STEWARDS REPORT ROCKHAMPTON JOCKEY CLUB THURSDAY 25 JANUARY 2024 WEATHER – OVERCASTTRACK RATING – GOOD (3)RAIL – +8MPENETROMETER – 4.61 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – T. HudsonStewards – S. Williams SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT – TOM SMITH – 23RD JANUARY 2024 Stewards concluded an inquiry following a stable inspection at licensed trainer Tom Smiths’ stables, after it was discovered that Mr. Smith had a prescription medication namely X-SEDAN which was not labelled in accordance to the relative state regulation. Mr. Smith subsequently pleaded guilty to a charge under AR252(1) in which he did have in his possession a prescription medication which was not labelled in accordance to the Queensland Medicines and Poisons (Medicines) Regulation 2021. When considering appropriate penalty stewards took into account Mr. Smiths guilty plea and cooperation throughout the inquiry as well as his unblemished record in relation to this rule, however stewards were mindful that this penalty must serve as a specific and general deterrent not only for Mr. Smith but also for the racing industry as a whole. Mr. Smith was subsequently fined a sum of $300. Mr. Smith was advised to his rights to an appeal. ROCKHAMPTON – 16TH JANUARY - JAIME PARNELL PSYCHOLOGY BM65 HCP ACROPHIC - Trainer J. McConachy reported to stewards that after the disappointing performance and the significant preparation, the gelding would now be sent for a spell. GENERAL Due to the abandonment of Emerald on the 23rd of January, several races were added to the program at Rockhampton on the morning of acceptances. Due to this, multiple late riders were submitted as trainers only had short notice of the changes to today’s program and as a result, all late riding declarations were accepted. As Adrian Layt was unable to attend the meeting due to the impending cyclone in the Townsville region, change were permitted as per raceday summary. Upon arriving at the track, stewards upgraded the track to a Good (3). Stewards were made aware of a trackwork incident involving apprentice Gemma Hogg at Emerald this morning via her master Trainer G Bell. Apprentice Hogg was advised that she would require a medical and a cog test prior to performing any duties. Race 1: CAPRICORNIA YEARLING ENTRIES CLOSING 31 JANUARY QTIS 2YO MDN HCP - 1050M BEEARETEE – Reared in the barriers and got it’s right foreleg caught over a partition. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 12:24pm. Trainer G. Green was advised that the colt requires a vet certificate and would need to obtain a further barrier certificate via an official trial prior to its next start.On the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered all bets on BEEARETEE to be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply: 0 cents for the win bets (CRYPTOSTAR)3 cents for place bets (CRYPTOSTAR)3 cents for place bets (WELL HELD) WELL HELD – Began awkwardly. FABULOUS HOFFA – Raced keenly throughout. BUTTINSKY – Unable to muster any speed and tailed off from the rest of the field from the early stages and was subsequently beaten 37 lengths. Jockey C. Whiteley reported that the filly failed to let down and may not have appreciated the firm surface. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer P. Fleming advised stewards that the filly is now going for a spell and also attributed the performance to the firm surface today. In the circumstances, a warning was placed on BUTTINSKY’s competitiveness. TRAVELLING SWEET – Raced greenly throughout and in particular the home straight. Race 2: TAB OPEN HCP – 1200M The start of the race was delayed due to TA CHANSON having to be resaddled behind the barriers. MONTENEGRO MAN – Began awkwardly and raced wide in the early stages. POET’S GIRL – Raced wide in the early and middle stages. CLASS OF ROYALTY – Steadied and made contact with TA CHANSON when tightened for room approaching the 900m. Held up for clear running until approaching the 300m. WHOSHOTTHEMAGICIAN – Apprentice B. Johnson pled guilty to a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip 7 times prior to the 100m, 2 more than permitted and was fined $300m.TA CHANSON – Underwent a resaddle behind the barriers prior to the start. Laid out under pressure down the home straight. Approaching the 900m was tightened and raced in restricted room then had to be checked when WHOSHOTTHEMAGICIAN shifted in when insufficiently clear. At a subsequent inquiry, apprentice Johnson pled guilty to a charge under AR131(a) and her license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 13 days to commence midnight the 3rd of February to