SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
Mackay 14 July 2023 Race 3
R Wiggins was issued with a reprimand pursuant to AR132(5) for using his whip on 15 occasions on his mount THE EIGHTH I AM.
 
GENERAL
Overweight permitted as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
 
 
Race 1: TAB QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1100 metres
 
CHUCKA DUMMY – Bumped at the start. Raced ungenerously in the early stages when being restrained. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
CRESSBROOK – Began awkwardly and bumped soon after the start.
 
MIDTHUNDER – Hampered on jumping. Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
 
KARAKAROO – Raced wide throughout.
 
CRYPTESS – Shifted out at the start impeding other runners.
 
KING ALE – Impeded at the start.
 
TORNADO TORQUE – Began awkwardly and bumped with SANDY STORY.
 
SANDY STORY – Raced wide over the early stages.
 
 
Race 2: GREAT NORTHERN Maiden Plate 1500 metres
 
HONESTYANDLOYALTY (NZ) – Bumped on jumping.
 
SUPER ROOSTER – Slow to begin. J Murphy advised his mount over raced through the early and middle stages.
 
DEAL AN ACE – Rider J Orman advised his mount hung in badly when placed under pressure over the final 500m which placed him at a significant disadvantage while riding his mount out. A post-race veterinary examination failed to disclose any abnormalities.
 
SENSATIONABULL – Fractious prior to the start. Jumped away awkwardly.
 
ATHENA'S SECRET – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
AZURE DE LAGO – Bumped at the start. Hung in under pressure over the final 400m.
 
GIVES ME CHILLS – When questioned regarding the filly leading in today’s event rider R Wiggins advised he had not intended to lead, however after beginning well from a favourable draw he received an easy lead, there was no early pace and after no other runners progressed forward he maintained the lead. Mr Wiggins was also aware there was little speed in the race on form. Trainer R Vale confirmed it was not the intention to lead as it was his preference for the filly to take a trail in suitable circumstances.
 
REBEL'S DAUGHTER – Bumped at the start.
 
 
Race 3: FAREWELL IAN MILL Maiden Handicap 1050 metres
 
BEYOND STAR (NZ) – Was subjected to a pre-race veterinary examination and cleared to race after being fractious in the float en-route to the course.
 
CURRY LEGEND – Over raced in the early stages. Raced ungenerously rounding the turn approaching the 600m.
 
VALENTINA EXPRESS – Laid in approaching the 100m and had to be straightened by its rider R Wiggins. R Wiggins was fined $500 for using his whip on six occasions prior to the 100m one more than permitted pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii).
 
SPICCATO – Rider J Stanley advised his mount hung outwards over the final stages.
 
OUR GOLD CLAIM – Refused to load and was declared a late scratching at 1.45pm with all bets placed prior to be refunded in full and the following deductions to be applied.
Winner VALENTINA EXPRESS – 0 cents win, 2 cents place
Second – BEYOND STAR – 1 cents
Third – FAY FAYE – 4 cents
 
The connections were advised the gelding was stood down until it completes a satisfactory barrier trial.
 
BREAKER BREAKER – Raced wide throughout. Apprentice A Donald was fined $300 for using her whip on six occasions prior to the 100m one more than permitted under AR132(7)(a)(ii).
 
MADANCER – Rider J Taylor dropped his whip near the 300m.
 
 
Race 4: CHAS JONES MEMORIAL QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden
Handicap 1200 metres
 
Correct weight was delayed allowing J Orman the rider of the second placed STAR PRINCE to view the official photo. After viewing the photo correct weight was declared on the judges official placings.
 
REIBEY – Jumped inwards at the start hampering SIZZLING SAMURAI. Held up for clear racing room until approaching the 500m and shifted wider on the track to obtain clear running.
 
SIZZLING SAMURAI – Over raced noticeably during the middle stages. Hung inwards over the final stages bumping with THE LAST SAGA.
 
STAR PRINCE – Held up for clear racing room until leaving the 500m and when shifting outwards bumped with ANNIE’S TOP. Hung in under pressure over the final 300m. J Orman was reprimanded for using his whip on six occasions prior to the 100m one more than permitted under AR132(7)(a)(ii).
 
THE COMPANY – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight when being ridden out.
 
THE LAST SAGA – Over raced and hung out for some distance approaching the 800m.   Held up for clear racing room until leaving the 300m. Bumped by SIZZLING SAMURAI immediately prior to the finish.
 
