SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
 
ROCKHAMPTON - 9/1/24 RACE 1 QTIS MDN HCP - 1050M
 
TELEKI - Trainer G Green reported to stewards that the gelding had pulled up well, showing no signs of any injury and had consistently eaten up everyday since the run. Mr Green further reiterated his intention to spell the gelding.
 
EYE PEE OH READY – Trainer R Vale reported that he had taken blood from EYE PEE OH READY which indicated that the gelding was suffering from a virus. He added that he had now sent the gelding for a spell and would report back to Stewards’ on the condition of EYE PEE OH READY if anything else becomes apparent.
 
GENERAL
 
As J Huxtable, J Stanley, A Sewell & (a) S Wilcock were all onboard a delayed flight, they were unable to make their commitments in Races 1 and 2 and replacements were approved as per raceday summary.
 
As (a) T Fenlon was dual engaged on a starter as well as third emergency which gained a start and there were no other apprentices to replace her, A Layt was approved to replace (a) T Fenlon as the rider. A Layt was also approved to ride MISHANI MYSTIQUE 0.5kg over it’s allotted weight.
 
As T Chambers was unable to make the weight on CRAIGLEA ETNA and MISHANI MAVERICK, replacements were made as per raceday summary. At a subsequent inquiry, T Chambers pled guilty to a charge under AR190(3) and was reprimanded. When assessing penalty, stewards were mindful of her record, guilty plea, cooperation with the inquiry and the personal circumstances involved with this particular incident.
 
 
Race 1: GREAT NORTHERN MAIDEN PLATE         1500M
 
SOFTEN IT UP – Laid in under pressure down the home straight. 
 
TWENTY THREE WALL – Fractious in barrier prior to the start. Slow to begin. Steadied near the 1100m to avoid heels of ROY’S ROAD.
 
DIVIDER – Near the 1100 commence to overrace and shifted in contacted the running rail losing ground noticeably. Shortly after this, DIVIDER continued to over race for some distance before settling. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted today, Apprentice Johnson confirmed that her intentions were to be forward as DIVIDER has drawn poorly on multiple occasions in this preparation and with the better barrier draw in today’s event, she was to make use of this. She added that with the step up in distance, the addition of blinkers, the lack of speed in the race and a light weight DIVIDER was asked to carry today after her claim, were all in favour of the mare taking up a leading position. Stewards accepted the comments. Apprentice jockey B. Johnson was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for her use of whip 7 times prior to the 100m, 2 more than permitted.
 
FLAMENCO ROSE – Raced wide throughout.
 
HERO OF THE PACK – Jumped awkwardly. Near the 450m had to be steadied after being disappointed for a run between BLUE WHISKEY and TWENTY THREE WALL when those runners both shifted ground marginally. Leaving the 400m had to steady after becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of BLUE WHISKEY when that runner shifted out abruptly under riding. At a subsequent inquiry Jockey C. Mclver pled guilty to a charge under AR131(a) and his license was suspended for 7 days to commence at midnight 16th January and to expire on midnight 23rd January. Jockey McIver was advised of his rights to an appeal.
 
ROY'S ROAD – Near the 1100m had to be steadied to avoid the heels of DIVIDER.
 
BLUE WHISKEY – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
Race 2: TAB CLASS 3 PLATE     1200M
 
RUBUNKAR – Raced wide in the early stages until obtaining the lead near the 900m.
 
TIOGA PASS – Jockey B. Appo was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for his use of whip 6 times prior to the 100m,1 more than permitted.
 
CHILL OUT MISS – Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination, requested by the trainer K Sinclair, revealed no abnormalities.
 
CRAIGLEA ETNA – Slow to begin.
 
LYNRIC LASS – Slow to begin.
 
MISHANI TULIP – Slow to begin.
 
Race 3: CQ BUILDING CERTIFICATION OPEN HANDICAP         1400M
 
FIGHTING COMMANDO – Lost nearside hind shoe in running.
 
