. Hung in under pressure.
 
 
Race 2: 2 PAC PLUS WHOLESALERS BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1200 metres
 
MUIRON – Shifted ground outwards noticeably leaving the 400m. Inconvenienced near the 180m. Jockey Cheryl Rogers pleaded guilty to a charge under AR131(a) for careless riding, in that leaving the 400m she carelessly allowed her mount to shift outwards noticeably resulting in SACCA being checked and carried wider for some distance. The license to ride in races of Ms Rogers was suspended for 10 days to commence midnight the 24th of June and conclude midnight 4th July 2023.
 
CENTAUR – Carried wider leaving the 200m.
 
SABOR – Held up for clear running in the early part of the home straight. Shifted out under pressure from the 200m inconveniencing SWEET FANTASY, which in turn inconvenienced MUIRON.
 
SIDEARM – Began awkwardly.
 
UNASSAILABLE – Jockey A Butler advised that his mount was disappointing and failed to respond to his efforts when the tempo of the race quickened. Trainer J Wehlow advised that this was the first start for the mare at the track and after settling further back than anticipated the performance was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.
 
SACCA – Began awkward. Raced wide throughout. Checked and carried wider leaving the 400m.
 
SWEET FANTASY – Slow to begin. Inconvenienced near the 200m.
 
 
Race 3: 3 EDENBROOK QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1300 metres
 
RIVERVIEW RED – Slow into stride. Sharply shifted out around the 1000m. Raced in restricted room briefly leaving the 400m.
 
BIKER – Slow into stride. Raced wide throughout. Impeded and carried wider around the 1000m turn.
 
SERGEANT'S PRIDE – Slow into stride.
 
 
MISHANI STAR – Hung in early in the home straight when being shifted wider to obtain clear running. Connections advised that they attributed the improved performance to the filly showing gradual improvement in recent times, the small field, the fast tempo and MISHANI STAR not having to endure and work in the run. Connections also added that the step up in distance was advantageous.
 
 
Race 4: ELDERS REAL ESTATE YEPPOON BENCHMARK 58 Handicap 1600 metres
 
MATADOR – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
 
ZIPPING IRISH – Jockey A Butler was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of his whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m.
 
DEVIL KICK – Connections advised that they are of the opinion that the filly does not genuinely get the 1600m of todays race and would restrict upcoming races to a lesser distance.
 
HYPERION STAR (NZ) – Bumped with SAW THAT COMING at the start. Raced ungenerously early when being restrained.
 
SAW THAT COMING – Began awkwardly bumping with HYPERION STAR. Tightened soon after the start.
 
NAUGHTY POSSUM – Trainer S Rundle was fined $200 under AR106(1) for presenting the filly to race in incorrectly notified gear (nose roll). Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 5: TAB OPEN Handicap 1400 metres
 
BARACHIEL – Slow to begin.
 
STARSONIC – Over raced in the middle stages.
 
READY FOR MAGIC – Began awkwardly and bumped with SAVOURY (NZ).
 
SAVOURY (NZ) – Began awkwardly and bumped with READY FOR MAGIC. A post-race veterinary examination revealed blood in the mouth, however this was assessed as nil significance.
 
SPRING CREEK – Laid in under pressure.
 
 
Race 6: ROCKY SPORTS CLUB Maiden Plate 1400 metres
 
JUNGLELAND – Slow into stride. Jockey C Rogers was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of his whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m.
 
KAYTEE REINADO – Trainer K Smyth advised that he had only recently taken over the training of the gelding and trackwork leading into today’s race had not given him confidence to make a proper assessment of KAYTEE REINADO’S capabilities. The trainer added he was disappointed with the performance and would look to make gear changes and further assessments. Jockey C Whiteley advised that he felt the gelding raced flat and one paced. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.
 
YANDOOBIE – raced ungenerously for a short distance around the turn near the 800m.
 
OUR GOLD CLAIM – Connections advised that they intended to ride the gelding more positive. Ridden accordingly.
 
RED FLASH – Jockey C McIver was fined $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for his use of the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted.
 
SENSATIONABULL – Bumped with REGAL FIELD at the start.
 
REGAL FIELD – Began awkwardly at the start bumping with SENSATIONABULL and as a result was slow to begin. Hung in under pressure over the final 300m and as a result had to check out and away from the heels of YANDOOBIE.
