QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT ROCKHAMPTON JOCKEY CLUB ROCKHAMPTON – TUESDAY 29 AUGUST 2023 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Good 4 RAIL + 8m entire PENETROMETER – 5.2 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – S LarkinsStewards – E Suli, S Coulthard, S Stehbens (Cadet)Clerk of Scales – G Wust Judge – S Bryant Veterinarian – S OlsenSwab Attendants – E Burgess Starter – T Williams SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT Bluff Race 5 JELLINBAH MINE BLUFF CUP BENCHMARK 60 Handicap – Trainer G Bell advised stewards that the following day after the event, a veterinary examination of DAWSON DIMOND revealed the mare to have bowed its offside tendon. She now advises that the mare is going to become a brood mare. GENERAL Overweights accepted by the stewards:Race 1 – A Layt – +1kgRace 2 – R Wiggins – +1kg Race 6 – R Wiggins – +0.5kg Race 1: GREAT NORTHERN MAIDEN HANDICAP 1500 M BRAND NEW (NZ) – Shifted out under pressure over the last 300m. THE EIGHTH I AM – Began awkwardly. Hung out noticeably under pressure when looking to be shifted wider and as a result near the 150m hung in across the heels of BRAND NEW (NZ) when that runner shifted out. After inquiring into the incident stewards took into account the evidence provided by both J Stanley (BRAND NEW(NZ)) and R Wiggins (THE EIGHTH I AM) and could not be satisfied that the actions of either rider required action being taken, as such a warning was placed against the racing manners of THE EIGHTH I AM for hanging in. REGAL FIELD – Stood flat footed and was slow to begin. Slow to muster speed. STELLA REACH – Raced three wide in the early stages. SUPER ROOSTER – Slow to begin. Race 2: TAB CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1050 M Prior to correct weight stewards considered a protest by second placed rider A Layt (RUBUNKAR) against the winner (FAY FAYE) J Taylor alleging inference over the final 150m. After viewing the available replays, considering the riders statements and submissions from the respective trainers, it was established that in the early stages of the home straight RUBUNKAR attempted to improve into a tight run to the inside of FAY FAYE and rider A Layt persisted with his attempt, which resulted in RUBUNKAR contacting the hindquarter of FAY FAYE near the 100m resulting in that runner becoming unbalanced. The stewards were satisfied that any interference that occurred was caused by RUBUNKAR improving tightly to the inside of FAY FAYE so therefore the protest was dismissed, and correct weight was declared on the judge’s numbers. RUBUNKAR – Jockey A Layt was reminded of his obligations when taking a tight run so as not to impede the progress of his own mount or that of other runners. INCLUSION – Slow to begin.