RUBY SPARKLES – J Stanley advised he became awkwardly placed near the running rail over the final stages and could not fully test his mount close to the finish.
 
DOOM DIVA – Raced wide early stages.
 
ANNIE'S TOP – Bumped at the start. Bumped approaching the 500m by STAR PRINCE which shifted outwards.
 
JOAN'S JOY – Raced wide throughout.
 
 
Race 5: MP SECURITY BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1600 metres
 
GRAND DE LAGO – Over raced during the early stages.
 
TERRIUS – Briefly hampered by NASHA which shifted ground inwards near the 400m and become unbalanced brushing the running rail.
 
DOLLAR DOLLAR (NZ) – Slow to begin. Over raced in the early stages.
 
DIASONIC – Raced wider on the track when NASHA, which was over racing, shifted out off heels approaching the 1200m.
 
UNDER THE CAP – Laid in under pressure over the final 300m.
 
SHADOW GODDESS – Slow to begin. Held up for clear racing room in the early stages of the home straight.
 
NASHA – Over raced in the early stages. Rider J Stanley reported the mare raced greenly over the final 400m.
 
 
Race 6: DIAGEO Class 6 Handicap 1300 metres
 
TRICOLOGY (NZ) – Underwent a pre-race vet check and was cleared to race after striking the gate while leaving the mounting enclosure. Over raced in the early stages. Held up for racing room until the 300m.

DIVIDE THE SEA – Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding rider R Wiggins advised DIVIDE THE SEA did not feel comfortable during the running and failed to let down when placed under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg. The connections were advised the gelding requires a veterinary clearance prior to resuming racing.

FIGHTING COMMANDO – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils. Trainer R Vale was advised FIGHTING COMMANDO was stood down under 79(4) and was stood down for 3 months and undergo a satisfactory 1000m gallop in the presence of Stewards.

MEDIA EMPIRE – Raced wide in the early stages and raced keenly. 
 
SANTORINI SUMMER – Fraction slow to begin.
 
 
Race 7: REES R & SYDNEY JONES Class 3 Plate 1050 metres
 
BOLD HUNTER – Jumped away awkwardly and was slow to begin. A veterinary examination confirmed the gelding bled from both nostrils and the connections were advised BOLD HUNTER was stood down for three months and is required to complete a satisfactory 1000m gallop in the presence of the Stewards.
 
IT'S GERRY – Laid inwards in the home straight. When questioned regarding the improved performance of the gelding trainer T Smith advised it had worked hard over the early stages in its previous start and tired over the later stages. He further stated in today’s event IT’S GERRY derived benefit from its first up run and was able to obtain the lead without being pressured.
 
PARAMEDIC (NZ) – Began awkwardly and brushed the outside barrier partition. When questioned regarding the performance rider J Orman advised the gelding disappointed after hanging inwards during the running most noticeably over the final 200m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery.

SWEET WAY'S – Raced wide throughout.
 
 
Race 8: WADE HUNT IT BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1300 metres
 
FUTURE IDEA (NZ) – Slow to begin. Apprentice A Donald was fined $300 for using her whip on six occasions prior to the 100m one more than permitted pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii). A post -race veterinary examination failed to disclose any abnormalities.
 
ASHIKO BAY – Jumped away awkwardly and as a result was slow to begin. Cast a Rider Justin Stanley advised that he restrained from the wide barrier and his mount then over raced. The rider further added that his mount struggled to run on over the concluding stages after switching wide entering the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination failed to disclose any abnormalities.

DOOTHAKARMICHAEL – Rider R Wiggins advised his mount yielded ground over the final stages after racing prominently, and he anticipated the gelding would gain benefit from today’s run and racing over further distance.

SHADOW PROJECT – Held up for clear racing room until near the 400m.
 
ASTRAL ODYSSEY – Raced wide throughout.
 
GILBERT'S GOLD – Reluctant to load causing a delay to the start. Raced ungenerously for a considerable distance and became awkwardly placed on heels near the 800m and made the turn awkwardly.

MERIDA'S BOW – Apprentice J Doolan was fined $200 for returning to scale in excess of 0.5kg over MERIDA’S BOW carded weight pursuant to AR211(1)
 
STRUAN LAD – Slow to begin. Held up for clear racing room until near the 400m.
 
SWEET FANTASY – Slow to begin.