midnight 17th of February. Race 3: VALE JACKO LOUGHNAN QTIS 3YO MDN HCP - 1200M JUST BINGO – Began awkwardly and contacted the inside barrier partition. Taken wider near the 200m. FRESH POWDER – Made the turn awkwardly at the 900m. Put in an awkward stride when shifting off the heels of STREET GOD. Held up for clear running in the early part of the home straight. Jockey B. Appo reported that although the gelding raced greenly throughout he was satisfied with the efforts that FRESH POWDER displayed. STREET GOD – Had difficulty obtaining clear running until the 250m. Jockey J. Stanley was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip 6 times prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted. QUARTERSHARE – Underwent a resaddle behind the barriers prior to the start. Raced wide in the early stages. Over raced throughout the event placing rider J Huxtable at a disadvantage for the majority of the event. SPOT ON SOPHIA – Slow to begin. Held up for clear racing room until switching wider approaching the 300m. FLYING MAPLE – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Shifted ground outwards under pressure down the home straight. CERARED – Knuckled shortly after jumping. Laid in noticeably under pressure over the final 300m. Hung in under pressure down the home straight and near the 200m had to be eased off the heels of JERIDAH. Race 4: THE AGENCY C1 HCP - 1050M AIRIT – Over raced in the early and middle stages. EL OF A SENORITA – Soon after the start was briefly tightened between THE LAST SAGA which shifted out and AIRIT which shifted in. Apprentice B. Johnson pled guilty to a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip 6 times prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted and was fined $300m. BICEPS – Fractious in the barrier and as a result slow to begin. Raced ungenerously in the early stages when restrained. ICE SKATER – Jumped away awkwardly and was slow to begin. ROWBOSITI – Jumped away awkwardly and was slow to begin. WINDSONG – Laid in over the concluding stages. When questioned regarding the improved performance, Trainer J. Lewis stated that although WINDSONG had officially finished at the tail of the field last start, the mare was only beaten 3L and he wasn’t overly disappointed with the performance. He added that he was expecting a good performance from WINDSONG and further added that the mare was strongly aided by jockey C Whiteley’s ride and decision making. Trainer Lewis further stated that he would also continue to have WINDSONG ridden in a prominent position as he was satisfied with the efforts produced over the last two runs in this position. Race 5: GREAT NORTHERN BM65 HCP – 1400M TYCOON BABY – Jumped awkwardly. Apprentice S. Wilcock reported that her intentions were to race in a forward position however after beginning poorly and noticing that other runners had quickly showed more pace to her outside, she was unable to take up this position and instead rode for luck in rearward position. Apprentice S. Wilcock further stated she was nonetheless satisfied with how TYCOON BABY finished the race off. CANNY BE BETTER – Raced wide early and over raced in the middle stages. SRINI – Began awkwardly. Held up for clear racing room until near the 300m. LOVE MY LOUIS – Over raced in the early and middle stages. LYNRIC LASS – Knuckled shortly after the start. Raced wide until obtained position outside the leader near the 900m. MY GIRL SPIRIT – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after the veterinarian identified the presence of blood in the mouth and was subsequently cleared to race. Threw its head at the start. Held up for clear racing room in the early part of the home straight. Race 6: ST PATRICK'S DAY RACES 16 MARCH BM50 HCP - 1600M VANA STAR – Apprentice B. Johnson pled guilty to a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip 8 times prior to the 100m, 3 more than permitted and was fined $300m. Stewards also inquired into the actions of apprentice B Johnson over the concluding stages and in particular, her failure to ride VANA STAR out to the finish. After assessing the incident, stewards couldn’t be comfortably satisfied that her actions had cost VANA STAR second place and took the matter no further, however reminded apprentice Johnson her obligations in relation to riding her mounts out. LENNY ROCKET – When questioned regarding the performance, Jockey A. Butler reported that his mount had initially travelled well in the early stages but soon commenced to hang out. Butler then stated that LENNY ROCKET then continued to attempt to hang out but was unable to do so due to the firm hold that he had to place the gelding under. Butler further stated that due to this hold, he was then unable to urge LENNY ROCKET into the race as the gelding was more focused on attempting to hang rather then place itself into the race. