Race 1: GREAT NORTHERN Maiden Handicap 1100 metres MUZZEDSO (NZ) – Bumped by QUEEN TAMAR at the start and in turn bumped STAZY. QUEEN TAMAR – Jumped out at the start and bumped MUZZEDSO (NZ). Dipped near the 900m when inclined to over race. Jockey J Murphy advised that the filly felt awkward in its action during the run. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. DEEP MYTH – Was declared a late scratching at 12.54pm on veterinary advice after rearing in the mounting yard and slipping over resulting in rider W Satherley being harmlessly dislodged. Was vetted behind the barriers and found to have noticeable abrasions to the near hind and forelegs. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance is required prior to the filly’s next start. Prior to correct weight, stewards ordered the following betting deductions; tickets to be paid less 14 cents the win and 3 cents for the winner and less 37 cents for second place. MISS RINEHART – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after becoming fractious in the float when being transported to the track. A minor graze to the near hindquarter was detected and the mare was cleared to start. Hung in under pressure in the home straight. STAZY – Bumped at the start. Race 2: CA PEST CONTROLLER RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 Handicap 1050 metres ASTRAL ODYSSEY – Slow to begin and jumped outwards at the start. DENIMS – Slow to begin and was checked at the start when BUSH jumped outwards. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight. FAV'S FLYER – Hung in under pressure in the home straight. STRUAN LAD – Slow to begin. SWISS ELEMENT – A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the near foreleg and connections were advised that a veterinary clearance is required prior to the gelding’s next start. BUSH – Began awkwardly and bumped DENIMS. Raced wide throughout. ASHERLA – Began awkwardly. CRAIGLEA LAKI – Raced wide throughout and hung in under pressure in the home straight. KASHKAR – Jockey W Satherley advised that he felt the mare’s run had ended near the 300m and fitness benefit would be derived considering KASHKAR was first up since 19 January 2023. Trainer N Walsh concurred with the thoughts of the rider. Race 3: DYNAMIC ELECTRICAL AND REFRIGERATION Class 1Handicap 1600 metres UNDER THE CAP – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. GILBERT'S GOLD – Over raced in the early stages when being restrained to take a trail. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. NASHA – Progressed three wide early to obtain the lead near the 1000m. UNCONVENTIONALLADY – Held up for clear running until leaving the 400m. Stable representative M Johnstone, when questioned, advised that the noticeable turn around in form compared to the last start was not overly surprising considering the form of UNCONVENTIONALLADY prior to her last start failure. It was advised that the addition of a tongue tie was the overriding factor based on the stables view that the mare likely got her tongue over the bit last start and may have choked down on that occasion. Race 4: TAB BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1400 metres KOBE ROCKS (NZ) – Progressed forward three wide in the initial stages. Inclined to lay in under pressure. READY BY DESIGN – Bumped at the start by MOST IMPRESSIVE (NZ). SANTORINI SUMMER – Slow to begin. Bumped on two occasions with DEVIL KICK over the final 100m. MOST IMPRESSIVE (NZ) – Jumped in at the start and bumped READY BY DESIGN. I AM CLEVER – Jockey C Whiteley, when questioned, advised that the gelding endured a soft run throughout, however failed to quicken leaving the 600m when the tempo of the race increased. The rider added that from that point on his mount raced flat. A Post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities other than a slower than expected recovery. C Whiteley was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted. DEVIL KICK – Rider viewed the replays prior to correct weight in relation to being bumped by second placed DEVIL KICK over the final 100m. After viewing the replays W Satherley declined to proceed and correct weight was not delayed. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Bumped with SANTORINI SUMMER on two occasions over the final 100m. W Satherley was fined $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for his use of the whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m, 2 more than permitted. COSMIC BULLET – Slow to begin. Race 5: ELITE IMAGING GROUP Class 3 Handicap 1200 metres HARD REYVA – Bumped by TIOGA PASS leaving the 400m. TIOGA PASS – Held up for clear running until leaving the 400m and bumped with HARD REYVA when shifting outwards. DOLLAR DOLLAR (NZ) – Slow to begin. THE GRADUATE – Slow to begin. Over raced near the 900m and was awkwardly placed on heels for a number of strides. Race 6: GARRARDS TATTERSALLS SPRINT OPEN Handicap1200 metres CONSTANT FLIGHT – Slow to begin. Hung in under pressure in the home straight.GAMBOA – Began awkwardly. Over raced initially when looking to obtain cover. Bumped near the 200m. Rider A Layt, when questioned, advised that his mount travelled well until the 300m and then failed to let down from that point onwards. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.HOLIDAY DREAMS – Held up for clear running until the 200m and bumped GAMBOA when shifting outwards. BROCKY – Hung in under pressure in the home straight. Race 7: HIGHGROVE BATHROOMS NORTHERN JEWEL QTIS 3YOHandicap 1400 metres HONKYTONK DIVA – Bumped after the start. WHISTLING SPIRIT – Began awkwardly.STREET GLORY – Raced wide throughout. TEQUILA DANCER – Raced keen early when looking to obtain cover.ROADTRIP – Reared at the start and lost ground. Jockey A Layt was fined $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for his use of the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted.SOARING SPIRIT – Began awkwardly and shifted out at the start bumping HONKYTONK DIVA. TOP SPY – Began awkwardly. Awkwardly placed on heels leaving the 300m and soon after was bumped inwards by PARISIAN LADY, which hung in briefly, resulting in TOP SPY checking across the heels of STEP THIS WAY which had shifted outwards at the same time. Soon after when still unbalanced bumped again with PARISIAN LADY. A post-race veterinary examination of the filly revealed lameness in the near foreleg. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again. PARISIAN LADY – Hung in briefly near the 250m and soon after bumped with TOP SPY.ALPHA JANE – Began awkwardly. Jockey T Brooker advised that her mount felt awkward in its action during the run. A post-race veterinary examination of the filly revealed no apparent abnormalities.
