STEWARDS REPORT ROCKHAMPTON JOCKEY CLUB TUESDAY 9TH JANUARY 2024 WEATHER – FINETRACK RATING – GOOD (4)RAIL – Out 6M+PENETROMETER – 5.53 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – T. HudsonStewards – S. Williams GENERAL Upon arrival at the track, Stewards upgraded the track from a Soft (5) to a Good (4). Stewards accepted the reasons from trainer J Lancaster regarding the late declaration of the rider for MY GIRL SPIRIT. Race 1: CAPRICORNIA YEARLING SALE ENTRIES OPEN QTIS TWO-YEARS-OLD MDN HCP - 1050M The start was delayed by approximately 2 minutes when TELEKI underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after rearing over when being loaded into the barriers and was cleared to start. The attending veterinary officer after witnessing the incident from close proximity, was satisfied the horse had landed on its right-hand rump area and had not struck its head and further after trotting TELEKI out was satisfied that the gelding took no ill effect from the fall. Trainer G Green was advised that a warning has now been placed on the loading manners of the gelding. FABULOUS HOFFA – Bumped at the start. Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight. TELEKI – Jumped outwards at the start. When questioned regarding the performance jockey L Tilley stated that the gelding failed to travel well in the run and did not respond to his riding efforts. Trainer G Green advised that it is the intention to send TELEKI for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer G Green undertook to report back to stewards in relation to the gelding’s recovery. BEATS FLOWERS – Bumped on jumping and then raced three wide throughout. THAT'S INTERESTING – Bumped at the start. Was detained on course for approximately 2 hours for post-race blood sampling. BUTTINSKY – Jumped inwards at the start bumping FABULOUS HOFFA. Race 2: GREAT NORTHERN BM70 HCP - 1050M JUST SUPER – Slow to begin. THISLAND IS MYLAND – Began awkwardly. Over raced when being restrained in the early stages. Near the 600m restrained off the heels of AFROGINASOCK. Held up for clear running until approaching the 200m. POET'S GIRL – Jockey T. Chambers was fined $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip 6 times prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted. CLASS OF ROYALTY – Raced three wide throughout. WHOSHOTTHEMAGICIAN – Held up for clear running in the early part of the home straight. BEST SONG – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running in the early part of the home straight. AFROGINASOCK – Restrained off the heels of JUST SUPER near the 700m. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Race 3: MARK BUNT MENSWEAR QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MDN HCP - 1050M SHOOTINGOFFTHEHAND – Jumped in the air at the start and raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery. Stewards intend to follow up the condition of gelding with trainer D Whyte in the following days. DOUBTING EYE – Raced wide with cover throughout. Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the home straight before gaining clear room near the 350m. HOT POTATO – Raced wide throughout with cover. LADY CONSORT – Began awkwardly and contacted the inside barrier partition. Apprentice S Wilcock advised that rounding the turn near the 600m her mount raced very greenly and shifted ground when racing to the inside of DIVINE SIENNA and as a result she elected to take hold of the filly to balance around the turn. SPOT ON SOPHIA – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin. Near the 200m had to shift in and away from the heels of SHOOTINGOFFTHEHAND, which laid in under pressure. STEAMING SUN – Fractious in the barriers. Bumped on jumping. Raced wide throughout. BALLETTO – Raced wide throughout. TEN QUIDD – Jockey L Tilley advised that racing into the first turn his mount overreacted when being restrained to obtain cover on the rail and as a result lost some momentum. The rider further stated that his mount raced greenly throughout and he has recommended to connections to remove the blinkers for the filly’s next start. STREET GOD – Buffeted on jumping. Race 4: TAB MAIDEN HCP - 1300M MASTER RICH – Raced wide early. SPOT THE DOT – Bumped at the start. Near the 1000m was placed in restricted room and raced ungenerously when being restrained. DIVIDER – C Whiteley was the approved late rider replacement for R Wiggins (overweight). R Wiggins was fined $300 under AR190(3) for taking a ride for which he was found to be overweight. Raced wide throughout. MR GREY – Jockey W Satherley reported he struck his left hip on the barrier partition. The rider was examined by QAS officers and clear to take his remaining mounts. DIVINE HUNTER – Bumped at the start. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight resulting in apprentice B Johnson having to stop riding and straighten her mount on several occasions. Cast off hind shoe in running. FLAMENCO ROSE – Slow into stride. BLUE WHISKEY – Bumped at the start. SWEET CATENA – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination behind the barriers after contacting the mounting yard fence when proceeding to the start and was cleared to start. Bumped at the start. Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Jockey T Chambers was fined $200 under AR211 for returning to scale one kilogram overweight. In assessing penalty stewards considered the penalty guidelines, the rider’s guilty plea and clear record of more than 12 months. Race 5: PHIL PEEL JEWELLER QTIS BM60 HCP - 1400M BUNGARRIBEE LAD – Inclined to hang out under pressure in the home straight. POET'S DAY – Commenced to over race approaching the 1200m and had to be restrained off the heels of BUNGARRIBEE LAD. Continued to over race until nearing the 800m. EYE PEE OH READY – Slipped noticeably on jumping. Raced wide early when being restrained. ENTERPRISE SUCCESS – Slow to begin. NATIVE BEE – Tired noticeably over the final 200m. Jockey L. Tilley reported that after beginning awkwardly his mount failed to travel well throughout and believed something may be amiss with the gelding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer D Rideout advised that the gelding would now likely be spelled. STREET GLORY – Hung in under pressure in the home straight. BOLD SPLENDOR – Began very awkwardly and struck the inside barrier partition. KAMARCHER – Jockey B. Appo advised approaching the 600m turn his mount commenced to hang out badly and as a result raced extremely wide thereafter. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer Z Hohn was advised that KAMARCHER must trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again. Race 6: GRANT & SIMPSON 0 - 55 HANDICAP - 1200M The start was delayed due to MATERIAL MISTRESS being declared a late scratching on veterinary advice. SEISME – Fractious in the barrier. Began awkwardly. ALEACO – Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight and approaching the 150m eased across the heels of LOVE MY LOUIS to gain clear running. OBLIQUITY – Slow to begin and contacted the outside barrier partition. Jockey J Stanley advised that after beginning slowly the gelding settled further back than anticipated and then endured no luck obtaining clear racing room over the concluding stages and was unable to fully test his mount in the final stages. CHILL OUT MISS – Held up for clear running from the home turn until near the 100m mark. CRAIGLEA ETNA – Slow to begin and hampered shortly after the start. Near the 900m had to be restrained from the heels of WINDSONG. Held up for clear running around the home turn. LOVE MY LOUIS – Began awkwardly. WINDSONG – Jumped awkwardly and shifted inwards bumping CRAIGLEA ETNA. Over raced in the early stages and near the 900m had to be restrained to avoid the heels of MISS RINEHART. MISS RINEHART – Raced wide in the early stages. MATERIAL MISTRESS – Declared a late scratching at the barrier 4:42pm on veterinary advice after lashing out and striking itself behind the barriers and noticeable blood being present in the right hind stifle area. Prior to correct weight all bets on MATERIAL MISTRESS were ordered to be refunded in full and the following deductions to apply; All bets on the winner be paid less two cents for the win and less four cents the place, bets on second place be paid less two cents and third place paid less five cents. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the wound only required minor treatment and no veterinary stand down was issued. MY GIRL SPIRIT – Thew its head in the air on jumping. Raced wide early.