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Stewards intend to speak to Trainer J Manzelmann regarding LENNY ROCKET in the coming days. YUBETIDO – Held up for clear running until approaching 300m. MALIBU EDITION – Underwent a resaddle behind the barriers prior to the start. ROY’S ROAD – Pulled hard in the early stages. WINTILLY – Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the performance, trainers representative stated that they were disappointed in today’s run and that WINTILLY had pulled up with no abnormalities following the event. The trainers’ representative also stated that it would now be the intention to move on WINTILLY from their stables. Race 7: DYNAMIC ELECTRICAL AND REFRIGERATION C3 PLT – 1050M BOLD HUNTER – Over raced in the early stages and had to be restrained from heels of several occasions. I LOVE THIS HIPPY – Raced three wide in the early stages before obtaining a position outside the lead near the 700m. UNCLE FRANK – Raced wide early. FAY FAYE – Tightened for racing room shortly after the start between MISHANI MYSTIQUE when shifted out and when QUEENSLANDER shifted in. Raced three wide in the early stages. MARTINI MOMENT – Near the 700m lost ground when laid in whilst overracing and racing tight between multiple runners. Race 8: LJ HOOKER ROCKHAMPTON MDN HCP - 1050M PEAKING TOM – Raced very greenly throughout and in particular in the home straight where the gelding shifted ground on a number of occasions. RAPID INSTINCT – Raced wide throughout. DIVINE SIENNA – Laid in over the concluding stages. JEANNE DE LUZ – Over raced in the middle stages. Carried wider racing towards the first turn, when PEAKING TOM shifted outwards first turn. KAISA – Slow into stride. DIVINE KAMEHALANI – Carried extremely wide racing towards the first turn when PEAKING TOM shifted outwards. Pulled hard in the early and middle stages. Bumped on several occasions with ANDIRON when that runner attempted a narrow gap to its inside near the 150m. STEAMING SUN – Began awkwardly at the start. ANDIRON – Held up for clear running until approaching the 300m. When attempting a narrow run near the 150m bumped on several occasions with DIVINE KAMEHALANI and LADY CONSORT. TAKERU – Began awkwardly. When questioned on the performance of TAKERU after the gelding had spent a significant period of time away from racing, trainer L Birchley stated that TAKERU had taken an extended spell from racing as he was of the opinion the gelding needed to mature and grow. He added that TAKERU was aided by two official barrier trials and a number of unofficial jumpouts and after assessing the race after acceptances, was confident of a forward showing from the gelding. Mr Birchley also stated that he had informed the owners of his confidence with the geldings’ chances and was of the belief that they had supported TAKERU. He further added that TAKERU was aided heavily by jockey R Wiggins ride and would expect to see TAKERU continue to be competitive when going through his grades. Race 9: CUB BM55 HCP - 1200M ENTERPRISE PHOENIX – Blundered at the start. MAVERICK HENERY – Raced three wide throughout. LANOVA – Declared a late scratching at 2.59pm after a pre-race veterinary examination revealed grazings and a hematoma on the hip due to an incident in the float en route to the course. Trainer D. Rideout was advised that LANOVA would require a veterinary certificate prior to its next start. As betting had not commenced on the event, deductions were not applicable. NOUVERRE FILLE – Near the 200m had to be steadied when DESERT MOON shifted in under riding. At a subsequent inquiry Jockey J Huxtable (DESERT MOON) was reprimanded under AR131(a) for this incident. OBLIQUITY – When questioned on the performance Jockey J. Stanley reported that he was very disappointed with the performance of OBLIQUITY throughout the event. He stated that his mount was slowly away, never travelled and felt awkward in its action over the concluding stages. Trainer C Taylor concurred with the comments made by jockey Stanley and undertook to report back to stewards on the condition and immediate plans of OBLIQUITY. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. KAMARCHER – Tightened and checked soon after the start when STREET GLORY shifted out and ENTERPRISE PHOENIX shifted inwards. MISS RINEHART – Overraced in the early stages. READY TO GROOVE – Shifted out abruptly approaching the 200m before being immediately corrected by the rider.
