SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
Gladstone 24 June 2023;
Trainer K Smyth advised that subsequent to winning CARDANO pulled up tight in the hamstrings after racing on the sand surface and would likely be spelled.
 
GENERAL
WHISKEY ROW, MILKY ROCKET and GOLDEN EIGHTY were all inspected by the veterinarian after quick back-ups and were cleared to race.
 
The following weight alterations were authorised.
Race 2: T Chambers – NAUGHTY POSSUM - +1 kg – 55kg
Race 3: M Harley – CALL ME MARILYN - + .5kg – 56kg
Race 3: C Whiteley – AZURE DE LAGO - + .5kg – 54.5kg
Race 4: C Whiteley – PHOENIX FLYER - + .5kg – 54.5kg
Race 5: R Wiggins – GOLDSCHLAGER - + 1kg – 56.5kg
Race 7: T Chambers – POET’S GIRL - + 1kg – 55kg
Race 8: C Whiteley – NIKAU SPUR (NZ) - + .5kg – 54.5kg
 
Race 1: KELE PROPERTY GROUP QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden
Handicap 1100 metres
 
ANDYORSE – Fractious prior to the start and was slow to begin. Rider T Chambers was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted.
 
COBBO – Bumped upon jumping. Raced keenly through the early stages.
 
HARSH TRUTH – Impeded at the jump.
 
CRYPTESS – Jumped inwards at the start.
 
MAGGIE'S ME NAME – Jumped awkwardly and bumped with another runner shortly afterwards. Lay inwards under pressure in the home straight.
 
MOON OVER MATILDA – Bumped at the start. Over raced for the majority of the race. When questioned regarding the performance, rider J Stanley advised the filly was disappointing and he could offer no explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed signs of shin soreness and connections advised that the filly will now be sent for a let up.
 
THE REAL DIVA – Shifted outwards at the start impeding another runner. Raced wide over the early stages.
 
SANDY STORY – Hung out and raced greenly during the running.
 
 
Race 2: TAB Maiden Handicap 1500 metres
 
RUDIMENTARY – Co-trainers C and K Geran were fined $200 under AR106(2) for presenting their runner without the required tongue tie. Shifted outwards off heels near the 1100m.
 
TELMESOMETHIN’GIRL – Over raced early when looking to obtain cover. Briefly inconvenienced and carried wider near the 1100m.
 
SENSATIONABULL – Held up through the early stages of the home straight.
 
CHOOKY CHEERLEADER – When questioned regarding the performance rider J Murphy advised that his mount raced flat and never responded to his efforts.
 
NAUGHTY POSSUM – Jockey T Chambers when questioned regarding settling on the pace which was in contrast to the filly’s normal racing pattern, that the filly began well today and after settling three wide she elected to progress forward rather than risk being caught wide. She further advised that she has been riding the filly work during the week and has become more familiar with the peculiarities of NAUGHTY POSSUM and that the filly is one paced and unable to improve when settling back in the field in previous starts after tardy beginnings. Jockey T Chambers was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on seven occasions prior to the 100m, two more than permitted.
 
 
Race 3: KENNAS CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS QTIS Three-Year-Old
Maiden Handicap 1200 metres
 
THORSBY – Shifted outwards at the start impeding MISHANI PLATINUM. Inconvenienced and carried wider around the 900m turn when ANDIRON shifted out off heels. Hung and raced greenly rounding the home turn.
 
ZIPPING TOM – Trainer S Kirkwood was fined $200 under AR106(2) for presenting his runner wearing a tongue tie which was not notified. Slow to begin and then tightened for room shortly afterwards. Gave ground over the final stages. Jockey M Savva could offer no tangible explanation for the disappointing performance. Trainer S Kirkwood advised that he was expecting a forward showing and was extremely disappointed with the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
ANDIRON – Jumped away awkwardly. Over raced early and shifted outwards over heels rounding the 900m turn carrying THORSBY wider. Raced greenly in the home straight and was not persevered with over the final stages. Jockey J Murphy advised that his mount felt awkward in its action throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery.
 
AZURE DE LAGO – Jumped away awkwardly. Improved onto heels approaching the 200m and shifted ground outwards.
 
MISHANI PLATINUM – Slow to begin and hampered shortly after the start.
 
 
Race 4: GREAT NORTHERN BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1800 metres
 
KOTABHARU – J Stanley advised that after his mount began well, he initially settled closer than anticipated. Over raced early when being restrained through the early stages. Hung outwards over the final 400m.
 
