OUR HEART THROB – Hung in under pressure over the final 300m. REIBEY – Slow to begin. Leaving the 500m shifted out to obtain clear running and bumped with SANDY STORY, with that runner being carried wider. SIZZLING SAMURAI – Slow to begin. Rider R Wiggins advised his mount hung outwards throughout the running. Raced greenly in the home straight under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to the tongue with no other abnormalities detected. THE LAST SAGA – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority.CANNON HILL – Slow to begin. Hung in under pressure over the final 300m. KARAKAROO – Over raced in the early stages. PATTI 'N' FAY – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. DOOM DIVA – Raced wide throughout. Bumped near the 500m and was shifted wider on the track. Inclined to lay inwards thereafter when under pressure. GIVES ME CHILLS – Unable to obtain clear running over the final 150m and went to the line untested. SANDY STORY – Raced ungenerously in the early stages. JOAN'S JOY – Was declared a late scratching at 12.07pm after jockey T Chambers suffered an injury in the mounting enclosure. The following deductions applied 1 cent win and 1 cent place first place – CANNON HILL1 cent second place - OUR HEART THROB1 cent third place – PATTI ‘N’ FAYMs Chambers was stood down for the remainder of the day and advised she requires a medical clearance prior to resuming riding. Race 2: SEVEN NEWS Maiden Handicap 1300 metresYANDOOBIE – N Day replaced the injured T Chambers. Raced ungenerously in the initial stages and attempted to buck. The connections were advised the gelding was stood down from racing until it completes two satisfactory trials. BAIN – When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding rider A Butler could offer no explanation. Trainer N McCall advised she was surprised by the market support and the gelding had raced according to its trial form. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. BETTER BE LUCKY – Raced greenly and hung inwards in the home straight under pressure. MISSION TO WIN – Raced greenly under pressure. Rider M Harley reported he did not over use his whip over the final stages as he was of the view that his mount was resenting being struck with the whip.SHADOW PROJECT – Jumped awkwardly at the start and was slow to begin as a result. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. MY LITTLE VIKING – Apprentice A Jones was fined $300 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted. AZURE DE LAGO – Hampered soon after the start. Eased approaching the 1100m when trailing YANDOOBIE, which attempted to buck.Race 3: PHIL PEEL JEWELLERS BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1600 metresRECONDITE (IRE) – Slow to begin. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight. CAMPIONE – A Butler was reprimanded for using his whip on six occasions prior to the 100m one more than permitted under AR132(7)(a)(ii). STAR OF LEON – Raced wide throughout. Jockey R Wiggins reported the gelding hung out throughout the event which hindered his attempts to progress froward to a position closer to the rail. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.HYPERION STAR (NZ) – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin as a result. NAUGHTY POSSUM – A Sewell replaced the injured T Chambers. Jumped inwards at the start and was slow to begin. Race 4: ALAN JONES AO BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1050 metresCARRIBEAN KING (NZ) – Slow to begin. Lay outwards over the final stages. CHAMELEON CHOICE – When questioned regarding the performance rider R Wiggins advised the gelding tired over the final stages and would derive benefit from today’s race after returning from a spell. UNCLE FRANK – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after not having started in the preceding 12 months and was cleared to start. Slow to begin. With 300m to run shifted wider off heels to gain clear racing room. KAHAYLAAN – Raced wide through the early stages.LIEUTENANT – G Cartwright replaced T Chambers. Raced wide throughout. BLUE JACKET – Raced greenly in the early stages. Raced wide for the majority. FUTURE IDEA (NZ) – Slow to begin. Race 5: ALLENSTOWN SQUARE MEATS Class 6 Handicap 1200 metresMILO MAN – Began awkwardly. When questioned regarding the performance jockey R Wiggins advised the gelding disappointed fresh up and could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. DIVIDE THE SEA – Slow to begin. Held up for clear racing room in the early stages of the home straight. Jockey A Butler advised that racing first up for over seven months the gelding failed to travel well and proved to be disappointing. Trainer R Vale advised that he would look to undertake follow up blood tests and report any anomalies. SIDEARM – Shifted out for clear running leaving the 400m and bumped with SO YOU BATTLE. Inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages. OUR TOP SHELF – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after not having started in the preceding 12 months and was cleared to start. QUIET RIOT – Trainer J Bruce advised it was the intention to push forward from the wide draw if circumstances permitted. Ridden accordingly. Slow to jump and raced wide in the early stages. VICI – Held up for clear racing room until leaving the 400m. POET'S GIRL – G Cartwright replaced T Chambers.SABOR – Held up for clear racing room in the early stages of the home straight. SO YOU BATTLE – Fractious prior to the start. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure over the final stages. Race 6: GREAT NORTHERN BELLE OF CAPRICORNIA Fillies & Mares BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1400 metresVITAE – A Butler was fined $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on seven occasions prior to the 100m, two more than permitted. BOHO BEAUTY – Proved difficult to load. Over raced through the early stages. Rider M Harley reported that the mare made abnormal respiratory sounds during the running. An intended post-race veterinary examination was unable to be conducted prior to the horse leaving the course due to the vet being delayed with other duties. Stewards intend to follow up with connections in relation to the post-race recovery of BOHO BEAUTY and the intentions progressing forward. M Harley was reprimanded for using his whip on six occasions prior to the 100m one more than permitted pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) GHOSTED – Crowded upon jumping. Raced wide throughout. GOLDEN ATHENA – Fractious prior to the start. Slow to begin. Hung in under pressure in the home straight. DRAMMATICA – Laid in over the final stages. STARHATTAN – Slow to begin. Race 7: TAB ROCKHAMPTON NEWMARKET 1300 metresROMAN AUREUS – Held up for clear racing in the early stages of the home straight. Hung in over the final stages.BOLLENTE – Held up in the early stages of the home straight. PALLADAS – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after striking the fence while leaving the mounting enclosure and cleared to start. VINASTA – Began awkwardly. ART BY CONCORDE – Fractious prior to the start and got its leg up over the barrier partition. Underwent a veterinary examination and was declared a late scratching at 3.55pm. The connections were advised the gelding requires a veterinary clearance prior to resuming racing and a warning was placed on the barrier manners. THE STIFMEISTER – T Brooker was suspended for a period of seven days for using her whip on 17 occasions in total under AR132(5). Ms Brooker’s race day licence was suspended from midnight 16th July up to midnight 23rd July 2023. AWESOME SPIRIT – Slow to begin. TYCOON BABY – J Murphy was fined $400 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted. JUST LET IT OUT – Slow to begin. Approaching the 100m raced in restricted room when PRETTY AS shifted out under pressure and simultaneously PARAMEDIC shifted inwards under pressure.