SHAMEDY – Commenced to overrace and had to be restrained and shift off the heels FIGHTING COMMANDO near the 1100m.
 
TYCOON BABY – Laid out under pressure down the home straight.
 
PANKHURST (NZ) – Slow to begin.
 
Race 4: CAPRICORNIA YEARLING ENTRIES CLOSE 31 JAN BM55 HANDICAP    1050M
 
FIGHT IN THE DOG – Jumped awkwardly contacting the barrier partition. Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. Jockey T. Chambers was fined $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for her use of whip 7 times prior to the 100m, 2 more than permitted.
 
VALTINO – Held up for clear running from the 600m before obtaining clear running near the 350m.
 
RUSSIAN RUBLE – Slow to begin.
 
DESERT MOON – Raced wide throughout. Knuckled near the 250m.
 
AIRIT – Reared on jumping then knuckled shortly after. When questioned on the performance, apprentice B Johnson stated that her instructions were to be positive and obtain a position closer to the speed, however after beginning poorly, she was forced to race in a more rearward position. She added that her mount proved difficult to ride throughout and in particular, the home straight where AIRIT hung in on several occasions and had to be straightened which in her opinion, ruined her momentum at vital stages of the event. Apprentice Johnson further added that in the circumstances she was pleased with the efforts of AIRIT. Trainer C Taylor will be contacted regarding the performance of AIRIT in the days subsequent. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
AFROGINASOCK – Slow to begin.
 
WINDSONG – After beginning well and noticed that other runners hadn’t showed any urgency to lead, Jockey C Whiteley elected to make use of this and obtain a leading position shortly after the start rather than race in a wide position.
 
MATERIAL MISTRESS – Raced wide throughout.
 
Race 5: JAIME PARNELL PSYCHOLOGY BM65 HANDICAP         1600M
 
ACROPHOBIC – When regarding the disappointing performance apprentice S. Wilcock stated that her mount travelled well in the early stages, however upon straightening the gelding failed to respond to her riding and was very disappointing in its finishing efforts. Wilcock further added that she believed ACROPHOBIC would benefit from racing in a position where the gelding is able to obtain cover. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stewards intend to speak to trainer J McConachy in the days subsequent regarding the performance.
 
LEICA BITA FUN – Bumped on jumping, bumped again shortly with PARAMEDIC.
 
PARAMEDIC (NZ) – Bumped on jumping and then taken in after being bumped heavily shortly after by LEICA BITA FUN again.
 
Race 6: ELITE IMAGING GROUP QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD HANDICAP     1100M
 
Correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey J. Stanley to view the footage to ascertain whether there were grounds for a protest. After viewing the available films, J Stanley elected not to protest and correct weight was declared.
 
BUSH DIAMOND – Had difficulty obtaining clear running up until a point near the 200m.  
 
MISHANI MAVERICK – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
TAHKIAN BUBBLES – Approaching the 700m had to be momentarily steadied when taking a narrow run between the rail and DECRYPTING GOLD.
 
MISHANI MYSTIQUE – Raced wide throughout.
 
HARCH ROAD – Laid in and bumped with DECRYPTING GOLD on several occasions near the 1000m when racing tight with that runner.
 
DECRYPTING GOLD – Near the 1000m taken in and bumped on several occasions by HARCH ROAD who was racing tight to his outside. Steadied and taken in marginally when rounding the home turn by HARCH ROAD.
 
DESERT KOBY – Knuckled on jumping. Leaving the 500m shifted out slightly bumping DRAGON SNIP taking that runner wider.
 
MISHANI LIGHT – Slow to begin and muster speed. Tailed off from the rest of the field shortly after the start and was uncompetitive throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer J. Manzelmann was advised that a warning would now be placed on the gelding’s record.
 
DRAGON'S SNIP – Leaving the 500m bumped and taken wider by DESERT KOBY. Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