TRICKY BEANS – Bumped with PHEONIX FLYER over the concluding stages. Jockey R Wiggins was fined $400 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip to his mount on seven occasions prior to the 100m, two more than permitted.
 
IMPACTFUL – Jumped away slowly.
 
MOTAMAYIZ (GB) – Jumped very awkwardly striking the rider in the face and dislodged J Murphy. J Murphy was examined by the QAS officers and stood down from riding in his next engagement.
 
PHOENIX FLYER – Bumped with TRICKY BEANS over the concluding stages.
 
HYPERION STAR (NZ) – Jumped away slowly.
 
 
Race 5:ROCKHAMPTON CUP 8 JULY Fillies and Mares BENCHMARK
70 Handicap 1300 metres
 
SPRING CREEK – Lay in over the concluding stages.
 
COSMIC GOSSIP – Bumped at the start and then slow into stride.
 
SHEPPEY – Crowded on jumping. Raced wide throughout. Bumped with MONTANA NIGHT near the 50m.
 
BOHO BEAUTY – Co-trainers T and T Edmonds were fined $200 under AR106(2) for presenting their runner without the notified cross-over noseband.
 
MONTANA NIGHT – Jumped inwards at the start crowding SHEPPEY. Was held for clear racing room in the early stages of the run home and then had to shift ground inwards near the 300m when becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of SHEPPEY. Bumped with SHEPPEY near the 50m.
 
DUCHESS ADELE – Wide through the early stages.
 
TYCOON BABY – Lay in over the concluding stages.
 
 
Race 6: KNAUF GYPSUM COUNTRY HEIST RATINGS BAND 0 - 55
Handicap 1400 metres
 
STAR OF LEON – Raced wide through the early stages and raced ungenerously when being steadied near the 1000m.
 
CRAIGLEA ETNA – Raced keenly over the early and middle stages.
 
GOLDEN EIGHTY – Jumped outwards at the start hampering WHISKEY ROW.
 
WHITE CHOCOLATE – Hampered and bumped at the start. Jockey S Apthorpe race day licence was suspended for seven days under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip to his mount on 10 occasions prior to the 100m, five more than permitted. The suspension is to commence midnight 29 June and conclude midnight 6 July 2023.
 
WHISKEY ROW – Hampered at the start.
 
MILKY ROCKET – Raced wide through the early stages.
 
 
Race 7: LATTER KENNEDY Class 6 Plate 1100 metres
 
LIEUTENANT – Raced ungenerously around the 900m turn and become awkwardly placed on heels.
 
YULONG SOVEREIGN – Jumped away awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
DEMURRAL – Slow to begin.
 
VICI – J Stanley advised that he had not intended to lead today, however after jumping well he was able to progress forward without too much pressure and obtain the lead comfortably.
 
WHOSHOTTHEMAGICIAN – Slow to begin.
 
JACK BE LUCKY – Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
KAHAYLAAN – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination behind the barriers after striking the fence on leaving the mounting enclosure and was cleared to start. Slow into stride. Held up for a clear run in the early stages of the run home before shifting ground outwards near the 300m.
 
POET'S GIRL – Raced wide throughout.
 
 
Race 8: MILNE BROS TATTERSALLS GOLD CUP OPEN Handicap
1600 metres
Prior to correct weight being declared stewards viewed the available replays to confirm all the barriers opened simultaneously. After viewing the replays stewards were satisfied that all gates opened simultaneously and correct weight was declared.
 
MASTER JAMIE – Lay outwards under pressure.
 
DEEP BREATH – Approaching the 200m laid inwards.
 
SAYL (GB) – Bound in the air at the jump and was slow to begin as a result. Raced wide for the majority.
 
INDIAN DREAMER – Slow to begin. Lay out under pressure approaching the 100m.
 
BERING SEA – Rider J Murphy was re-examined by QAS officers following an incident in race four where he was dislodged and cleared to take his remaining mount. Raced keenly through the early stages. Lay inwards throughout the home straight, with rider J Murphy reporting that he was placed at difficulty riding his mount.
 
QUALITY ASSET – Slow to begin.
 
ROVERS PEPPER – Laid inwards near the 400m and raced in restricted room.
 
 
FIGHTING COMMANDO – When questioned regarding the performance Apprentice M Kennedy advised that she was unable to offer any tangible reason below expected performance. M Kennedy was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for applying the whip to her mount on seven occasions prior to the 100m, two more than permitted.
 
NIKAU SPUR (NZ) – Co-trainers C & K Geran were fined $100 for the late rider notification of C Whiteley pursuant to LR67(1). Slow to begin.
